Felt - "The World Is Soft As Lace" The Splendour Of Fear [1984 Cherry Red]
Incredible, somewhat obscure early 1980's dreampop song from UK based band Felt; one of the sweetest songs I know, wrapped in melancholy without abandon. Beautiful.

Black Tie Dynasty - "Debt" Movements [2006 Idol Records]
Texas based prime 80's style synth-washed quality rock created in the current time; highly recommended debut LP 'Movements' can usually be found at your local independent shop. If you like the quality 80's cuts out there, you can't lose with these guys.
I like Black Tie Dynasty since you turned me on to them in this thread a while back.
I like the way you got the artist, track, album year and label. That looks good Hoss. Cheap thrills for me I guess.

Hoss, I always enjoy hearing what you listen to. I have a feeling we'd have similar tastes in music. You seem to like synth and new wave sounds too. But, yeah, some of the things I've never even heard of, so it's cool to see what you (and everyone else) is listening to. It gives me new groups / songs to check out and possibly download if I like them. Keeps me occupied during times of boredom.

I firmly believe that the best music in this world is timeless. That is to say there are bands around today as good as anything from the past, and vice versa.

^ Wow guys thanks  Music is essentially everything to me in life, so it means a lot to me to hear the aforementioned above from you guys - especially you two, as not only do I respect your input, wit and presence here on Opiophile overall and in multiple aspects respectively, I also dig the songs you place here on the music thread, indeed.
Today I had to take my Mom to the Emergency Room as she couldn't move her arm at all per tendonitis (she's fine now, see : after a script for 30x5mg Hydrocodone's, for the first time in her life), thus, whilst she was in the Hospital I took the drive a few blocks over to the closest vendor of the sort and was in search of Morrissey's new album 'Years Of Refusal', which just dropped today here in the US. Well, the closest place I could possibly purchase said disc was at the local Best Buy, so in a somewhat unusual torrential raining downpour in my parts, I made the trek a few blocks over in search of such.
Upon entering this particular Best Buy - which is located right next to the office I used to work at during the SubPrime Mortgage hayday, and of which I had not entered in quite some time - I immediately noticed that the store had not only expanded, but in doing so everything else except the music section seemed to have bled everywhere within the store - the music section had instead, now, been condemned to the front left corner of the store, a mere splinter of what it used to be in years past.
At any rate, being a Tuesday there was a rash of new releases about, employees lazily fumbling stacks of CD's and flopping them into their respective places (with a somewhat inaccurate swagger), and me searching for what I thought would be at least a little slice of new Morrissey albums. No dice.
Ask the first employee I see - "Got any of the new Morriseey albums?" - a question of which tickles the fancy of this particular individuals liking as she says "We have ONE left", of which then she takes me back to corner of the now almost defunct and miniscule music section to remove the copy from a somewhat garbled, rain drenched cardboard box.
Hence, I digress :
Morrissey - "Something Is Squeezing My Skull" Years Of Refusal [2009 Lost Highway (US)]
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3c/YearsOfRefusal.jpg
Said track is the first off of the new album, and although I had already heard the lead single "I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris", I was pleased to hear this somewhat interesting (by Morrissey standards) lead song off of the album.
I'm still soaking it all in, but the album is definitely seeing Morrissey continuing in the overall direction as executed and placed on his last LP - 2006's 'Ringleader Of The Tormentors'; gone are the computerized beat basings again of 'You Are The Quarry' and instead a full of bore of his backing band is in place, to great effect.
That being stated, the last album I actually loved by Morrissey was 'You Are The Quarry', however, this only being the first day with the LP, 'Years Of Refusal' is already starting to grow on me.
Babbling shall end here, but for any Morrissey fan I would recommend to at least download it by your means and liking, and if a true fan at that, pick a copy up. Cheers.

Luomo - "Love You All" Convival [2008 Huume] Finland
Great vocal based electro track that will appeal to fans of Depeche Mode and electronica as well as quality underground melodics alike; the producer, this time under his moniker 'Luomo', an ex-drug addict himself, features the likes of Sascha Ring on vocals for a sweet, soaring new school number containing old school charm; a melding that works in this case, indeed.
Though the sound quality of this particular upload is less than desirable, at least it exists in the first place :

