I know you'll be at STS9 scikid, don't forget to wear your red! Vegas was cool, but it wasn't a Panic New Year's show in GA! I'm ready to fucking boogie!

On a side note here, i noticed that we've been linked to from a 'fan-site' board p a n i c f r e a k s . o r g which contains a 73 (700-something post) page thread on what a huge lot of losers we all are. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like the majority of the board are either rednecks or pre-teen gossiping females. Either way, it's certainly worth a read if for nothing else just to see how ignorant (and how so strongly opinionated) most folks are when it comes to being an opiophile. I won't post the link, the board is also private and readable/indexable by registration only...

I think the majority of these Nancy Reagan wannabes are redneck fratboy types. To me, that mentality further enforces the importance of this community of having education on harm reduction, not being judged by others for opiate use and being able to talk openly about it, sharing war stories, shared experience of ppl who "have been there," and a place where an opiate user doesn't have to feel alone like many of us do in our society. The type of ignorance shown by many of the ppl on that site is too typical in our world. There has been about 5 other related threads on that site pop up as well.

I don't see the point in keeping this thread alive any longer considering New Years is over. I say trash it, I doubt anybody would have any objections.

I spent the downtime here last night over there reading the thread....just pages and pages of their group members arguing the same points over and over...

but they all seemed to agree that whether or not being an addict is a choice, having a forum to TALK about it is totally WRONG....said all we talk about is things like showing people how to get high off things....never mind all the threads where we tell people NOT to start down that road...

Usually, when people know very little, or are misinformed, the first and the easiest reaction is hostility. it is a lot easier for those fools to talk trash then to actually do some research, find out what addiction means, understand the concept of sharing information, then make an informed decision. It's easier and take less effort to say: "...everyone over at O-phile is this....or that...blah..."

You know what I mean. Misinformed, and quite frankly rude.

i've been a member on that panic board since 04, im the female member who is on there and on here who they start discussing about page 8. I have met some awesome ppl from that board, but the majority of its members sit around competing to see who can be the biggest asshole and who can be the most condescending. And they fight dirty. when the thread about this board popped up i could not believe how many idiots bought into the "just say no" mentality left over from the raegen admin. not to mention that 90% of the posts over there are about drugs of one form or another, apparently as long as its not dope its fine

hypocracy at its finest

i wouldnt try and go on there and attempt to change anything, they are proud of "bringing the best hate on the interwebs" and they can be beyond cruel. i signed in and the first thread i see is entitled "which region of the country has the fattest girls?" o did i mention its mostly 27-45 yr old men over there?

Yeah it does amaze me cuz' even when people on THIS forum get into it, we're at least civil about it and resolve our differences peacefully (most of the time)! :) Anyways I love a good fight and I feel this board is my fucking home away from home, so I'm bringing it to them or... as someone once said (Nick you listening?) "We will fight them on the beaches and on the shores... in the homes and the streets... WE WILL NEVER SURRENDER!" HA!

My thinking was that the thread didn't serve a purpose anymore, but maybe in the grand scheme of things it does. This type of mentality is nothing new to any of us opiophiles. The herd mentality is hard to break over there, but I have a feeling you could give them a run for their money. There are plenty of opiophiles on that board as well, they obviously don't have a safe place there to talk about it in an educated manner without getting jumped on my some dipshits. Get em chem!

There have been 5 or 6 threads spawned from that main one that you are referring to.

"Go hit yer bong again hippy." More like hit it after you do a fat rail of some yay, then go piss and moan about opiophiles.

Most of the deadheads are older and have a little more experience, so many times you won't get this kind of backlash. Heroin was prevalent in the dead lots after a certain year, kind of like what happened to San Fran after the pilgrimage of all of these kids in the late 60's looking for whatever it was they were looking for. It turned out they didn't have any money when they got there, and the drugs started to change from psychedelics to the harder drugs. The dead scene kept the psychedelics, but the hard drugs entered too. These young fratboy type panic fans are a different story. This is the "Just Say No" campaign generation at its finest with little experience. The campaign seemed to work on opiates but nothing else though, so far. Give em a few years to grow some hair on their nuts.

"I hope you get Hep C." Brilliant concept. That idea works great until suddenly you find yourself in the position of having a close friend or family member hop on the train for whatever reason, and you get to witness it, or take part in it first hand. All of the sudden harm reduction and education might start to make a little more sense.

Its funny, but they would be surprised to see that most of the ppl on here don't fit the profile or picture thats painted in their heads. Ironically enough, the ppl on that board most likely do fit the stereotype painted in our heads.

Any memorable quotes someone would like to post being that the board is non-indexable?

