while fucking around on youtube i watched quite a few bootlegs of recent AIC concerts. i can't remember the dude who is singing for them now, but i had mixed feelings.

on one hand it was pretty cool to see all the fans singing along to shit like them bones, man in the box, etc...sometimes so loud you could barely hear the dude sing. then i think, ahh fuck they should change their name if they are gonna tour without layne.

but in the end i don't know what to think, except i miss layne fucking staley and that voice.

Well I think they know it's a little cheesey; "yes we went out and got a singer that sounds a lot like our old singer that died.....but......."

Zep knew there was no replacing Bonzo, Def Lepperd are just a bunch of wankers - they don't count, but most band that lose a main guy that was so huge an unique part of the band don't go on, unless it's about the money - "He would of wanted us to go on...." type shit.

Well, I don't thunk
they'd exist
if Jerry Cantrell's
solo material had sold better

I'll never forget
reading he was opening for Nickelback
oh,the horror
Nickelback is not fit
to kiss jerry's ass

I found this song and one titled "I'm Eighteen" which I haven't heard yet, I wonder if it's the Alice Cooper song?

edit. It is.

I saw the new AIC in Kansas City a few weeks ago and they fucking rocked. I was going to go without, even though I missed their "last tour" (ten years ago) and had no opportunity to see them again, because AIC isn't AIC without Layne (or Jerry), but when I found out that William DuVall (the singer) was a trusted friend of Cantrell's I bit. A friend of a good musician is a friend indeed.

DuVall does a great "impression" but doesn't exactly match Layne. It's not the same as all the wonderful archived YouTube videos and Unplugged DVD, but DuVall doesn't try to "be" Layne's persona. He does it with respect, unlike all those fuckers my man Eddie Vedder sang about in "4/20/02."

Thanks for this video. I tried searching out on YouTube Maynard singing with the rest of AIC last year, but they've all been replaced with old AIC videos, probably due to copyright requests or some bullshit like that. I'd love to see those videos.

Thanks, Slug, for putting this out there. I love AIC and wish that they were still whole. It is great to see stuff like this.

One of the greatest singers in one of the greatest bands ever.
Hell, that whole Seattle scene kicked ass.
RIP Layne