Das Ich "Kain und Abel"
The Timewriter - "Lost In Lyrix" Letters From The Jester [1997 Plastic City] Germany
One of my all time favorite electro-based tunes, of which I have seemingly been featuring here frequently as somehow finding myself personally being in some kind of retro-electro groove, this was an unexpected song that opened up the 'Abstract Funk Theory' compilation on the Obsessive label for the UK based production outfit Circulation in 2000. Unfortunately, the 'Abstract Funk Theory' comps are no longer, however when they existed, they featured the favorite tracks hand selected from respected producers and artists which when packaged and programmed together in their own respective compilation volumes unleashed a bevy of rare and usually unavailable music within the carefully chosen tracklistings - but, in the absence of the continuation and creation of these choice LP's, we are at least left with quality electronic music and beyond featured on such many times over, labeled by tastemakers and by some of the best hands that graced the music boards over the years.
In short, the 'Abstract Funk Theory' series was awesome if you are into electronic music; if so - check it out!
In this case is a track that starts off mellow stylie, but trust me when I say if you are an electronic or old school fan - wait until 3:50 into the song to open up; well worth it, as it is an expansive, atmospheric electro song that I have personally started off more than a few sets on the beach with this tune to great effect - when the timing and vibe is right, of course. Hope you enjoy.

Wrapped up, yet another, Toad The Wet Sprocket binge. Dulcinea and Coil are my favorites. I just finished listening to Cat Stevens' Tea For The Tillerman Followed by, Catch At Bull At Four. I'm kind of a dinosaur as I come from the age of LPs and the idea of listening to one song at a time was, and still is, a bit foreign to me.
Many artists meant for their albums to be heard as an opus and not dissected by the song. Brain Salad Surgery (ELP), Diamond Dogs (Bowie) and Just Another Band From L.A. (Zappa) are just a few of the LPs that spring to mind.

The Smiths - "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side" The Queen Is Dead [1986 Sire Records] United Kingdom
Seeing as how Morrissey's new LP 'Years Of Refusal' just dropped this last week, I have listened to it many, many times and actually have found a liking to the actual album, however, I cannot help while in times like this to visit the classics of an artist whilst in the wave of absorbing new material of such.
In this case, nestled from within the tracklisting of the seminal 1986 Sire released 'The Queen Is Dead' LP I am jamming to the classic and fan favorite tune "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side"; back in early 2007 when I was still living over the hills in the Central Valley here in CA, I saw Morrissey's first concert on his American tour in Stockton at the Bob Hope Theater - and it was at that gig that he actually performed this song live for the first time in quite some time in the US from what I understand, and, furthermore at the same particular gig he performed "Lucky Lisp" off of the 1989 'Bona Drag' LP for the first time in ages to incredible pandemonium. What a gig it was; anyhow, for any Morrissey and/or Smiths fans out there, here is the video of The Smiths 'performing' on The Top Of The Pops with a rather flamboyantly swaggering Morrissey at the helm :

Well, I'm not really a 'true' Smith's fan, Hoss
More of a Jonny Marr fan :p - the man could blast out some unexpectedly brilliant riffs
And as for Morrisey - when he was truly 'in tune' with Marr they did make a few tunes to my taste
there was a video on MTV2 a good while ago - nowhere to be found (not even on youTube) unfortunately, but just the energy and the cool and collected nature of Marr juat playing, keepig it cool, and morrisey prancing around the stage with a few (fake?) roses hanging out of his back (attached to his belt, if i remember correctly)
Brilliant video - like i say - nowhere to be found
so here's one of the songs by the o'l Smiths that takes my fancy: Brilliant lyrics and some cool guitar playing by Marr (and the song/video i was talking about above)

Fuck, I haven't even thought about record in a long time. There is definitely something to be said for this rating up there near the top even though there was no "mobile studio". It's not the recording quality that makes it great but the raw intensity that was captured. Very good addition.

'Lully's Turquerie' As Interpreted By An Advanced Script - Murcof
Most on here probably won't like it. Murcof is a Mexican electronic artist who basically composes original pieces, but also takes baroque and classical pieces and sets them to electronic beats / synths. This particular piece is set to a baroque piece originally composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully, who was a court composer during the reign of Louis XIV. The album it's on is called the Versailles Sessions, and was performed as a concert of sorts live at Versailles not too long ago. It was also the runway music for the Chanel Spring / Summer 2009 Haute Couture show in Paris a few weeks ago.
After that, I'll probably go to the Weeds section on Showtime's website and listen to samples and make a list of songs to download. I like how they play a lot of indie / alternative music on that show.
I've already downloaded:
"Here's Your Future" - The Thermals
"Nosebleed" - Illinois
Which were songs played on Season 3. Nosebleed is the song playing when Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker's character) had to do the "brick dance."

