Just wanted to post some info on where to find Needle Exchange in your area.
NORTH AMERICAN NEEDLE EXCHANGE NETWORK- (253)272-4857 or www.nasen.org (http://www.nasen.org)
Great site with links and info!
THE HARM REDUCTION COALITION- www.harmreduction.org (http://www.harmreduction.org)
Same with this site with links.
Also, call your local Health Department. They should be able to provide you with information in your area regarding needle exchange or laws regarding the sale of needles.
I just cannot stress enough to everyone, especially those new to injection, the importance of not sharing needles or any of your equipment. This goes for water, cottons, and even for those that snort...straws or other items used for snorting can transmit HCV easily, which is the Hep C virus.
Hep C rates are rising in IV drug users. It could be that many are just now getting tested for HCV, long before we knew about the transmission of Hep C and those users were concerned about HIV. But young men and women ages 15-30 are showing up with new viruses all the time. Some co-infected(which just breaks my fucking heart to pieces) and some with just Hep C. Both can be avoided.
There is nothing harder than to give some 16 year old kid a pos result for HIV.
Don't want to turn this into some soap box, but as most of you know a subject very near and dear to my heart....Harm Reduction.
And if you have not been tested.......I urge that you do.
Stay healthy!
