Just stepped from a night on the musical town in Hollywood. Saw the Turbojugend LA/Hollywood Halloween party show - with The Kissfits headlining - and that is just what it sounds like - guys dressed to have the look/costume of both bands to varying degrees - and playing covers of songs by both bands - sometimes medleys combining the two. Then the LA Slumlords with little meanie Patty Hearse on vox with a wonderful raucous band behind her (lucky gal - Texas Terri should've had one that full-on!) and then my boys Adz - Tony Adolescents's "other band" - he has had more than one for the last 20 years but now the two are named similarly in the sense he used to use Adz for Adolescents reunions and have a completely different name for his "other band" (Flower Leperds [sic]and Sister Goddam) -- then walking distance was Nick Olivieri with his Mondo Generator celebrating his birthday and the release of the new Mondo CD - So the music I'm about to put on are the discs I picked up tonight: a live ADz show and the first Mondo CD, cuz they were out of the new ones by the time I put my begging hand out (Nick didn't hesitate in wanting to give me one when I asked for the ex-con discount - cuz Nick respects shit and knows what is up. Anyhow - let''s just say I have been and will be listening to some extremely hard rock!!

I'm at work, and they are playing "Mandy" by Barry Manilow. I had to ask our receptionist what the song is called. I'm not a Barry Manilow fan at all, but it's still better than the motherf**kin X-mas music that is just around the corner. Damn, I am already dreading 6 weeks of
"ring ring ringaling/ jing jing jingaling" and "chestnuts roasting on an open fire".

At least "feliz navidad" is okay. I like it because it annoys other people.

Right now, because I can't sleep, The End Is The Beginning Is The End, by the Smashing Pumpkins. Next up, The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning, by the same.

Antony: I also love Orbital. My favorite is their second album. I'd have to say without a doubt my favorite songs are the Lush series (especially 2 and 3) and Halcyon + on + on + on (regular and remix).

God, I'd kill for a muscle relaxer. Legs. I'd even take a blow-dart full of curare. Motherfucking temperate region. Why can't I live in a rain forest with all the good drugs.

Sweet Burgundy-Tommy Bolin

Yeah, I was only able to order 40 then. They lasted Thurs, Fri, and part of Sat., and that was stretching it. It's just really day one of w/d, so it's not bad yet. I'm expecting a gift package in the mail tomorrow. And I'm going to order 100 or so tomorrow or Tues. So it's not so bad, just the legs and restlessness. It's like my body is telling me to sleep, but I just can't.

Sounds like the history of the church to me. Christian metal, isn't that an oxymoron? 'Tis a good question for the metal expert of the site. I've never listened to them. I always thought they were a christian metal act, so I steered clear.

That's so funny I found a bunch of old demo's and peel sessions by them. Adam Ant was the first concert I ever went to. Half my friends were new wavers the other half punk.

Listening to right now. Mark Lanegan band "message to mine" live in Milan!

I tried out My chemical romance but the few songs I heard didn't do much for me. Too polished and why are they so special?

Oh man, I'll be listening to James Brown's "Can't Stand It'" on my way to work today. I have the funkiest live version of that one from 1974 with JB bossin' Maceo Parker around about half way through it and he ends up getting the sweetest solo out of him. It gets so funky JB has to take off his watch and rings, then "gets out his shoes." So funky I can already smell it.

It started as the little chunks of food, or 'nibs', that Bill Ward would have in his beard, then they just started calling him 'Nib'. It is definitely not Nativity In Black, even though that is a cool title and fits the lyrics, actually...

I got to see a show of the Motley Crue, Ozzy tour what in 84 I think....and the stuff I've heard and read about that tour.....I just wish SOOOO hard I could have been a part of that tour...... It would take a life time to make up for what they did in just the span of that tour!!!!

I wasn't saying that 'worship metal' is a genre or anything, I'm just saying that the band Metal Church is not xtian, they just worship their metal is all. And I'm just being presumptuous here, I have no idea what/who they actually worship. I'm sure I'm just making things more confusing....

What about Motorhead?

I laughed so much when I read that...when it comes to music, gotta pay the devil his due...for some reason that got me thinking of the *old* song by Marty Robbins, "Devil Woman..." and that's the whole problem: I always preferred "devil woman" to Mary. Even though Marty in the song was saying he was so happy on the beach "Mary" was coming back (I even got "Mary" tattooed on my arm haha) I *knew* he preferred that old "devil woman" to "Mary" any day...and don't we all!

also woked at the opera house there (all the opera you can eat which was awesome) in the off season they rented out the house and i got to see anything that came thru and also meet some of the folks -the replacements, leonard berstein, miles davis(contrary to his rep,he was very polite and humble),willie nelson, salt n pepa(fresh fest 98)- being around all the opera during the season, seeing the bigger names that came thru, and then spending my weekends at smaller shows(bad brains, murphys law, the gories, royal trux, sick of it all) then ending up in seattle in 92 when alot of awesome stuff was happening there ,just really reinforced a love of all kinds of music for me-there really are very few genres where i cannot find something i really like

"Live In New York' is a feakin' amazing record...

