View Full Version : GBL (and probably most other GHB analoges) Storage Issues

So I just got a phone call from a very upset/scared freind that is worried because he consumed probably a good amount of dissolved plastic and lost the bulk of his nice amount of GBL. The problem was that he had this GBL stored in a plastic container, he didn't know that GBL will actually eat through most plastics (probably all other than high-density polyethylene) until he noticed that his container had a suspicous, softish buldge protruding from one side. He is really paranoid because he consumed, and shared, a fair amount of this stuff and it obviously has dissolved plastic matter in it. I told him that it's really probably nothing to worry about, I myself had a few doses out of that batch and I'm not concerned, but from now on he should use only HDPE grade 1 plastic containers or preferrably glass. Just thought that I would pass the warning onto others that may make the same mistake. I am assuming that the same holds true with most of the GHB analoges; I know for a fact that 1,4-butanediol does, one time I accidentally dripped alittle bit of that stuff in transfer on my tabletop and the plastic bag that it touched withered almost instantly, also smeared the finish. My freind said that he has stored GHB in plastic containers before without having any problems at all, I wouldn't know (I use glass for everything), but I would assume that when it comes to the GHB analoges that the best containers for them all are glass and if you must use plastics make sure that they are HDPE.

good refresher, chem. I kinda live in the sticks so we store water just in case. I did some digging online and "they" say you cant store even WATER in a plastic milk container due to it's high biodegradability. Fucking WATER. So I believe the GHB analogs. always store things with questionable reactivity in GLASS. good thread, chem.

Holly shit !! That's good info. I am currious though, you don't happen to know why it has that affect on plastic and not on like your tounge? (without getting super technical, I'm just currious as can be but dumb as an ox)

I know your question was to chem dv so I apologize in advance. but check this out: I worked in the med field for many years. I would wear latex gloves on a daily basis (enough about my sex life)

the chems i would encounter at work would react to my latex gloves. changing them into an amber color. someone walked by when I was looking at the color change and said "that color change is from them turning from latex to rubber." sorry off topic.

That does sound like some dangerous shit if it melts plastic. Would Nalgene containers work? They seem to be pretty solid.

How close to GHB is GBL in terms of effects/side effects? I tried GHB a few times in college and enjoyed it, especially the fact that there was virtually no hangover effect.

Wow warm i never thought of that ..But i also have to wear gloves off and on every day at work and i notice alot of time the tips of the fingers and palms change diffrent colors

Why it melts plastics? That's just the way it reacts with it, starts to break it down. I know for awhile that GBL was being sold as a paint stripper (at like $200 for 500ml that's some fucking paint stripper... they knew what they were selling). Anyways, it's just kinda corrosive like that, doesn't necessarily mean that it's dangerous to ingest because of that. Our stomachs are full of an acid that is corrosive, it's not uncommon to add things like HCL acid to things to adjust pH of something before consuming it. I wouldn't just do a shot of the stuff, probably would be irritating, but diluted I think the worse thing you have to worry about (in that sense) is heartburn.

As to effect GBL and GHB are virtually identical; I don't think I could tell the difference between the two if I ingested one and was asked which one it was. 1,4-butanediol has a slightly different vibe but they all pretty much do the same thing.

Another weird plastic's fact is that Diazepam (Valium) absorbs into plastic. It's true. I know that the pharmacies fill them in plastic containers but Diazepam has a nasty tendency to bind to plastics. Granted in pill form that's not too big of a problem because your only talking about the outter edges, but I still store mine in glass; no plastic is getting it's hands on any of my Valium, dagnamitt.

that's weird about the V and plastic. Chem your full of interesting shit- should make a thread dedicated to useless interesting stuff like that. I know I just said your full of shit. But you know what i mean.
