Cross tollerance between DXM and opiates?

Never seen this posted anywhere, but would a serriously high tollerance to DXM introduce a higher tollerance to opiates?

This could be a rediculous question, I don't know. I don't know anything about chemistry, but I do know DXM has caused false possitives for opiates before (on my own piss tests) and that Alexander Shulgin wrote "DXM is legally considered a synthetic opiate". So my question is, does my unbelievable tollerance to DXM also create a much higher tollerance to opiates? I mean, I know I have a high tollerance to opiates, just wondering if it's somewhat due to my over abuse of DXM in the past? .. Anyone know?

I started googling around and was very supprised to find an answer to this very question. From the Department of Anesthesiology, University of Virginina Dextromethorphan in combination with opiates actually prevents the development of physical tollerance to opiates (atleast in rats). Just a personal note, I have used DXM to potentiate opiates before, but be very carefull !! Dextromethorphan GREATLY potentiates opiates, so don't go downing a fist full of them. You'll end up very dead.

DXM potentiates opiates as in only ones derived from the poppy? Or will they do the same with opiods such as methadone? Thanks for the info.

well, for a few years I have used dxm in conjunction with opiates to lessen tolerance/increase my opiate effect.
I took the stuff(dxm) for a year everyday...on weekends and some weekdays I would take too much. it seriously impacted all areas of my life, at first positively, it was like breaking out of a hole when I started taking small doses of dxm for opiate interactive uses. I had been using opiates for years, and started the dxm and felt great....10 months later I was a sick pup though.
DXM withdrawl is no fun, basically felt like kicking effexor, but with no opiate withdrawl side effects.

morphidex is/was? a medication for chronic pain sufferers, it contained equal amount of morphine/DXM.


so this weekend I took 120 milligrams of DXM, spread in 4 doses over 12 hours, I took it so I might lower my opiate tolerance for a few days. This time was completely different from the past though...the DXM did not feel good, more of a stimulant irritant...and the next day I was SICK as shit, puking, puking a gut full of bile after puking up all my food, and I was sick the whole fucking day. I dont think I can take DXM anymore save for maybe one 30 milligram dose. its too bad, cause I love that stuff, such a multi-tasking compound that dxm. but now I think I will stay away.

ketamine still sounds good, and memantine might be the best bet, as it might not have as many side effects as dxm/ketamine. memantine is an nmda antagonist, and apparently has some similiar tolerance reducing effects as dxm/ket.

one time dxm completely reversed my tolerance. the day after i drank my p-tea like always - and bang!
euphoria, which for years i didn't have anymore with my tea, like in the first time crept up on me big time.

i have no idea but i could repeat this t/reversal.
one or two times it effected tolerance moderately than not at all.

(i am not talking about taking dxm simultaneously with an opioid)

I believe the one isomer of methadone which acts on the NMDA receptor may cause cross tolerance with DXM. I used to be able to get all weird on one bottle of robitussin now it doesn't feel anywhere as weird as it used to. and I'm not one of those people that does dxm a lot, maybe a handful of times a year.

Yeah, Dex looses much of it's mystical power pretty quick. After a one year break, I hit it HARD and I do mean hard (1.5g - 2g doses and one suicide attempt at 3 grams that left me thinking that there were naked Hispanic women hidding in my apartment)...and it hit right on back though much to my surprise. Lately though, I can't seem to duplicate the feeling I want. I have tried to coax things along with a bit of promethazine and morphine, but still no luck. DXM still certainly helps for opiate withdraws though...tis a plus!

Yeah in low doses it can definitely potentiate. In high doses in can turn you into a courpse (with ops). I used to do DXM on a daily basis, around 500 to 700 mgs as this was the first drug when I was 17 that I really fell in "love" with (heroin was right around the corner like, when you said, the magic wore off). It took about a seven month break with about six months of me thinking I had brain damage until that effect wore off. After a awhile I learned that DXM for the sake of itself had to done no more than once a week although I haven't done it in like 8 years (just not the same when I was on the done). I found though that its most profound potentiation/synergism was with coke. Unfuckingbelievable. It definitely does potentiate ops, I think even when its lost the magic.

Ohhhh, opiates are my thing... I let them rule the kingdom for a while though and it got me into a lot of trouble. Thankfully with DXM batting for me, withdraws were pretty null. I should be posting more now that I have leveled out a few demons :)

Yeah, I hear ya. 2 bottles of robo pills, 40 pills, 5 in the mouth at one time. 8 swallows. One coke. 3 hour wait ..... I don't touch the stuff anymore, after some 175+ trips doesn't do anything for me anymore. Sad. I do miss the euphoric rush when it would set in ... you know, waiting around for 2.5 hours, then it starts to creap on ya for the next hour. Then you're headin to pick up some Menthols, you think you got your shit together, and BAM. Dream land. All of the sudden you're pokin your buddy to talk to the clerk cause it would take you 5 mins to get the words out of your mouth. You walk over by the door to wait for your buddy, but once you get there you end up staring at the wall wondering why your buddy left ya. Whenever you feel lost while dex'in ... always good advice to just stay in one place. Don't more, your buddy will find you. Oh the good ol' days.

Oh yeah and a note to anyone interested .... never ever ever ever EVER smoke weed while robo-trippin. Holly shit, you're gonna be fucked up. You'll be lucky not to end up climbing your neighbors tree naked when you come to. I must admit I'd take a hit every once in a while cause I was already way down, almost baseline. And I would trip my fuckin balls off. Wasn't enjoyable to me.
