After reading through the threads on Kratom, I'm definitely interested. Right now I'm struggling with what to do next, in terms of pain maintenance. I'm trying to do something less dramatic than heading to the methadone clinic. So my question, if you were in physical pain, and had to chose between Kratom and pod tea strictly from the point of view of lessing that pain (in other words, don't worry about price, availability or any other issues)... which would you chose? Thanks in advance! :)

Well I dont know how effective Kratom would be for pain, but as far as w/d's go - Pod tea can be one of the worst because of its such long 1/2 life. But I have heard that PT can be great for pain, so its just what your willing to deal with and how far you wanna take it.
Also, I dont want you to think that there is no w/d from Kratom - there is, but I just doubt it would be near as bad as PT.

I have never WD'ed from Kratom, I heard that it was none too pleasant though. I think that there was an old thread where Zoop was talking about going through them, pretty sure that's why he got on bupe, no? Anyways, I have had the PTWDs (I like that acronym) and they are worse then just regular Morphine WDs, and kinda lengthy. I would assume that they would be a longer kick than Kratom. Pretty much, both are gonna make you go into some pretty shitty withdrawls; I think that the Kratom is more severe but the PT last longer... equal drawl. I would go with the PT though if you are looking for pain relief; Kratom is like Hydrocodone and PT is like Morphine... PT is far more effective.

SWIM personally has gotten much higher for a shorter period of time off of kratom when the dosage is perfect...I dont know how this would be for pain, and swims never had hydro.....but kratom is said to have 17 X the analgesic effect of morphine, whether or not its true, I don't know....I can tell you at the right dose this is very very powerful stuff, at least on swim

well, BDG, I am relatively new to pods & have been using Kratom for 8 months. There has been many days when I chose not to use Kratom. I was awake & felt OK & just decided not to use that day. I was OK. At the end of a busy day I then popped a few Darvocets for my back pain & for a general wish for some numbness. Of course I followed with about a 6 pk of beer & I felt fine before I went to bed & then got up & went to work feeling OK. I am not using K. for pain relief nor the Pods, but just to obtain the " comfortably numb" stage prior to bed. Now that I have tried the P Pods this past week, I do really like the effect, BUT I feel they are definitly more addictive. I don't know about you but I really hate the wd's from anything stronger & that is why I have shyed away from using the stronger stuff. It destroys my life & threatens my work . I can't handle the awful depression- I feel like it is never going to leave. I just want to die and frankly it scares the hell out of me. The Kratom has been a lifesaver. I can use it but I don't feel so desparate when I don't. To tell you the truth- I get the feeling the PPOds are sneaky & I may regret trying them. BUT, what the hell... I'll use up what I've bought , have a good time & then deal with it. I don't know, but I've tried to be of some help. Good luck!
I would choose pods hands down.
If Kratom were comparable they'd be using it. Kratom is an interesting substance, but it's not comparable to morhpine.

No doubt kratom is different for different people, but swim got so blasted off of it once when he was going through w/d that he laid in bed not sure if he ever fell asleep or not high as FUCK for 2-3 hours never been that high even off of pods with a hardcore nod.
I'm glad not many people get this though, or it would probably already be illegal. On the other hand getting dosage right is tough and if you already have a tolerance it kills some of the pleasure, if you have little to no tolerance, wow.

I am currently using PT for pain As a supplement to my meds). Although I have ordered the Kratom 90% extract to try and supplemnt/cut down the PT use.
Also Jaclky has some great research which leads me to believe Kratom amy very well help with my pain, if not at the least make me not care.
If money truly is not an issue. try em both and see for yourself. Everyone reacts differently to different substances. But PT has truly been a Godsend to me.
As for PT withdrawal it is real as others have mentioned.

kratom does ease certain types of pain, sometimes quite effectively. Pods are very good at releiving most types of moderate to severe pain. Pods beat out kratom for pain relief, no question. Kratom WDs are minor compared to coming off a full blown poppy pod tea habit.
If I had severe chronic pain I would choose PT. But, it would have to be severe "life-disrupting" type pain. The WDs from PT are absolutely hellish, and it isn't worth it for me any longer. I would go with the kratom any day. If you can afford it, there is one vendor that sells an enhanced full spectrum extract that is about as potent as oxy for pain relief. And yes, the euphoria is equal to oxy also. It isn't cost effective, but worth it for occasional use.

I'd say why choose one or the other? they are synergistic for sure, and using kratom in the mix will slow down the slippery-slope that is pod tolerance...
also consider throwing in some danshen, its thought to maybe have properties that also slow down tolerance...
finally I'd say chamomille, marijuana, and many other herbs are great for synergy, potentiation, and for slowing down tolerance...
maybe also alternate 80/20 - one week mostly pods, then the next week mostly kratom, and experiment with the other herbs (california poppy's also a good one).... they are cross-tolerant, but anything you can do to keep tolerance from building too quickly with pods will be worth it...
finally, keep track of our beloved fellow opiophile, jacky, and his experiments with alternate opiates... he's the man when it comes to that stuff