Tortoise - "It's All Around You" (2004 Thrill Jockey) USA
A classic tune in my lil' mental playlist as I walk around city streets on random days, this tune has always stuck to me from first listen and as such is a kind of mini-fusion melodic new school jazz roller; straight from the Chicago post-rock funk jam-stylio band Tortoise, this track is the lead song of the eponymous LP, of the same name, of course.
Something about this song - including the actual title itself - has always resonated with me, and that being stated, I hope at least someone out there enjoys it in one way or another :

Not too familiar with the Sugarcubes stuff, but I know that's the group she was in before going solo. Just not familiar with much of their songs. I'll have to give it a look though. My personal favorite of hers alone is Homogenic, followed by Debut and Post. Some of her newer stuff is good too, but I like the earlier / older stuff better.

Masta Ace Incorporated - "Born To Roll" Sittin' On Chrome [1994 Delicious Vinyl] USA
Since recently moving my record collection into the back room I have been in a frenzy seemingly trying to reorganize the mass of vinyl since the transport, but within the organizational madness I am always greeted with surprises that I forgot about or slices of funk that bring back memories, and as such I just flipped onto this little nugget in the vault a few moments ago; interestingly it turned into a West Coast Hip Hop anthem back in the 1990's even though the artist was from the East Coast - this was during the dumb ass East vs. West 'Coast' bickle hatred thing the industry had going on - nevertheless, this is a classic from where I'm from, even though many of you will probably crack a smile and laugh. Nicely, as these 40 ounce bottles got me reliving some old school memories tonight :

*Special Note : I have to add (as if anyone actually cares) that I first picked up this song on a Maxi-Single cassette (remember those?) which came in a hard actual plastic tape case instead of the cardboard case/sleeve that the lower 'Non-Maxi' tape singles came in, before it was released on Masta Aces' 'Sittin' On Chrome' LP, thus, it was a remix tape for his previous 'Slaugtahouse' LP. Still got the tape, bought it back in 1993/94 or so right before I got my first turntables, thus was probably one of my last 'tape' purchases before I moved onto the almighty vinyl, hehe.

'The Blues Brothers' - "I knew a hooker once named Minnie Missoula" - Cab Calloway leading the band/audience on Minnie the Moocher at the end is one of the film's highlights - every time I watch that movie (it's on 2x a weekend on USA/Spike/AMC/etc.) I am amazed at the cameos/performances - Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, James Motherfucking Brown, Johnny Lee Hooker...and the Blues Brothers Band itself, minus Dan Ackroyd, was quite impressive as well.

Wilco - "War On War (Live)" Yankee Hotel Foxtrot [2002 Nonesuch] USA > Chicago
Wonderful song from a wonderful album; 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' was the LP from Wilco that really got me into them, and as such I have been a fan ever since. If you've never heard the album and are into indie-rock/alt-country styling, this is a good one which leans more on the indie side, but is a great LP nonetheless.
In this case I am actually listening to a wonderful live rendition via YouTube of which was recorded live on the David Letterman Show some time ago; click the large bold font below, turn it up and enjoy :

What about Ryan Adams?
Yeah I like Ryan Adams and when he was in Whiskey Town as well
Ryan Adams - "To Be Young (Is To Be Sad, Is To Be High)" Heartbreaker [2000 Bloodshot] USA > New York
I love Ryan Adams; I actually first came across him through his Whiskeytown LP 'Faithless Street' - I was strolling through the local Best Buy on a lunch break (back when I used to work literally a block away and more importantly back when this particular Best Buy still HAD a decent music selection : it has unfortunately gone to complete and utter crap as of late, but such was expected thus my never ending championing of local independent shops), and not only did the cover artwork for the aforementioned CD catch my eye, but so did the name of the band = Whiskeytown.
Whiskeytown? Sounds like my kind of band. Went back to work, sliced it into my CD deck at my desk and got down with some sloshy booze riddled tunes of woe. From that point forward I realized that Whiskeytown was already broken up (my CD purchase was circa 2003 or so), thus from that information I learned of Ryan Adams' solo career and began picking up some of his individual work.
Interesting note should be added that Ryan Adams was addicted to Heroin and Cocaine amongst booze and who knows what else up until recently, making some of his work reverberate that much more with me.
Nowadays I own nearly every release and must admit that most of my favorite work Adams' has done was with his past band, Whiskeytown, however it seems at least to me that within the vast amount of work he has released since his departure from said band there are nuggets to be had in nearly all of his albums released solo, however there are also a lot of so-so work as well.
I really like 'Pneumonia' when he was with Whiskeytown, and as far as solo work goes I dig 'Love Is Hell (Part 1 & Part 2)' along with a lot of the music he has released since forming together with The Cardinals, his new band - however I do not personally particulary care for their most recent release, 'Cardinology'.
Anyways, I am beyond babbling; here is one of my favorite Adams' songs - enjoy :