Definitely sounds like a rumor. Panic is very into making a comfortable living and is one of the highest grossing touring acts around today, so that theory of them turning their fan base into POW's would not make economic sense. Also the band members are either currently there or have been. You'll see Dave Schools wearing an NA bracelet sometimes if you pay attention. I wonder if Schools attended NA meetings for something like a pot addiction? Doubt it. I do recall Jerry Joseph, who is popular in the panic scene and plays and records with Schools, has written songs and spoken freely about his heroin addiction. Then there was the guy by the name of Jerry Garcia who was also a junkie. Why would these crazy kids follow around such "losers" and give them their money?

Hey Moviebuff! I hope all is well your way. I didn't mean to seem like I was jumping your shit. I was more just trying to be a smart ass to the crowd that this thread attracted.

I looked up the event that spawned that rumor. I'm going to see if I can find more information on it as well. This article applies to festival, concert goers, or raves, where drugs are a part of the scene. The incarcerated deadheads were always referred to as POW's.

Here is one article I found: http://stopthedrugwar.org/chronicle-old/235/concertbusts.shtml

Here is another article that may support the rumor, but I'm sure they were pressured to make a statement like this. You know they can't interfere with operations like this for fear of getting shut down and losing their livelyhood:

"The band also addressed “Operation Don’t Panic” in their statement, "With full cooperation of concert promoters and local authorities, Widespread Panic makes every possible effort to ensure a safe environment for everyone attending a show," reads the statement. "Furthermore, we fully support the actions taken by local police to eliminate drug dealing and underage drinking at all Widespread Panic concerts."
"Thousands of fans attend Widespread Panic shows equipped with only an appreciation for the music, and respect for their fellow concert goers; this is the responsible type of behavior learned first in the home, and then carried into public, social situations.” Said Widespread Panic concerning the arrests at their concerts over the weekend. “This is the environment in which Widespread Panic strives to play a positive role, and will continue to do so."
http://www.antimusic.com/news/2002/april/item37.shtml

There ya go Moviebuff. My apologies. I decided to do the research on this subject after running my mouth and I am not afraid to post my results even though they may be conflicting with my initial assumption.

http://www.antimusic.com/news/2002/april/item37.shtmloperation dont panic in pelham, al in 2002...i had 9 or 10 friends get busted.....problem is that pelham, home to oak mountiand ampitheatre, the redneck red rocks, has the largest drug task force in the state. Durring 2001's 2 night run( my first panic oak mtn experience :hangloose:crowdsurf :hangloose ) 2 ppl died (one o'd, one suicide after days of drug use) and their parents demanded action. Panic had been playing runs at oak mtn since 1990, was one of their favorite venues, and the city gave them an ultimatum: support us in an undercover bust or u dont get to play here again. so about 200 ppl went down; loaded them onto school buses, but let them stay for the first set. very few served any time, most ppl just got probation (still sux though :( ) and panic hasnt been back since, which sucks just as badly :(

I can't stand kids talking shit about other peoples DOCs. Most people on the lot aren't clean, they are all partaking in something (much respect to those who don't). As long as someone isn't trying to act bad ass or sketchy I'm cool with what they chose to do (as long as they are chill with me).

Anyway ATL was fun. Hope you kids had fun at panic. I wish I would have seen this thread earlier, but I had just gotten back from Europe so I was sleeping all day pretty much. Ahh well there is always next year, though Sector 9 is probably gonna have to find a new venue. That shit was packed this year.

As for Operation Don't Panic that shit is pretty common. I mean look at Operation Looking Glass on Dead lot. You know there were undercovers on Phish lot (i've heard stories of people shooting dope with kids for 3+ years... all the time building up evidence). Cheese lot was sketchy as well, I don't go to too many cheese shows anymore but before I left there were tons of people getting popd. I'm talking about hotel raids and shit.

Nowadays bands are small enough to not have undercovers on tour, besides panic. The state of festivals hase gotten out of control though. So many undercovers. The one thing is it doesn't do any good, people are still going to go, pushers are going to push and the cycle is going to continue.

i just found this info about that other board running stupid about us, i say fuck'em i don't care and i'm actually flattered that we are such a presence in their reality. actually gives my spirit a little boost knowing all that energy is flowing over here... now we should just change it to positive...

anyway it is good to know how people's predispositions, discriminations, and stereotypes (oh yeah and ignorance) fog up their ability to be objective.

and lastly they should take all their albums and burn'em cause all those fuckers stay hopped up!

Well shit I didn't even make it. Was running way to low on the flow (whats new haha, I need to get a job that will fit with my school schedule). Anyways I'm usually around at most of the shows in Madison, Chicago, Rockford and Milwaukee.
