I am currently sitting here with my eyes closed (well, they're open right now, but i just had to post this...) with the Dead show recorded 7-9-1995 at Soldier Field...Jerry's last show, and i noticed something kinda weird. At about 52 seconds in, i SWEAR Jerry sings "last muddy river"....

Fuckin spooky.

In some level of Dante's hell there is a whole section of people forced to listen to this crap for all and past the ends of time.

Me? I have to hear it now while alive.

Only in my car, or when I'm home, or when I'm sleeping or eating, walking, talking, sitting,.... you get the pic.

I love the fact that George Carlin does the vioce for Thomas the Train, I keep hearing him say stuff that he isn't.....

".....and then Thomas saw Sir Toppum Hat and replied, Ratshit batshit dirty old twot, 16 assholes tied in a knot, yea, lizardshit; FUCK!!"

But he never does.

YOUONEHUNDRED-

Yeah wouldn't doubt it I was at that show and Jerry was sooo fucking high, they had the telepromters set-up so he could remember the lyrics. He was visible noddin off multiple times, and he jumbled a bunch of the lyrics both nights. His handlers musta scored some of that Sweet Home Chicago smack for him. I still get chills when I listen to an audience recording with the 2nd set opener Shakedown Street, ahh those were the daze.

But actually, I'm doing modal exercises in the key of F#. Anyone else doing the same? Let's discuss.....

Well, the cover band has finally found a drummer willing to audition, so that's happening on the 17th, but he'll probably suck, so it'll be back to square one w/ that; the band I'm doing w/ my buddy from England has A) found a singer from London---Harry from the old metal band Acid Reign and B) recruited a monster drummer from St. Louis that I met when EHC was touring and have wanted to do a project with ever since--now we just need to figure out the logistics of writing and rehearsing a band who's members are all very far apart from each other; and my good friend's Beatle band (that played at my wedding) have offered me the position of their recently-departed bassist---it sounds fun, and would be a source of income (they're amazingly good), but McCartney was no slouch, so it would be a lot of work. But I do love the Beatles, so, maybe.....

You hear Jimi covers out there by different ppl, but I've rarely heard anybody try to copy his sound and style verbatim. It's not a sound you can fake because of the heart behind Jimi's music. Kinda like someone trying to imitate Eddie Van Halen or Zappa, there's just something that doesn't feel right.

My favorite guitarist who still has his own style and sound, but you can hear a great deal of Jimi's influence in his playing, is Vernon Reid.

Zappa is amongst the most inimitable---I was reading an interview with Steve Vai, who got his first job with Frank doing transcriptions of Frank and Vinnie Coliauta just jamming, and Vai said the stuff was so "out to lunch", but Frank was aware of every single note---none of it was "slop". I'd kill to see the "Zappa Plays Zappa" tour, but it so far hasn't come anywhere near my area. I did, however, get to see Zappa himself three times, once with Steve Vai, who was 18 at the time.

As for Vernon Reid, no direspect to you ZW, but I always thought his solos were so, I dunno, sloppy, or messy---like he was trying to jam too many notes into the solo. Just my opinion, tho---I know he's highly regarded and stuff....

Vai is my ultimate guitar hero, I'd say.....then Uli John Roth, then Ritchie Blackmore, and then.....god, the list would take up page after page...

I've gone on record saying that drummers are freaks of nature and I hate them. But actually, I just hate working with them. :D In EHC, we had 13 drummers during the course of our decade or so career.

Yeah, the Beatle thing would be kinda cool, plus I've always wanted to play bass in a band. And these guys just pay tribute to the music----they don't dress up like them or anything (like the Britins). And they make $400-$500 each per gig, so a few gigs a month would be some nice supplemental income.....

And yes, Jimi was a freak of nature---played like no other, and the only one to come close was Stevie Ray Vaughn. IMO, of course...

I have to agree on your opinion of Vernon Reid, I've thought the same thing a time or two. I do still like his style though.

As far as Zappa goes, everything was so calculated. When he was ripping 5000 notes a second and every single note mattered and sounded good. I have a bootleg of a Zappa show on VHS from 81 or 82 with Vai that is so amazing. It sucks to go back to VHS though and deal with the shit quality. Zappa will always be one of my favorites. It's cool that Zappa restored and played Hendrix's Strat Sunburst that he burned, on his Zoot Allures album.