^ Hell YES - LOVE that album! I remember when it first came out and I heard 'Heavy Metal Drummer' surprisingly on the local radio broadcast and it got me interested enough to pick the LP up, which of course is a modern masterpiece in many listeners minds. Upon discovering Wilco and researching their history, I got into Uncle Tupelo and another off shoot band by an original band member of UT's called Sun Volt.

Hey Young World - Slick Rick
City & Colour - "Waiting..." Bring Me Your Love [2007 Vagrant] Canada > Ontario
Most definitely a song that I can relate to in terms of how opiates have impacted my life in more ways than one, and, as I can imagine, such is a song that could probably be related to by many of you out there reading this, perhaps.
"Waiting..." is another beautiful (personally figured although if taken incorrectly in the wrong context albeit morbid) tune from Canadian artist Dallas Green - who so happens to be the lead singer of the Alt-Rock band Alexisonfire - and as such, is featured on his City & Colour solo project sophomore effort 'Bring Me Your Love'.
Dallas began his City & Colour side project as an outlet to write, record and perform acoustical creations and the result of his endeavours thus far have been strikingly rich and beautiful.
Now, I know I have been getting more and more detailed with these little musical posts in my presentation - and I usually do not post lyrical content - however, in this case, this song means a lot to me and particularly concerning opiate use and the impact of such on ones life (see : the prolonged usage pattern/dopesickness portion/etc.), so without further ado, here is the URL link to the YouTube video for the song followed by the lyrics; hope you enjoy :
City & Colour - "Waiting..." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDieZbG3KT4)
"A coma might feel better than this,
Attempting to discover where to begin.
You're weighed down, you're full of something.
Of sickness, and desertion.
You're weighed down, you're full of something,
You're underneath it all.
So say goodbye to love,
And hold your head up high.
There's no need to rush
We're all just waiting, waiting to die.
Hoping a better place is all I need,
With moments of innocence and mystery.
Oh, it's the little things you miss.
Like waking up all alone.
Oh, it's the little things you miss,
When you're underneath it all.
So say goodbye to love,
And hold your head up high.
There's no need to rush
We're all just waiting, waiting to die.
All your friends seem like enemies
When you're broken down and empty.
All your friends seem like enemies
When you're broken down and empty.
So say goodbye to love,
And hold your head up high.
There's no need to rush
We're all just waiting, waiting to die."

Awww, that sucks for Primus---fuckin' boorish assholes (that crowd)---they're a great, talented band.
I'm an old fart, Motown, so I've seen Rush many a time. First time was on the 2112 tour, saw 'em 3 times on that tour, then also 3 times on the Hemispheres tour ('Cygnus X-1' baby, yeah!!--ok, now I gotta go play along with that one, hehe). given anything to see them then.
I figured you have seen some great shows in your time. What else.... what else?
Yeah, I felt so bad for Primus - but, then later I saw the Primus fans boo the Meatpuppets
off stage - again terrible! The crowd was yelling at the Meatpuppets for playing a "Nirvana"
song - they were playing Lake of Fire - which is their own song!
I guess most had only heard that song from Nirvana Unplugged. Either way - relentless.
What's wrong with playing a great cover anyway?

Uncle Wig - I'd love to hear about some of your favorite show's.
You have some good memories you care to share?
I'm not trying to brag but I've seen just about every band I've wanted to see, with the exception of the Beatles, that came out of the 60's - early to mid 90's) I grew up in a very small town in Southern Indiana. Louisville, KY, Bloomington, Evansville and Indianapolis, IN and even Cincinnati, OH were all within a reasonable driving distance for concerts.
The first concert I ever saw was Black Sabbath in 72 or 73. It made a lasting impression on me. One of the best concerts I've seen was Led Zeppelin in 76/77 (?) On the Physical Graffiti Tour. Our seats were 12 rows from the stage. They opened with The Song Remains The Same and I don't think my jaw left the floor for the rest of the show.
Way too many to list. But growing up in such a small town, going to concerts was one of the things that kept us up to date with the scene - so-to-speak. Seeing the Stones On Mick's birthday was cool. The Who (original members), Tull, Allman Bros, Elvis Costello, REM, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Paul McCartney, Going to The Grand Ole Opry, Kiss, Blah, Blah, Blah... Too many dead brain cells to recall but there's lots more.
Seeing Kiss was a trip because me and a friend were just cruising around Louisville and we saw the Marquee at the Gardens saying , Kiss - Live Tonight. We didn't even know who they were or what they were about, It was a wild night and I still laugh about it to this day. Imagine seeing Kiss, standing up front by Gene Simmons, and having no idea what was about to happen.

