I would have never guessed it. I have never heard of his first band. I found an mp3 several years ago which is supposedly Bruce "auditioning" for Iron Maiden. The band plays Killers and he does some really cool screams, if ya'll haven't heard it.

"Twenty men had tried to take him, twenty men had made a slip
Twenty-one would be the stranger, with the big iron on his hip..."

Totally cool...good guitar playing, tho nobody could compete w/the original Marty, when it came to "the voice" but thanks anyway... puppets are cool....and I was getting all blue, my own ITunes had just kicked in to Sam Stone, by John Prine "There's a hole in Daddy's arm, where all the money goes..." and I need a shift...

Thanks :-)

Exactly right.

I got "Bad Luck" Social Distortion going right now. Seems to be a common theme in my life these days.

Currently listening to the new Ween album, "La Cucaracha". This band is SO immensely diverse and talented (if you don't count the 1st one). Considered by many the Beatles of our generation, and I don't disagree---they are so 'effin talented.

And if you disagree, just listen to the "White Pepper" or "The Mollusk" album, and then fuck off! (j/k)

And this is coming from a died-in-the-wool metal-head, so there!

Haha..you kids: Tom Waits just came on my Itunes scrambler, singing "Waltzing Matilda," fucking greatest Wasted and Wounded
Taint what the moon did
Got what I paid for now

See you tomorrow
Hey Frank can I borrow
Acouple of bucks from u
To go Waltzing Matilda, waltzing matilda
yu'll go waltzing matilda with me

I'm an innocent victim
of a blinded alley
and I'm tired of all these soldiers here...

"...but the streets aren't for dreaming now
manslaughter dragnets and the ghosts that sell memories
that want a piece of the action anyhow
go waltzing matilea

and you can ask any sailor
for a key to the jailer
and the old men in wheel chairs know
Matilda's the defendant
She killed about a hundred...

ah fuck, I miss my old lady...

manslaughter dragnets

I'm so glad you like it! :) I love cover songs IF they *add* to the flavor of the original. This one definitely fits the bill. It's one of those tunes you can sing along to no matter how out of pitch you are!

Fairytale of NY-Pogues

It was christmas eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, wont see another one
And then he sang a song
The rare old mountain dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
Ive got a feeling
This years for me and you
So happy christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

Theyve got cars big as bars
Theyve got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
Its no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold christmas eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of new york city
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the nypd choir
Were singing galway bay
And the bells were ringing out
For christmas day

Youre a bum
Youre a punk
Youre an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy christmas your arse
I pray God its our last

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Cant make it all alone
Ive built my dreams around you

'Skag and Bone man', by the Libertines...

On and on and on and on and on and on
Like you even know what's going on
Into this world that I'm drawn
They'll kill you before you're born
They'll pawn your soul to be number one

You say it's old fashioned same old song
That's how your mother likes it all night long

And if she says how to feel
Don't even talk about it

We stay home man
Call the skag and bone man
Dig our grave out with a spoon
Then in the morning picking flowers
Spirit up for hours
Til the sun becomes the moon

You say it's old fashioned, well one thing I know
That's how your mother likes it, now watch my boy go

Yes it's real, it's like your next meal
Don't even talk about it

"Shit!, we've fucked it all up man
we've fucked it all up
we've missed half the song out (very nice)"

It's real like your next meal

Wrench is just a household god, but I carry mine with pride.
I don't work, but I can work with it to split your smile.
Break ya down without a twitch, cars are not as big as mine.
Tear son out of your bitch, and sprinkle your remains with lime.

I ain't no work'n man, I do the best I can.
I got the devils hand, rolling sixes.
I am the habit man, I use up all I can.
I got a slackers hand.

Activate remote control.
ginger milk and genocide.
tranquility with broken knees, silly putty enemies
butter knife in your side.

What I got I got for free, middle finger technology.
whats your is mine, yours is mine, told you fucker yours is mine snake eyes for sissies.

On topic: i'm listening to 'In search of Space/Born to Go' by Hawkwind.
Just before it a song called 'Motorhead' (British slang for speedfreak or tweaker), by the same band.
Great band, when Lemmy was still in just a bassist in Hawkwind, and 'Motorhead', was just a name of a great song by them: written by Lemmy:

MOTORHEAD:

Sunrise wrong side of another day
Sky-high and six thousand miles away
Don't know how long I've been awake
Wound up in an amazing state
Can't get enough and you know its righteous stuff
Goes up like prices at Christmas

Motorhead
You can call me Motorhead alright

Braindead total amnesia
Get some mental anaesthesia
Don't move, I'll shut the door and kill the lights
I guess I’ll see ya all on the ice
All good clean fun, have another stick of gum
Man you look better already

Motorhead
You can call me Motorhead, alright

Fourth day, five day marathon
We're moving like a parallelogram
Don't move, I'll shut the door and kill the lights
If I can’t be wrong, I must be right
I should be tired, and all I am is wired
Ain't felt this good for an hour

Motorhead,
You can call me Motorhead, all night.

