OK, this thread is for the first two seasons of The Wire. We've already got a good discussion of season 4 going in the other thread. People just starting out and catching up with the series can talk about it here... without the risk of accidentally reading about something going on in season 4 (and wrecking the story)!

I'm copying over the last couple of threads related to the early seasons to start this topic and get it going! If you've never seen it and have any interest in the dope scene or Baltimore- check this show out. Current season airs every Sunday on HBO- also available on "on demand".

OK, here goes I think i got just about all the comments on season 1 and 2 from the current season thread. I also deleted all the references I saw or had written to the current season so we dont spoil anything for anyone who hasn't caught up yet!

I think I missed DD's quote early in the thread- he said it was the best show on TV- pretty good endorsement for this type of show- if DD thinks they're doing it right, they've got something going!

I had to pause the first episode right now just tosay...Fuckin' Snot Boogey. Gotta love it!

I just finished the first episode. Its good for sure and has a lot of potential. This Avon fella seems as though hes not going to last very long. I dont yet know what his backstory is but something tells me his position on the streets was handed tohim and he isnt going to be able to cut it.
So far at least i havent had trouble translating. Pittsburgh isnt far and Ive spent alot of time in Baltimore so Im on the level with that. Most of them talk the same way i do anyhow.

Man this is really turning out to be a good show. I hesitate to say it but it must be nice to be in a position like the one that Bubbles is in.
He's copping on the streets with an undercover by his side, with police money and has 100% protection against getting busted. I'm assuming that they let Bubs use all the shit that they buy given the secreteive nature of everything they do and as we all know a sick junky isnt worth shit.
Not saying I wanna be a shitch but as I watched it I jut thought it was funny. I love the scenes with Bubs and the rest of the detectives sitting around figuring shit out. He's always nodding out while they are trying to figure shit out.
I find myself liking Bubs which is very odd. He is the snitch. I always hate the snitch in any show I've ever seen....A likeable snitch...a hard role to play I assume.

O which epeisode is that? , is it where he's working with major crimes before they all leave to go to homicide? where I am in the series Bubbles has been being taken off everyday by some
street rat, and he turns to the cops for help, he hands them ------- in case you haven't seen it yet, and the cops leave him hanging , he calls the detectives cell, says he's found the guy, assured help is on the way draws the guy out and is left on the ground, bloody and broken.

he's also tried to take one of the corner boys in, I like Bubbles too, even with him being a snitch, it's survival of the fittest, and he aint very fit. His house looks like every shooting gallery I've been in in that part of town. there are a lot of Bubbles out there, with thier shopping carts full of goods, and anabadoned buldings for a home. he is a very likable character because he's 3 dimensional,. he's human.

for those who feel left out you dont need HBO to watch the show....I dont hvae HBO and im wathcing it. PM if you would like to learn how. ANd yes it is free.

Starting the second season now....I like how they have a new rendition of the opening theme and i like the new one better. I also enjoyed seeing the harbor and the bay bridge. that HUGE mother fucking bridge brings back a hell of alot of memories.
One involves Myself my father, my uncle, his two neices a thunder storm and a little girls hair standing straight up in the air from all the static electricity. To be a kid again. To be thrilled by the now mundane.

Opi- is #2 the Port story? I love how it's a new song each season, another cool thing about the show. If it's the port story, this was my absolute fav season, hope you enjoy!

Also, so glad to see you've posted! I was worried the other night!

yeah im approaching the end of season two. slowly but surely. Its good shit....

Also I fucking hate Ziggy. Mother fuckers like this ruin so much for the rest of us. God ddamnit

Opi- I'm talking to you first. After this first part, you don't want to read anymore.

Who was Ziggy?? I'm totally drawing a blank right now! Oooooooooooooh shit, now i know, the pier guy's son. I had forgotten about him! Yes, total loser, but funny in parts! He is entertaining to watch! Such a natural moron!!!

OK Opi- read no more! ************************************************** *

*****season 4 info removed*****

I gotta say i just saw the part where Stinger meats with that Intellectual ass assassin dude in the hospital after Omar tried to kill him.
Now stinger sent omar on him and when the Assassin dude says to stringer in the hospital "dont worry about having my back ill take care of THEM myself" and then Stringer acts suprised. THat just pissed me off because he obviously just implicated himself as the one who sent Omar and now the assassin dude (Mommar or whatever his name is you know the muslim nicely dressed dude) knows that Stinger tried to have him offed.

Why does that piss me off you ask?? Because Stringer is much smarter than that which we already know because we have seen how smart he is throughout the first season and all of this one and now the writers are obvioulsy going to end up having Stringer get killed over a stupid mistake like this.
I mean COME ON!!! You think he wasnt going into that hospital room prepared for that kinda shit. He knew who he was dealing with. He knew the Muslim dude was a smart mother fucker. This just pisses me off. Stringer is by far my favorite charachter and I am certain now that he isnt gonna be around much longer.
God Damnit!

Oh yeah- Brother Mouzon, I forgot about him too! He's a freaky character, I like his unique little hit man style though! Stringer is my absolute all time fave of the show. I would have loved a show based just on him. He's up there with Tommy Lee for me.

I didn't like the way they had String handle Bro. M in the hospital- that was just not right, he would have had something planned for that situation, I agree! I think people looking to go into Stringer's career could learn a lot from him, he's a smart guy- breaks the dope dealer stereotype- more like real-life too- they aren't all morons. They obvisouly have some decent business sense- dope's had a market for many years.

We do need thread for season two. I'm going to start one and copy Opi's last one and this one to start it out. That way Opi also won't have to worry about seeing stuff from season 4, or anyone else who is just getting into the series! We could use one for The Corner too if we don't already have one, i'll have to search that one.

I want to clarify something in the above paragraphs that Vax quoted me on.
On the second quote i mention something about Avon and how i dont think hes cut out for this game. Well at that point I thought Avon was Diangelo who actually ends up being his nephew. This happens to me when i watch any series like this or movie with lots of characters. I either miss names or think someone is one person when its the other guy. Kinda like reading....most times i read the first few chapters of any book two times.

OFF TOPIC
Oh and for those that asked....The sketch in my signature is a Self portrait of Kurt Vonnegut Jr. whom in my opininion is the greatest living american writer. I just wish he would have been president or could have been president for my entire life.
I sound like a born again and his bible I know but the man thinks in such wonderful ways. I can only assume that though he has an amazing outlook on life and the human race and is a great humanitarian, in fact the leader of their organization, it still wouldnt make a damn difference if he had all the power in the world....first it might possibly even corrupt a man like that and second....You can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink.
Basically we are built for conflict and as we all know that's what makes the good times so good. The bad.

Sorry weird tangent....blame it on the Columbians.