The 'original' version of Titties and Beer--I was telling you about the extended version that's on the "Leatherette" bootleg, which is a studio album that FZ released over radio airwaves so he wouldn't have to give it to Warner Bros. The only difference is the middle part, where Terry Bozzio puts on the devil mask and he and Frank go back and forth---it's much longer than the version on "LINY", and the only reason Zappa edited it (I heard) is that there are a couple of spots where the mics feed back a bit, and being the perfectionist that Frank was, he edited it for that reason. But when you hear the unedited version, the banter between the two goes on much longer before they kick back into the song...

The live "Torture Never Stops" is fucking amazing on that record, too....must listen now!!!!!!!!

Well that's it then I HAVE TO HEAR THE VERSION, that's the best part;
"who's holding your pickle?"

You can tell Frank ad-libbed that just by Terry's reaction, "er.....what?"

"I'm Broken" live Pantera

As soon as I win the Lottery I'm getting "BROKEN" tatood across the top of my back. It's got a triple meaning to me.

1. I like the song so much

2. I'm just not quite right

3. I gave up fighting so many things over the past few years. Women broke me, drugs broke me, the law broke me... I'm broken and beaten and I give up! I love everybody. You're all good people I don't care what you do. Stop and smell the poppies sometimes. Hell, bite one right off. Love thy neighbor, love thy neighbor's dog! what do I care? I'll tell you one thing, It's cured me of my anxiety. Not that I won't pop a few xanax's now and then but I don't "need" them anymore.

Maybe I got a little carried away there but you get the point?

Down has some new live shit on their myspace page. Phil sounds like he's been inhaling nitrous. Fukkin bad assssssss!!!!!!j

I saw Missing Persons play at Astroworld funny enough on my 3rd concert, Billy Idol after that at the same venue. He came out and said he was feeling sick so after watching Stevie Stevens on Eyes without a face, we went ride rides.

I just ordered that old SST compilation Blasting Concept Vol 2 just for the song by Overkill "Over the edge". I haven't been able to find that song since Napster started. I have all the others on it except that weird Black Flag final "single" they released. "I can see you" or some such oddness. I saw them perform that one live back in '86. I've had Vol 1 on vinyl since original release, it's slightly cracked but it still works (insert personal metaphor here).

ELP - Tarkus (fucking brilliant)

Damn you ZK, I may have the only Cadillac blasting heavy metal today. I'm checking out Electric Hellfire Club's cover of South of Heaven right now.

Judgment day the second coming arrives.
Before you see the light you must dieeeeeeeeeee!

Kick ass guitar btw.

Thanks, and that cover came out on a Cleopatra comp that was sooo bad (except for our song--sounds arrogant, but true) that Slayer had their lawyers block any further release/distribution of the album. Heh. We've since tacked it onto the end of our latest, "Electronomicon", as a bonus track....

ZK good luck, if the guy has a single bass and no double pedal.....do you even let him set-up?:D

Absolutely not---we talk to these fucks extensively before setting up a physical audition. Most of the songs have double-bass, so if they ain't well-versed in that, well, go try out for a country band or something. Not to say there aren't talented single-bass drummers out there---it's just that this project requires jack-hammer doubles. Which I love....Lombardo is king, IMO!!!!

I Miss You-Incubus
To see you when I wake up
Is a gift I didn´t think could be real.
To know that you feel the same as I do
is a three-fold, utopian dream.
You do something to me that I can´t explain.
so would I be out of line if i said,
I miss you
I see your picture,
I smell your skin on the empty
pillow next to mine.
You have only been gone ten days,
but already I´m wasting away.
I know I´ll see you again
whether far or soon.
But I need you to know that I care.
I miss you.

Jing-jing-jingaling

Snow is falling

giddy up giddy up let's go
let's look at the show

don't you know it's grand
holding your hand

Haha, I remember first time I shot up *coke*, listening to Leonard Cohen. That was an *insane* soundtrack he did for the movie "Natural Born Killers!" Right now, this instant, they're doing that old Roy Orbison PBS thing, and just showed Tom Waits playing the piano. Tom Waits ruled most of my sordid life, and every time I'd go back to the badlands he's who I had to listen to...only way in those days I could make sense of my fucked up life.