Damn, makes me wish I'd gotten the 80 gig zune instead of the lil one. four gigs sounds like a lot, but really thats only what, six albums? maybe less, at higher bitrates. Also, this may not be the best place for it, but does anybody have a suggestion for a program to normalize volume on mp3's so I don't have to keep fiddling with the volume?

I suppose I could google, and find something, but I would prefer a program (mac or PC) that somebody has experience with, so just in case I run into a snag, or something. I'd hate to try it and fuck up my whole collection. Oh, everyone has ipods now right? Just a neat thing that I discovered the otehr day. if you have an ebook collection (I do, torrents rawk) you can convert them to jpeg files, and read on your ipod/zune/whatever else, as long as it does pics.

As usual, I digress. I am currently listening to "cocaine habit blue" from Mother McCree's uptown jug champions.

Listening to my favorite song: Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen performed by Jeff Buckley, who died tragically too young (Buckley not Cohen). I don't know about Cohen's death.

kd lang does a version too, on her CD "Hymns from the 49th Parallel" - - - all canadian stuff with Neil Young's Helpless and also her version of Halleujah.

But Buckley's is the best his voice is haunting and there is a guitar solo in the middle. It is unreal.

If any of you watch The West Wing, it was used at the end of season 3 when CJ's Secret Agent guy gets gunned down in a store while buying her a flower. It was also believe or not, in Shrek. Scrubs has used it too.

Really, Listen to it. Hope no one has already listed it!

Listening to my favorite song: Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen performed by Jeff Buckley, who died tragically too young (Buckley not Cohen). I don't know about Cohen's death.

I still like the original by Leonard Cohen... who, by the way, is alive and well. I also love "Suzanne"...

Steely Dan

If I had my way
I would move to another lifetime
I'd quit my job
Ride the train through the misty nighttime
I'll be ready when my feet touch ground
Wherever I come down
And if the folks will have me
Then they'll have me
CHORUS:
Any world that I'm welcome to
Is better than the one I come from

I can hear your words
When you speak of what you are and have seen
I can see your hand
Reaching out through a shining daydream
Where the days and nights are not the same
Captured happy in a picture frame
Honey I will be there
Yes I'll be there

CHORUS

I got this thing inside me
That's got to find a place to hide me
I only know I must obey
This feeling I can't explain away

I think I'll go to the park
Watch the children playing
Perhaps I'll find in my head
What my heart is saying
A vision of a child returning
A kingdom where the sky is burning
Honey I will be there
Yes I'll be there

Holland, 1945

The only girl I've ever loved
Was born with roses in her eyes
But then they buried her alive
One evening 1945
With just her sister at her side
And only weeks before the guns
All came and rained on everyone
Now she's a little boy in Spain
Playing pianos filled with flames
On empty rings around the sun
All sing to say my dream has come

But now we must pick up every piece
Of the life we used to love
Just to keep ourselves
At least enough to carry on

And now we ride the circus wheel
With your dark brother wrapped in white
Says it was good to be alive
But now he rides a comet's flame
And won't be coming back again
The Earth looks better from a star
That's right above from where you are
He didn't mean to make you cry
With sparks that ring and bullets fly
On empty rings around your heart
The world just screams and falls apart

But now we must pick up every piece
Of the life we used to love
Just to keep ourselves
At least enough to carry on

And here's where your mother sleeps
And here is the room where your brothers were born
Indentions in the sheets
Where their bodies once moved but don't move anymore
And it's so sad to see the world agree
That they'd rather see their faces fill with flies
All when I'd want to keep white roses in their eyes

I went back to this thread today (great thread by the way gave me lots of ideas for things I would normally miss out on.....)

And Wow - thanks Eveline.....for some reason I thouht Leonard Cohen had died. I need to google him and see how old he is ....he's been around but he's not all that old!

I think he is more of a writer than a singer. However, I found a clip on a German TV show of Cohen doing this song, and it was cool. In the comments on the video blog someone who was totally clueless said he -Cohen- "didn't do the song justice". FUCK he WROTE the SONG!

I gotta go find that link of him singing it (actually more like him "chanting" it) backed up by singers coming out of these little archways .... http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=bc3_1179798591

Here it is - he kinds of "speaks it". It's cool. IMHO.

