Most people live to regret their drug use, but not Keith Richards (http://radaronline.com/category/tags/keith-richards/).
Oh he’s still alive, but he sure doesn’t regret using drugs!
The legendary Rolling Stone rocker, who delved into his excessive drug use (http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/05/rolling-stones-keith-richards-drugs/) in his book Life, makes some controversial comments (http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2012/07/mick-jagger-birthday-resented-fame-backstage-pass-vip/) about his relationship with heroin in the July 2013 issue of Men’s Journal, (http://www.mensjournal.com/), claiming that the opiate was part of his work ethic and helped him create his smash hits, and also slamming the establishment of rehab centers – and RadarOnline.com has the details.

Richards, who confesses that he had to quit doing “smack (http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/05/philip-seymour-hoffman-treated-for-heroin-abuse/)” eventually because of the law and cocaine because he fell on his head, had an interesting response when the interviewer, Stephen Rodrick, asked about heroin being part of his “Protestant work ethic.”

“It was – either stay up or crash out or wake up,” he responded. “It was always to do something. Also, I’ve got to confess, I was very interested in what I could take and what I could do. I looked upon the body as a laboratory – I used to throw in this chemical and then that one to see what would happen; I was intrigued by that. What one would work against another; I’ve got a bit of an alchemist in me that way. But all experiments must come to an end.”
Richards does not believe that any damage was done by his drug use, and that it only enabled him to work harder.

“If I stayed up I got a few more songs (http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/06/rolling-stones-keith-richards-defends-heroin-use-slams-rehab/#) out of it,” he explained. “It’s like Churchill said about alcohol, ‘Believe me – I’ve taken a lot more out of alcohol than its ever taken out of me!’ And I kind of feel the same way about the dope and stuff. I’ve got something out of it. Might’ve pissed off a lot of people!”
The 69-year-old, who now only drinks alcohol and smokes weeds, shuns the institution of rehab (http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/04/recovery-or-ridiculous-90k-a-month-soho-house-style-rehab-for-celebs-includes-recording-studio-screening-room/).
“I hate all this idea of rehab and giving stuff up because it just means you’re hung up on it. It just means, ‘OK, I’m drinking too much – I’ll cut down.”

He evens goes as far as criticizing his longtime band (http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/06/rolling-stones-keith-richards-defends-heroin-use-slams-rehab/#)mate Ronnie Wood (http://radaronline.com/category/tags/ronnie-wood/), who has been to several rehabs over the years, suggesting that he checks in for the wrong reasons.
“Ronnie loves drama,” he says. “He loves to talk to people he doesn’t know. ‘I can’t wait to hear your story!’ That’s not my idea of an audience.”

Two initial reactions: Didn't Keef also write a bio where he totally denied using dope? I thought I remembered that. And my other thought is, yeah it must be awesome to totally be able to bankroll as much dope as yer little heart desires...

Richards did go to rehab to quit heroin (it was some weird cure involving electrodes performed by some doctor in the US, I forget the details, but he did it with Anita). And he's had a few slip-ups since then, and still drinks and smokes (of course).

He can talk quite a lot of shit sometimes, I think he forgets the position he's speaking from (as a millionaire rockstar).

he never IV'd? what a pussy

But he did. He even mentioned this elaborate process of using a syringe needle as a hatpin in order to smuggle them to America.

What he did once that one needle was used up I never figured out...

All you IV'ers aren't hardcore enough. I just make an incision on my chest, over my heart, with a rusty boxcutter and slip in a mcdonalds straw and get someone to spit some gear down in.

Aye, this was my initial reaction too. Gear's not like crack, you reach a point where you don't want or need anymore.

With Keith Richards' cash, money has never been an issue for him. That separates him from our reality in a very profound way.

Yep. In "Life" he said he just did IMs (I'm gonna guess some SC ones in there too).

Hmm

[/B] That separates him from our reality in a very profound way.

And maybe not in a good way.

How would you ever quit without running out of money?

Without reminders like waking up with your head in the urinal at the Trailways station, how would you even kinow you had a problem?

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised by his comments. Though knowing tabloids and news papers, they'll have twisted what he said and taken it out of context. Papers also will flat out make up things.