Yeah. First for me was Heartattack and Vine. "I got a bad liver, and a broken heart..." I couldn't believe it. After all the bubblegum, finally. Then Small Change. He seemed to me to be the greatest living poet in those days. I was sold forever. Took my girl and went and saw him live on one of those riverboats at the end of Canal Street in New Orleans, then got totally wasted in the 9th Ward all night. There was this *cop* had robbed a hospital pharmacy and fronted some topless dancer he was in love with all the drugs. And we ended up with'em. I had drugs, money, my girl, and was listening to Tom Waits on a Riverboat in New Orleans. Hey, the crazy life isn't always good, but when it's good, it's real good. I wouldn't change anything...

"It's too early for the circus, too late for the bars,
Everybody's sleeping but the paperboys,
And no one in this town is making any noise,
But the dogs, and the milkmen, and me...

I paid fifteen dollars for a prostitute
With too much makeup and a broken shoe
But her eyes were just a counterfeit
She tried to jip me out of it
But you know that I'm still in love with you..."

This is extreme metal, but also extremely talented metal---the guitarists are amazing, and the harmonic interaction between keyboards and guitar in this band never cease to amaze me. I've seen 'em live several times already and they pull it off flawlessly on stage as well.

Even if you're not into this style of music or the vocals or whatever, anyone with half a brain should be able to hear the abundance of talent in this band.

Me And My Black Metal Friends Lyrics (http://www.lyricsondemand.com/a/atomandhispackagelyrics/meandmyblackmetalfriendslyrics.html)

In the mountains of Norway, where the weather is cold,
there's not much to do, except kill each other, and play guitars in the snow

Corpse paint, which is a scary name for make-up is what they wear,
They'd resemble Ink and Dagger, if Ink and Dagger had long hair

They're pretty evil, and they do not like god,
I don't care if they burn down churches,
but they'd better not fucking touch a synagogue

I befriended them
bye bye mom, it's now me and my black metal friends
I befriended them
bye bye Franklin, it's now me and my black metal friends

They have names like Igor, Meldorf, and Tor
Black metal is not like, is not exactly like Living Color,
I kinda hope they move here, so I don't have to pay import prices,
but I'm kinda fear them being near me,
because, they're not nice!

I befriended them
bye bye mom, it's now me and my black metal friends
I befriended them
bye bye Franklin, it's now me and my black metal friends

Bauhaus - Kick in the Eye

Btw alowishus, I just saw that guy's pics on BME (which I hadn't been to in a long while.) Appearently it's his tribute to The Misfits. Sort of reminds me of this guy I met downtown when I was in my teens who had the letters "LSD" tattooed on his forehead. There was also a man with what appeared to be the eye circle, and eyebrow line of bosco's dog (from the old cartoons) tattoed over his own eyes. He also had a dotted line around his neck, and in the center it said "cut here".

"LSD" (don't remember his name) was nice, but "cut here" (never learned his name) was a little scary.

"Once were warriors," was a good movie, I thought, showing a little about the Maori culture, their struggles with modern day life, alcoholism, all that. Plus showed a kind of cool tough guy gang, and the facial tattoos and stuff. I don't know anything about it, so I found it fascinating.

I'm workin on rebuilding my dirtbike right now, got it torn apart across my parents garage and I've been listening to the Johnny Cash albums non-stop. Don't know why but the man in black just never gets old for me. Kinda music that goes hand in hand with the whole opiated working on bike thing. Probably spend the winter getting it in top shape for spring, I've been ridding the thing so hard it's in need of some serrious work. But that's half the fun of it really, and my parents are great about letting me keep my parts spread out about their garage. They live pretty close to me.

You ever think about getting like a dual sport type bike duckfeet? One for the road and trails? I bet you'd have a blast ridding in the mountains and seeing the country. Funnest / best memories of my life have most all happened on a dirtbike. But we've got some great country here in Utah, part of the reason why I really don't want to move out of this state. If I'm itchin real bad to go ridding it's 15 mins to a track on the edge of town, or an hours drive to some really great mountain / dune ridding. As far as terrain and scenery goes, we've got it all here. Goin on a bike trip with your buddies and sitting around the campfire railing Oxy's after a great day of ridding. Doesn't get much better bro. If you lived round here I'd take you out for some great ridding and scenery man. I think a dual sport bike, and some trail ridding would be right up your ally.

