This is why I still think alot of things should be kept quiet.....they have noticed it because of the internet buzz indirectly stated in the article....I love how they say it has no licit medical use in the US and go on to say that it relieves pain etc. and is "opiate-like" They also say that distribution is "illicit" even though its not legal to have or sell kratom in the US yet they list it under illicit, which technically can just mean unmoral or unethical.

God I love our ignorant government

Harm reduction is harm reduction but the intelligent people will continue to research things in their lives before making decisions and inform themselves and the idiots will remain idiots and fuck themselves up with something somewhere along their path of life, can't carry them forever....
Drug abuse is bad,the war on drugs worse.I don't agree with the first bit,but it's a fact that it's the war on drugs not the drugs themselves that fuck us up
All that making a drug illegal does is put $$ on its value.

Sure your right bro. Then again people drink because they think it's cool and booze is legal. All prohibition achieved was making booze more expensive and give the mob a good footing.

It amazes me that they are so stupid on one front, but then they are actually catching these dudes making cocaine into plastic suitcases. Maybe it's just snitches.

I doubt many of them are actually stupid, but it seems they all must be ignorant, stubborn, brain washed chronies. Probably the same thing they think about us, well they probably think we're stupid too

I always pictured the DEA agents as thick-necked jock-types, brainwashed by d.a.r.e. anti-drug rhetoric, who would be too hard-headed to ever consider that they might be wrong about something, or that there could be a better way...

I swear that site reads nearly simular to another one I read about kratom. They probably just copied and pasted it. Weak.

you'd be surprised- I went to school with this hot girl and she was a "blonde" (girls don't you DARE take offense to this just trying to make a POINT!) in every sense of the word. Now? SHe's a DEA agent. Go figure.

Also:

DEA quote:

Control Status:
Kratom is not a controlled substance in the United States. It is illegal to possess kratom in Thailand, Australia, Malaysia, and Myannar

Which means they are just blowing steam- for now.

they have been aware of the plant for sometime, and the american pharm. companys researched it years ago but didnt think it had much potential due to side effects.
I think the illegalization of the plant in many countrys would just guarantee another option for cartels and small time gangs.
what we need is a good strong acceptance of the plant in south america.
I know of plants being grown in the dominican republic.

At least most of us are high and stupid.
P.S. Jacky you're being far too constructive and sensible. This is a drug war and sadly these qualities are pretty redundant.Vengence, stupidity and backward morality are the order of the day.

Illicit Uses:
Information on the illicit use of kratom in the United States is antecodotal. Based on information posted on the Internet, kratom is mainly being abused orally as a tea. Chewing kratom leaves is another method of consumption. Doses in the range of 2 to 10 grams are being recommended to achieve the desired effects. Users are reporting that the dominant effects are similar to opiate drugs.

I love this paragraph. First, the extent to which they managed to bungle "anecdotal". But what really gets me is the abuse of the word "abuse". If it's legal, why is usage considered abuse? Because it causes enjoyment? In that case, tea is also absued as tea. Or are they concerned about the mistreatment of the kratom leaves? The horror! They are ground, boiled, and gulped (amidst much wincing and grimacing) so cruelly.

I also like this juxtaposition:
it ... reduces pain response and
There is no legitimate medical use for kratom in the U. S.

Thanks for clarifying that.

Gosh darn it, who am I to ignore a recommendation from an authoritiy?

This kind of reporting reminds of the worst excesses of Communist propaganda (or how Israel is villified in the mainstream media nowadays).
