I am currently brainstorming, and soon to begin a working on my next exhibit...

This may be an odd question, but ill be damned if this aint the right site...

The vision a multi medium exhibit, of various aspects of a junkies habit / lifestyle

drawings, photograghy, collage, painting, mixedmmedia, ect.

each medium, with a small series of work (between 3 and five works)

Any fellow junkies willing to partisipate in the model / subject department? Other wise its all gonna be self portraites

I think that is an awesome idea Anti. You are very creative. We've missed you, i haven't seen you around on the site much lately.

Here's a crazy idea, Antigone....would you be willing to show a "different side" to the "junkie" as someone who doesn't fit the stereotype at all & in fact is just trying to cope with horrible chronic pain without necessarily only taking prescription meds.....and without necessarily always taking them as prescribed because* they're often prescribed politically rather than compassionately....?

I know this may be outside your original vision. But you know me, always trying to advocate for my own little corner of "junkie-dom" :-)

As always I say this without any negativity towards my other junkie brothers & sisters....I use that title, "junky," without any stigma. I think it should be a proud title, as much as black or gay or christian or muslim or buddhist. And as I've said in this post & elsewhere, I think that people who are affected by the horrors of prohibition are all in this together.

From the most depraved crack addict to the recovering dope fiend, the most "innocent" medical marijuana user, all of us....we are being made to sufferer, in one form or another, for politicians' unscientific & compassionless whims. To get a handful of jackasses elected to power on the high holy horses -- really mere houses of cards build on lies, as we've seen in this current election season.

I hope that if you are able, and if you see fit, that you'll find a way to show this particular "other side" to the spectrum of opiate users in your art exhibit. Perhaps if I tried to take some pictures of myself expressing my pain, alternated with other pictures when I've taken a high dose of opiates & vaporized some MMJ, hopefully in a state of relative relief.....you could use the contrasting pictures to create your own single (but dualistic/contrasting of two states in the one image) point-counterpoint image.

It could go well with the very similar.....almost externally/visually identical.....dualistic image of someone nodding versus in withdrawal.....

Anyhow, whatever you do, I'm sure it will be awesome, and whatever I/we can contribute to it, I'm sure that we'll all love to throw our two cents in where we can :-)

I know that I for one would very much like to be able to reach the "world of squares" in such a way.....of course people who really appreciate art aren't quite your average American jackass, but the broader of a net we can cast, the more people can really begin to understand the world of opiates and the broad spectrum of people they touch in so many different ways.

eh, i'm bored waiting for my vikes to kick in so, i'll post one of my poems for you...

Riding the pleasure cycle

The pleasure plunger presses on
That sweet release
I've found myself lost in a dream
But like all dreams it must end
And pain follows so closely
And life seems but a dream again
only this time it's a nightmare.
So the pleasure plunger presses on
and that sweet release decends
time and time again.
A cycle like any other
like all others.
Except this one always ends
in tradgedy and pain.
Leaving one searching
for that sweet release again.

I have much more where that one came from, let me know if you want any... and if anyone shows an interest, maybe i'll start posting some of my other stuff here.

Sure, I'd be happy to help in whatever way(s) I may can. Like "Powdered Love", I also write--poetry, prose, et al. and would contribute if needed or wanted. IF that's what you're looking for.

I don't think I'd make a good "model" for much more than an average junkie though...

i wouldnt discount any part of addiction... (kinda started my wee journey into this lifestyle with chronic pain issues myself)... heroin just got easier then docs..

i looking to show the strung side of thtings, since this is where im spending my time lately... but youve got my brain going EW. Mainly looking into the devilish and obsessive use of needles... them being an addiction in them selves...

ill have to post some brainstorming... im trying to avoid the cliches, but the deeper my own addiction has gotten, the more cliche i get.

this is my stepping out exhibit, christ... wait til the family gets wind...

the exhibit will be my works, though id love to see a pic sometime... this site is full of muses, and im excited to see the responses coming in.

anyone near NY, willing to model some.... i feel odd asking that... but i have so many self portraits

i need a good mouth shot, with a tie being pulled
i need some good injections shots, in various angles...
i need nodding shots, cooking shots, a few group shots "shooting gallary style"

i just may have to delve into the albany scene a wee bit more to find most of this. Dangerous round here though.

nothing for nothing, i look forward to posting some of my work as i go along.

I celebrate the junky lifestyle.

Wow, sounds fascinating. Anti, are you saying you might do a thread w/a few of your fave (non-identifying) pieces of art for all of us to see, after your gallery show or presentation? I'd love to see some, too, but won't be in NY anytime soon.