Here's a good cover with some kick ass Zappa guitar. The song should have been arranged with horns to begin with IMO. It takes a second for them to start rocking it out, so don't bail on it too early. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmFPDYo7Tpo

Just curious how many opiophiles know about torrents, and thus are listening to whatever the hey they want to - and for free to boot!. In other words, the thread could be: What have you downloaded lately!

In my case everything from Swedish Punk band Asta Kask to old Brit Blues-rockers Stone The Crows, and the ultimate dub star, Lee Skratch Perry. Hey, not only do I have the complete discographies or close enough, of must have bands like AC/DC, Motorhead, and TheRolling Stones -- but I've got all the albums The Lords of the New Church released and this great Stooges thing with millions of studio takes and patter included for the truly gotta have it all stooge.

You get the picture - should we include this kind of talk in this thread or do I need to start a fresh one?

Being that there are 324 posts, I shamelessly admit I didn't read them all. BUT, I'm sure this was mentioned before... listening to the late, great Johnny Cash sing "Hurt" by NiN is the best cover I've ever heard (right up there w/ Soggy Bottom Boys doing "Gin & Juice".) Much wisdom in that old mans voice... can't wait for the day to tell my stories to the great grand-kids (if I make it.) :p Welllll, I can wait, but you get the gist...

Edit: Seven Spanish Angels w/ Willie Nelson & Ray Charles kicks azz too... makes the hairs on me neck stand up.

If I count the box sets as one, and include all The Highway Men albums, I have 103 cds!!! Fuck, I havent even opened half of them. And thats just cash albums. Hes done duets and guest appearences on soooooo many fucking albums there is no possible way to find them all, unless you worker at the many different labels hes been on

I didn't know one meatal head that didn't have a rush patch on thier jean jacket, and love rush.

As VH1 says:
"How do you feel, agree or disagree, log on and tell us."

Yeah, I know, man, RUSH seems to get ignored alot when it comes to those kinds of 'top-whatever' shows and lists. And, yeah, in the present day, they aren't exactly metal per se, but when I grew up on 'em they were definitely one of the heaviest bands. I fuckin' loved 'em then and still do...

BTW: just heard that the whole Van Halen/DLR reunion tour has been postponed indefinitely. Heard in the same report that no deals were ever struck for this tour in regards to money, etc... and the band all despise each other as much as they ever have...

Also BTW: looks like I'm gonna get to see the reunited Celtic Frost after all (they didn't come here on their recent US headlining trek) when they open for Type-O Negative (who I also dig, and we've toured with) in April. I'm all jazzed up.....

Also also BTW: my 'power-metal' cover band has finally found a drummer!! We had an excellent audition with the guy this past week, and he seems relatively sane, even. I don't wanna jinx it by saying much more right now, but if all goes well, I may actually be on a stage again soon for the first time in almost 4 years...seems like it's been an eternity. :git:

Thanks for tuning in to the Zodiac report, heh, sorry I ain't been around much, but that'll change also, things finally be goin' my way, oh shit, now I fucked it all up by saying that, damn.........

After doing some digging none of the emu's have netplay enabled anymore, some of the ones released yrs ago did, but because and I paraphrase here, it was so bad there were broken monitors around the world, but not from netplay - from people punching their monitors in rage!!!

No wishful thinking now could help bring back the dead.
I never noticed as you turned into a ghost.

My neighbors stereo, I have no idea what it is. Sounds like crap. Backstreet n'syns something or another. Who know's those all sound the same. Whatever the hell is on mtv.

WTF kinda lame names are "backstreet" (bois no doubt)

and n'sync ..... didn't they realise that even though satan is just for pretend, they just sold their soul to him? Didn't anyone tell them how fucking retarded they are / were? I just don't know.