That must've been an eye-opener indeed. As I think I've told ya, UW, Kiss and Sabbath are two of the bands that are directly responsible for who and what I am today.
Some may say that's a bad thing, but I beg to differ.
Saw the Sabs for the first time in '78---Ozzy's last tour with the band (pre-reunion, that is; all that reunion-tour crap is ok, but it isn't possessed of the same magic as the first go-around). That was the "Never Say Die" tour, and they had Van Halen opening. It was VH's first arena tour, and man, were they smokin' as well....
As a guitarist, it was great to see Eddie VH when he was hungry.....

Hole - (i.e Courtney - fuck that bitch and fuck that noise....AFAIK the riffs for Doll Parts were stolen either from Billy Corgan or K. Cobain....)
But Placebo - i actually liked (and still do) some of their stuff - namely their Debut album (and a few tracks off their Second album)
And I Saw Placebo live twice, actually, while still only a teen - first time 1998 - i was only 15..i went with my mates - made quite an impression, that gig, alright - never before have i seen so many straight blokes wearing full on make up and girls' clothing :D
Second time i think i saw them againalso in Dublin, only in a different Venue (still pretty small by their fame, at the time, 'standards')
The first Placebo Album pretty damn good alright (from which that 'Nancy Boy' track made them a good deal more famous) and was recorder here in Dublin too AFAIK
Oh and also, despit appearancess - only 1 member in Placebo - Stefan (the bassist) is actually gay to my knowledge
The Drummer is straight (and a great, underrated fucking drummer, btw ) and so is Brian Molko -who is also actually straight...the whole camp voice/lyrics and makeup is just his shtick...He might have some Bi experienses or whatever...who nows, but like i say - his image is just his style, his shtick...
But that's only from what i've seen and heard from interviews with them
Oh, and i'm by no means trying to dissapoint you or prove anyhing in any way, but i thought you might find it interesting..
So yeah, like i say - i like their first album, maybe a few tracks from their second album ("pure morning", "Scared of Girls", Brick the Shithouse"
But all their following albums are pretty much SHITE (again - only my own, personal opinion, and i'm well aware that it's a matter of taste
Oh - and here's one of Placebo's best songs, IMO (it's either a demo or a track off some single off the first album, i think
It's called "Slackerbitch" and just a great tune, in my humble opinion:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPYCn_nDFIo&feature=related
Again, sorry - didn't mean to be trashing your taste and hope ypu don't take my post here for me ridiculing your taste - far from it.
I'm just stating my preference for the Placebo i like, instead of (in my opinion) the over-commercialized, NME/MEDIA hyped trash they are releasing now, and actually have been, ever since their first two albums...again just my personal view
Sorry Norko - but they guys just plain sold out, IMO...
Sadly..

Just his shtick and just another way for him to keep on getting laid ;)
Sexual ambiguity was 'IN' at the time (and still is, apparently), in order to get laid by the opposite sex - one night stands and all, plus lots and lots of groupies to get laid by :D

Hell, you do what ya gottta do.:) I even have my own shtick to get laid, lol... I have found I get more attention from boys the shorter I cut my hair and when I don't make an effort to be girly, I have always sort of had this punk/old man look going on... and I live in a small hick town. I didn't grow up here, so I'm the "mysterious" girl from away  awww yeahhhh..ha ha lol

I always wonder about chick musicians, If they are taking appropriate advantage of their groupies:p I know I would be!
I forgot to add(I accidently put ass first..oops:p) Placebo isn't very popular in the US so we haven't got a chance to get sick of whatever bs that goes on(yet)
Also, it's not really the androgynous thing that gets me hot...it's something about the sexual energy that comes across. I don't find all lead singers with sexual vibes(like Jim Morrison) hot... I can't really explain, it's like an automatic reflex when I spot a certain 'energy' I like , you either got it or you don't.