Cold blows the wind over my true love
cold blows the drops of rain
I never had but one true love
and in Camville he was slain

I'll do as much for my true love
as any young girl may
i'll sit and weep down by his grave
for twelve month and one day

But when twelve months were come and gone
this young man he arose
what makes you weep down by my grave
I can't take my repose

One kiss, one kiss of your lily white lips
one kiss is all I crave
one kiss, one kiss of your lily white lips
and return back to your grave

My lips they are as cold as my clay
my breath is heavy and strong
if thou was to kiss my lily white lips
thy days would not be long

Oh don't you remember the garden grove
where we used to walk
pluck the finest flower of them all
twill wither to a stalk

Go fetch me a Nun from the dungeon deep
and water from a stone
and white milk from a maiden's breast
that babe ere never known

Go dig me a grave both long, wide and deep
as quickly as you may
I'll lie down in it and take one sleep
for twelve month and one day

Cold blows the wind over my true love
cold blows the drops of rain
I never had but one true love
and in Camville he was slain

I'll do as much for my true love

Silver Needles.

Youre just a stranger in the past
Just another mug that could never last
You came up slow but you burned out fast (didnt ya)

It aint silver needles on the run
No it aint silver needles on the run
It aint silver needles on the run
Shh you make me feel so bad

You thought you was the only one that got messed up
Me n all the others never had it so rough
Well how come youre dead and Im still stood up

Well it aint silver needles on the run
Silver needles on the run
No it aint silver needles on the run
Oh I remember....

All your plans were made on some pr floor
n all your bags were packed, they never reached the door.
Out ordering your thought exchange (<----wrong words)
All your brains were acting strange
You never lied in dreams before
There must be more to life than getting sore

(what do you think? )

I seen in some music paper that you was gone
And I went right out and wrote you a farewell song
Boy, they had you dead before you was born
And its a shame - you were such a great mover

But it aint silver needles on the run
No it aint silver needles on the run
Silver needles on the run
Silver needles on the run
Silver needles on the run
Silver needles on the run

I got whatever you need AO. We can talk music all day, especially when I get my PM's or maybe via a messenger?? My life revolves around "music mining" as I call it. I prospect music like the 49'ers did gold.

A fusion of hardcore punk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardcore_punk), extreme metal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_metal) and free jazz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_jazz). The genre is categorised by its aggressive style and screamed vocals coupled with highly technical jazz instrumentation which shifts tempo and time-signature in bizarre and often unexpected ways. Lyrics often make use of extended, overly subtle poetic allegories and surreal imagery that are often accused of being overly pretentious. This style has recently received much critical attention due to the relative popularity of The Dillinger Escape Plan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dillinger_Escape_Plan).

Batman beat the hell out of me and knocked me to the floor
I got up and threw him to the floor
He was being such a jackoff

I whooped Batman's ass
I whooped Batman's ass
I whooped Batman's ass
I whooped Batman's ass...

It's raining, I am in pain and I am sick today.

"Sweet Jane" performed by Mazzy Star is fitting the mood right now.

I still love em. I've been wanting to check out Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions and always seem to forget about them when I'm looking for something different to listen to.

"Pardon My Heart" by Neil Young

I, uh, wanted to vote but stopped at the wrong polling station... shit. Another example of Darwinism weeding out the weak links. Goddammit. I hate myself. Where'd I put the pills last weekend...

Been reading this thread, you guys should lighten up a little to the musical stylin's of Wesley Willits. Look up "I Whooped Batman's Ass."

Batman thought he was bad
He was a fucking asshole in the first place
He got knocked to the floor

I whooped Batman's ass
I whooped Batman's ass
I whooped Batman's ass
I whooped Batman's ass

Batman beat the hell out of me and knocked me to the floor
I got up and threw him to the floor
He was being such a jackoff

I whooped Batman's ass
I whooped Batman's ass
I whooped Batman's ass
I whooped Batman's ass...

It's Wesley Willis, not Willits. R.I.P. He was a psychotic street (homeless) artist/songwriter from the Chi known for lacing generic Casio beats with non-sense lyrics. He reached the pinnacle of personal fame when Jello signed him to his Alternative Tentacles label in the 90's. I'm unsure of the circumstances surrounding his death, but he once got his face slashed open on a CTA bus by someone with a boxcutter. This event gave him some serious material to sing about as he mentions it at least 100 times on each of his 30 or so releases. Dude was mad prolific and totally fucking redundant since all his shit is the exact same. Saw him perform in '95 somewheres in Wisconsin.
