Long story short, swim got fired from my job. They had no reason to fire swim except the cooks were all Mexican and spoke Spanish and didn't like working with a white boy like swim. Swim was a great employee, his boss even told me that swim was the hardest working person there. Anyways swim is still very upset over being fired and is contemplating revenge. Swim knows that the majority of the cooks are illegal immigrants from Mexico and has been waiting to get approved for unemployment and it just happened a couple of days ago.

Swim was wondering what swim should do with this information against the company that fired swim for no reason. Should swim make an anonymous call to the INS? Or should swim try and extort money from the owners?

No, you shouldn't call INS because your former employer pissed you off. While it may create some difficulty for them, you'll really be fucking up the livelihoods of others as collateral damage. It's between you and the company, not you and the other employees.

If you're really aggravated at the notion your former employer has hired illegal immigrants, then you would have done something about it prior to being let go. Wanting to feign outrage about it now just makes you look silly. It will waste your time and get you nowhere.

Is CT an at-will employment state? If so, it doesn't matter if you think they fired you for no reason.

Extort money? Uh, no. Maybe just deal with unemployment benefits and pursue another job?

What did they say when they let you go? Did you ask them? Do the owners have any other restaurants?

If they had no reason to fire you, then you would not be fired....if you honestly think you were fired simply because the cooks didn't wanna work with a white boy, then you need to either investigate into this so that you can get your job back because that is not a legal reason to fire someone, or just try to find a new job and chalk this up as a loss

I've been fired when I should have been given a second chance because of a mistake, but I have never heard of anybody being fired because a few people didn't get along.....if they went to your boss and made up some bullshit about you to get you fired, your boss would have confronted you.....so maybe you need to confront him, talk to him, try to get some answers and if he's dodgy, well, that's just the way it go sometimes

Of course their is always two sides to a story and we don't know the other side, only yours. In my experience drug addicts don't make good employees. Ok sorry. It was a tuesday around noon, i was scheduled to work at five. My boss called asked me to come in early to talk(which wasn't unusual). We sat down in the resteraunt and he told me that he would no longer be employing me. He said its not anything i did, but he feels it would be better for both parties if i didn't continue working there. I asked what i did he said, it wasnt anything in particular and he would be happy to give me a great reference in the future.

I agree that the employer does not HAVE to tell you anything, yeah, it's employment at will.

but, human nature, is that people have a very hard time in these positions, firing someone, without ANY statements. I think most managers will break when pushed and say SOMETHING, especially if they have a relationship with the person they are letting go (which is why managers are told to NEVER socialize with their underlings). So I think it depends on the skills of the person doing the firing, and how needling the one being let go is...needling while appealing to the most empathetic part of the manager. It's also likely that someone else in the company knows why you were fired, and they don't have the tight-lipped skills the manager does.

Of course there is a reason.

But again, it doesn't really matter what it is.