Bob Weir & Ratdog - Take Me to the River

holy crap, man. i was just perusing Lifehacker (shameless plug here, but DAMN that site, I spend as much time on as I do here. It's awesome.. well, anyway, I was looking at todays articles, and I found this: (fuck im stoned and cant remember how to do the bbcode so anyway, i found this: http://lifehacker.com/software/music/get-all-your-music-searches-in-one-place-with-musotik-250498.php

At any rate, I discovered that the site has audio files for damn near every band i can think of, and with a nifty lil firerfox plugin called unplug, i was able to DL the mp3 files... so when im doing my radio gig, if i get a request.. boom, two minutes, tops. only reason it takes that long is cause im already streaming 2 feeds.... anyway.. just thought id share it cause im stoned and its cool as fuck.. and thanks to HoM whereever you are dude, for your post about keyword searches. I was reading lifehacker the other day, and the editor has a bookmark folder for like 15 common sites... some of the keywords were awkward, so i changed it around a bit.. ok, im stoned and rambling and i still havent gotten any sleep, and I just fixed my bros comp... its sad... He hid his taskbar and couldnt figure out how to get it back. Geeks FTMFW!

shutting up, for real.:p:D:cool:

G.G. Allin Lyrics
When I Die Lyrics

When I die put that bottle in my hand
All these years on earth, and was my only friend
When you dig a hole and gonna bury me
Put that bottle of Jim Beam to rest beside me

All my life I've been living on the run
Hanging out in bars and hotel rooms annoying everyone
Living on the road running from coast to coast
Spending many nights in jail, like a gunman at his post

When I die, you don't have to cry
You don't have to feel no feelings inside

Never cared or had no feelings for no one
The only one I cared for was the one who made me cum
Live my life like a loner on the trail
Some of the nights in jail, I couldn't afford no bail

No one to call, no one to see me through
So I bought a gun one day and I came running after you
Living on the road, playing scumfuc rock 'n' roll
I'm on the road and I haven't got no home

Never lived nowhere long enough to call home
I'm just an outlaw scumfuc, playing my rock 'n' roll

Never had nothing that could keep me satisfied
'Cept my booze and my drugs and that woman by my side
She was no woman, but she's good enough for me
She's got that cunt between her legs and that's all I need

So when I die put that bottle by my side
Bury me with ol' Jim Beam and I'll be on my hell ride
When I die, when I die
Down to Hell is my final destination

When I die put that bottle by my side
It's the only friend I had in life and it kept me satisfied
Living on the run you'll never take me out alive
I bought a gun, I'm leaving now

Bye-bye, bye-bye

This is song my inspriation to my nickname. David Bowie 'Ground control to Majortom'. I am sure you all know the guy. Do you think D.Bowie inspired young generation to use drugs at that time?
This could have been a new thread wouldn't it?

Hardy ha bro, points to you too.

Oh,but I kinda like Ska.Checkout English Ska.....the selector of the specials.

The Specials are kinda cool.............honestly.

honestly bro.

Around '94 or 95 the Specials were having a reunion tour here in the states. My hubby being a fan for years was just gonna rob liquor stores and follow the Specials around. Never happened, being the responsible people we are. But it was a fun day dream to talk about. Now they are in a lot of American commericals, it's kinda weird.

I'm listening to a highly educational song written by They Might be Giants. This song will teach you the multiple purposes of that amazing red liquid that pumps through your veins. It sounds like it was written for children but it is loaded with adult enjoyment, especially for junkies :D

We begin in the heart's right ventricle
And travel to the lungs
Red blood cells get oxygen
To take back to the heart
Then from the left side of the heart
And out to every cell
Delivered by the Bloodmobile

I'm at work, and they are playing "Mandy" by Barry Manilow. I had to ask our receptionist what the song is called. I'm not a Barry Manilow fan at all, but it's still better than the motherf**kin X-mas music that is just around the corner. Damn, I am already dreading 6 weeks of
"ring ring ringaling/ jing jing jingaling" and "chestnuts roasting on an open fire".

At least "feliz navidad" is okay. I like it because it annoys other people.

TM420 Don't feel bad Barry Mannilow just came on my Yahoo Tunes!! I am so embarassed,I also am out of skips..

I'm 25 but I'm pretty sure that it was Jim Fox. I only know that because he was the drummer and I admire drummers who sing and drummers who kinda serve as creators of bands and stuff.

Or was he just backup?