Nah, sure brought back some good memories tho. you know Harleys in old days, well, I loved'em, but you *had* to learn to work on'em or you wouldn't keep one. But to me, that was part of the fun. I'd get a shop--one out here in Fullerton--to do the lower end, balance the wheels, do the valves, then I'd put it all back together. Rebuild tranny, carburator. Like you, I'd sit out there in the garage, get up around noon--I worked nights in a machine shop--and grab a beer. I remember drinking Pearl back then, and get to work. Just loved listening to Country Music blasting, nothing but me and that motorcycle up on blocks. Daydreaming about my pals and the girls back in Florida. finally painting the frame, the buttoning it all back up, rewiring it myself too. I knew that bike up and down, and Knuckles were the pretties old Harleys. Finally pushing it outside and having it crank up, man what a rush.

No, shit, never did dirt bikes. I think it's just how you start out, where you live. My first bike was in Gainesville, Florida, a '63 panhead, and I was hooked for next twenty years. Harleys are what stood between me being what I was which was a junky, and total degradation that comes with dope life. but in those days, if you had enough push, you could pull it off. yeah, dope always won, but by god I gave it a run for the money, and rode hard and stood tall with bikers all over this damn country. I think without knowing how to put it, being a biker and loving Harleys was what kept me from ever just giving up and being a hundred per cent dope fiend, or I'd be dead.

It sounds like beautiful country where you live. I've trucked around just a bit in Utah, and know it is good kept secret that that is beautiful state, all the beauty of desert but got trees and mountains too.

David Allen Coe coming on now.

Yeah, my bikes are what keeps me from blowing all my money on dope now too. Why my parents don't mind me taking up 1/2 their garage to work on them, they actualy encourage me to do this kind of stuff and spend money on my bikes cause they know if I'm spending money on my bikes, and insurance, and maint and all that, that I'm not spending it on dope. Keeping myself busy with some kind of project is what I'm using right now to keep things in check, and doing the work at my parents house instead of my buddies garage is what keeps me from getting totaly loaded while I'm working on them.

I first heard that playing in Austin, Texas and I couldn't believe it was Leonard Cohen. He must have gotten sidetracked in a good way from his usual heavy introspective Folk shit. :

Bad brains, DK, talking heads, I wish I could remember all the 45 & up imports I got from the UK and Japan. Well I still have my maiden ones.
Yeah,Rock for light is a real cool album.Very fond of all the above.I saw Henry do a spoken word gig in London some years ago and oddly he's very funny.
P.S. I'm fond of Henry, but I liked Black Flag more before he arrived.

Done by my man Ric Ocasek.
Henrys a funny fuck, only seen and vid of the spoken stuff, well yeah, BF was a different band back then...that's the way I look at it, like post and pre D.L. Roth and Van Halen. Ever hear the old radio spots they put out for gigs? I think it's like side 4 of a 4 disc LP set. Good stuff.

Ginn is active in cat-rescue, possessing approximately 30 cats, having reformed Black Flag in September 2003 for a cat rescue benefit..

I flipped it on like it was VH1 or something.....:o

If I still had that dish I could find it, amazing what 4-1/2 hurricanes in a row can do, katrina hit FLA 1st, no one remembers that, but we had been hit by alot one after the other, we where in ny as the 1st one hit our house, nothing we could do or no one to call.....just hoped the horses and cats would be found alive later.

Hell bro,a hurricane would really freak me out.I think I'd try to carry the cat.Oh yes we now have a new cat.We found here crying in the street, someone had obviously dumped her.So she's called trouble because she was in trouble when she arrived and she causes nothing but trouble.
I'm real pleased she turned up-I missed having a cat or a dog.

Not much you can do in one, sit down have drink or five, and hope the roof doesn't get taken away or that a car doesn't come through wall, hell 2x4's go thru concrete walls like JDAM's....it was bad watching our house get torn apart 1300 miles away. found one horse, about 5 miles way, she found another horse and they just hung out.

Your a do-good-er huh?

Can't remember all the things I've taken in, people included.

can't tell you how long it's been since I listened to Shpongle!!
(believe it or not, I actually have the CD)

Yeah, you couldn't have picked a better name, at a better time. Just takes me way back, somebody had brought back to Hue, Vietnam, a little cassette of Neil Young and I also kind of remember Workingman's Dead, by Grateful Dead, and Hue was first place, first time, ever, I had tried Heroin, they had these little plastic vials...I was nineteen, I think...

Oh well, back to The Speech...but thanks, really lifted my spirits...

I still got my "Cliff 'em All" shirt. I got my Beatles friend into 'em to, but then they did that one album. :(
Anyway, they seem to have lost their sound, not just hair. Cliff was a big part.
I think I'll play some Cliff era tunes now.
