Decarboxylation of niacin

Does anyone know if it is possible to decarboxylate nicotinic acid(niacin) as this would give pyridine and CO2 theoretically, as swim doesnt seem to be able to obtain pyridine, this would make his dream possible without growing poppies or obtaining morphine. Swim could make a gram of what would cost $500 for less than $50.

It should be possible to decarboxylate nicotinnic acid. I am not so familiar with decarboxylations on an aromatic ring but I will try to find some refs for you tomorrow. Perhaps heating with LiCl in DMSO?

It seems that decarboxylation at the 3 position of pyridine rings is extremely difficult and is seldom seen. Because of the increased electron density at that carbon, the rate of decarboxylation is extremely slow. If 1-methylpiperidin-4-one is the ultimate target, there are ways of making this with mehyl acrylate and methylamine.

Cheers for that, cant seem to be able to get pyridine here in Oz without police clearance,EUD? plus other bullshit coz apparently it is used to demethylate codeine?lol Can get it from o/seas but no-one seems prepared to send it to Oz??.My friend has enough chem. experience and is fed up paying for shit they could make.Coz vitamins are easy to get they thought maybe nicotinic acid could be converted into pyridine.Acetic anhydride is easier to get than pyridine and BBr3 is probably very restricted as are most Boron compounds and sounds to toxic to do in a kitchen!

While you are trying to figure out how to get pyridine why not plant some seeds in the meantime? They'd probably be grown by the time you get your hands on some pyridine.

Thanks for the advice JoyDivision, but swim has planted thousands of seeds.But cannabis takes priority and the snails seem to enjoy poppies too.Plus the seeds swim got from the supermarket are probably not great,and swim will not risk buying over net. And swim must be extremely careful these days as a visit from the dogs will see swim in jail esp if they find a few thousand poppies along with the pot plants.Was lucky 2 years ago when pigs found 99 pot plants.Swim almost went to jail then.And in jail even bloody codeine is very hard to get.But thanks for the advice anyway.
