Hi Again :)
Question - have any of you fellow Opiophiles ever attended the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, CA? I am planning to go this upcoming year in April 2007 and would not only love to hear of any in our community that are thinking of going, but I would also love to hear of any experiences you may have had in the past.
Cheers!

Hoss, I been to Coachella in 03, Me and my girl at the time only did it for one day, not 2 days, but it was a really good time.
Not sure how familiar you are with the deseret areas in so-cal but its right outside of Palm Springs, in Indio, i know your from cali so let me go on.
It is ALOT of fun, not as fun as phish tours and stuff like that but its a good time. I know your into electronic music and they always have a big headliner each day, I think last year was Carl Cox, the year b4 was Oakenfold.
When I went I saw D-fuse a texas DJ that wears this big ass cowboy hat when he spins, he was my fav. in that area, but seeing the Beatie Boys was outstanding, they played some of their old stuff off Illl Comunication but alot was free styling from Mike D and Mix Master Mike spinning raw beats in the background, awesome set, except it was only like 45mins-1 hour long..
The electronic area is a MASSIVE rectangular inclosed tent that could prolly hold about 7000-8000 people with an easy 50-60 foot ceiling, I have seen big tents at the so-cal raves back in the day ie. EDC and How SWEET it was, thats what i like to call it now!, but this one is the grand daddy!! good times in there, good intellgent lighting setup, along with good Djs, at least when i was there.
About the prices tickets are like $75 each day, water is expensive, beer is even more, like i think $6 for a Heineken, and they dont let you bring any fluids in.
Getting other stuff in is easy, they just hire teeangers from the local towns to do the security there for the weekend, so a pipe and a bag, and some pills should not be anything you would have trouble hiding for the 2 minute line you wait in.
About the size of this place is what really blew my mind.
Its set on 4 polo fields, polo, yes know with horses and hitting a ball and shit haha, anyways try to picture
4 soccer fields set up 2 by 2, 2 right next to one another then another 2 right above that, to the north. I hope that makes sense, if it does then times that by about 2, maybe 2 1/2 and thats the area size they have it on, fucking huge to say the least, they give you a map when you walk in so you can find your way around, it is seriuosly that freakin big.
When I went, my girl and me were'nt into punk or any of the new whiny bands that came out, (sorry to offend anyone there) so we actually didnt even see one whole side of the place.
April in the deseret is moderate temps, probably in the 70-85 degree range, It WONT rain, so dont worry about it.
If your gonna stay for the weekend and like to be clean and have modern ammenitys, stay in a hotel, but book one soon, real soon, if not you can camp for real cheap right on the grounds there, but no shower for 3 days, I hate that feeling personnaly, I got lucky because my girls parents owned a house in Palm Desert like 15 minutes away, sorry not braggin.
Hmm. I think thats all I could tell you and hope it helps, have fun if you do decide to go, and if so I want a report of how it was!!! any questions, just ask..