Yeah - i think placebo were virtually unknown in the US, until that Movie "Cruel Intentions" came out
The movie starts out with a song called "Every you and Every Me" from their second album and is on that movies' soundtrack, i bet...
here's that^^ song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-fJ9ROrW08 <<<<nice riffs alright, i'll say that much
and here's "Today's" Placebo, ripping themselves off with a song called "medz" (off their latest album if i'm not mistaken)
Anyway - here's "Medz":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eh0rAUwZSQ
(^^^^the "Every you Every me" rip off, IMO)
But oh well, I think most bands that have "made it" are bound to rip themselves off eventually, anyway, though....
that's why i'm not particularly fond of their latest work (after the first album)...Well not just because of that actually...plenty of other reasons
Still, nice riffs on "Meds" too....i wonder why? :p ;)
maybe people in america know that one song b/c of cruel intentions, and the kate bush cover b/c it was on an episode of The OC, but that's about it..... those are pretty much the only songs that most people here know
I like their new stuff too, but like I said, we don't really hear them over here. I'm also not as picky, about shit like that, as I used to be.
I know what you're saying though...
Lady Sovereign - "Random (Menta Remix)" Vertically Challenged EP [2005 Chocolate Industries] United Kingdom > London
Starting this Sunday afternoon off with an ice cold brew and a tune that has one of the illest beats this side of the funk since the likes of "Born To Roll" by Masta Ace Incorporated back in the day; to make things even better, this version off of 23 year old Lady Sovereigns' debut LP features the remix touch by UK Grime duo Menta and contains a sick verse from UK Grime MC Riko. Definitely one of my favorite tunes of 2005 and the simple yet effective beat still sounds as fresh as it did four years ago, even though sometimes the chorus of this song can get annoying to me at times; at any rate, cheers Opioheads :

how about when the 'z boys' were taking part in some skating competition, where all these clowns were riding their skateboard, standing on their heads on the board while it rolled, doing silly shit like that, and i think there was some kinda crappy muzak type of background tunes playing while all that was goin on,

PE were great live- saw them on New Year's at an insane club on the Lower East Side called The World, back in 90 or 91... what a night!
Gangstarr was the shit- Guru & Premier. I loved the Digable Planets' first album 'reachin...) and saw them live in Phoenix (I was visiting a friend), as well as NY- they never got the respect they deserved here in NY, especially amongst other rappers- back at the height of their popularity, my friends smoked a blunt with Doodle Bug in Washington Square Park, said he was very cool.
Slick Rick forever- unfortunately never saw him live as he was in jail most of the late 80s=90s, I think for killing his cousin:(. Eric B & Rakim (= best MC ever) true classic.
Another group/solo that never got the popularity they deserve were Ultramegnetic Mcs, and Kool Keith solo (aka Dr. Octagon, Black Elvis, etc.).

Those days there was no rule book, no one knew what was the right way or wrong way, there was no formula to make a rap song/album (except sampling a song that was already a hit or being Rick Rubin of course ;)) and people were just doing anything they could come up w/. Whatever felt/sounded good to them.
Unlike today which is very much like the latter days of hair metal were you had a cookie cutter formula that just churned out album after album w/ no real talent or thought behind them.
Look at those 1st couple records of NWA & PE, shit it's just as relevant today as it was back then, when music can stand up against time, when you can listen to it 20 yrs later and it still holds true, that's when you have something classic.

the 1st lollapallooza in 91 was my best concert experience ever - Rollins Band, Butthole Surfers, Ice T (2 sets- rap and rock, with Body Count), Nine Inch Nails, Living Colour, Siouxie & the Banshees and Jane's Addiction:cool:
i remember towards the end of the Surfers' set, Gibby started screaming that some 'black dudes' were following him around, trying to rob him- he pulled out a real shotgun and started firing it into the air- then some of Ice-T's band came out (some very large black dudes) and smashed a bottle over his head...obviously all set-up/staged, but fun.

I spent my time around the small stage at plooza 1 - Tool played. :D
Until the end when Janes played, my friend's mother worked for the outdoor arena (how we got the great seats) and they needed help working the main stage, him, I and another friend all got to stand/sit on the stage and throw kids back into the 1st row.
We were all tripping - it was and is the best time I've ever had at a show. I didn't work too much (well I couldn't really), I was in a trance watching/hearing the band. I remember after the show ended I sat down in a chair right were Perry had just gotten up from and I was thinking it was so awesome because the chair was still warm from his body heat, like I was soaking in his energy, yeah I was tripping alright!! ;)