Good luck and thanks!

thanks for bringing that up by the way... non identifing is key to the work... it is a sub culture after
all

be happy to send out my art... got one self portrait on my profile... hehehe weed

If only I had a studio then I would record and post drum tracks that I sometimes write and play.
Maybe I could help with the percussion for a score in a short film, or the likes.

Don't be afraid to start from stream of consciousness and then refine things from there.

I thought that maybe showing the chronic pain side of things....would show how different, and yet very similar, "that type" of opiate user is from the classic junkie. In fact, not only do we ultimately have to face a lot of the same issues of tolerance, but there's the lurking spectre of pain returning if for some reason we ever fall out of favor with our "dealer," the Good Doctor Blood'n'Guts.....

I'm not sure if you're asking for contributions of art or only models, but I've done some drawings and photography on the subject. I can't seem to post the pics here, so I'll just give y'all links. If anyone's interested in more of my stuff, some of it is on http://madnesscult.deviantart.com/

Oh, and though the last one isn't strictly related (it's my dentist) I thought it might still fit in, and plus, I really love that picture. The first one is one of my favorites of all of the stuff I've done. I really need to scan more stuff, since I haven't updated that site in about a year...

Oh, I know why they're forbidden. For reasons unbeknowst to me, DeviantArt has labelled some of my pics as "adult content". It's fucking stupid, because while some of them are nudes, there's nothing you wouldn't see from any man walking down a beach (IE no "special" parts). Most of my stuff you'll be able to see without logging in (which bypasses the content filter) in my gallery (first link below). I'm not sure which ones you were trying to view that were comming up "forbidden", but I put all of those onto my flickr account...

wow, black and white really calls out to you. that format comes you to quite well. from my days in B&W long gone i can see you really nailed the textures on the bathtub shots.

you have a unique viewpoint and style, that is soooo hard to come by...i never found it myself but i can sure recognize it in somebody else...

madnesscult

Thanks slug.

The first time I saw that bathtub, I knew I wanted to do something with it...it's waaaaay worse now, too. My boyfriend and I are totally worried that we'll get sick from all the mold breeding in there. But yeah, I really like working with different textures (the boots, fabric/skin, etc). It's funny how ghetto so many of my shoots were - like the bathroom one, I was sitting on the floor while my BF was in the bath, and I had to drag in a few lamps for lighting. I had to make him stay still forever, because even with the extra lights I had to use a really slow shutter speed, so a bunch of shots came out blurry. I really miss working with normal film cameras, but after having the opportunity to develop film/make prints for free for so long, I just don't want to pay for that shit (and don't have a bathroom to use as a darkroom). So now I pretty much just do digital, but the b&w just isn't the same.

I'd like to see any of your stuff if that's possible.

the point of what I am trying to capture are fleeting images, of a lifestyle, many dont understand. Not to advocate the use, or glorify... but to capture the ritual, and the emotion of the heroin community / lifestyle... IMO, I have chosen an life, that is hard for many to understand. Yet this lifestyle archtypes many aspects of everyones life. This is just one extreme that provokes emotion in the viewer... perrhaps bringing / relating these images to their own life... and hopfully evoking memories, emotions in the viewer, regardless of their chosen life style.

gosh, did that make sense. I dont want to make people understand a junky, or become a junky...

I just have the desire to share a part of my life, in a very real way.

i think im a bit to high to properly express what im trying to communicate within the contexts of paint, collage and photo.

thank you for the well wishes. I really hope to create something powerful

im babbling at this point, thanks for endulging my artists mind

everyone here deserves to be celebrated, regardless of what is considered socially acceptable in this world.

I'd love to see the pictures if you ever get this project worked out antigonemuse. The first description (the mouth/tie one) sounds like it would make for a great pic...get some nice shadows in there. Man, I wish I had thought of that.

I got the idea for the bathroom pic when I was donated a shitton of rigs a while back. A friend of mine had several hundred 27g needles that he couldn't use anymore (he wasn't able to use anything bigger than a 29g), so he gave me like 300 of them. Combine that with the nasty bathroom and there you have it.

for my collage series

are there folks out there willing to collect collage-able items. (any and all) that they associate with their addiction. This along with a personal photo. These items would then be used to make a portrait of you. i dont know if this is the best explaination of what i hope to do, I have some self portraits showing this method... I will try to upload and send at your request, if interested.

more ideas to come... let me know

Weird serendipity,I'm kicking after 16 years,so I was wondering what to do with all my kit.It would be good to put it to good use.The alternative is to dump it,which would be sad,but necessary.
Let us know in detail what you want and I'm happy to airmail it to you.Hate to think what US customs would make of it.Guess we could say it's art.
