I have been shooting alot of H lately and I was haveing some trouble finding a vein so I took a look at my foot and found one that looked like a good candidate to be stuck. I have a 22 gauge half inch needle, I stuck it in, registered and noticed that the are around where I had stuck was beginning to swell. I immedietly pulled the needle out with out injecting anything and within 45 seconds I had a bump the size of a golfball on the top of my foot. It has been about ten minutes and it seems to have stopped swelling. It aches a little bit, but not very much. I just wanted to know if annyone has had any experience with a situation like this, and if I needed to do anything, aside from refraining to hit on my foot, like seek medical attention.

Put ice on it, rub it down with some vitamin E, and start takeing 4000mg vitamin C every day till it goes away. Wear some thick fairly tight but still comfortable tube socks. You more than likely cut the vein with the needle, not hard to do with veins in the feet.

Was it one of the large veins on the side below the ankle?

It was one of the large veins on top of my foot. The swelling has gone down immensely. Now there is just a slightly risen bruise that is painful to the touch.

Ya, sounds like you cut it, just take a good care of it.

The swelling is now gone, but it is a very little bit red now instead of bruised, and it hurts like a bitch. However, I think I will live. Thanks for your help repeek

The veins in the feet seem to be some of the tender-ist veins in the body, new needles make using them a real art form. When Swim uses his feet, he holds the needle still with one hand (after registering) and pushes the plunger down with the other. He double checks the register once he stabilizes the rig with the one hand, and then pushes the plunger gently so as not to move that point. Just a little movement and it’s through the vein and ouch, and it takes longer for feet to heal because circulation is slow down there.

Yeah, the feet can pose a problem and most likely you blew the vein which is easy to do. Because the veins are so close to the surface of skin, the swell like crazy. I know that once we lose the veins in the arms the feet become the next best choice, but be careful. Because the circulation is not as good as in the upper extremeties, you don't want a mess of missed shots. It takes longer for them to heal and longer for the swelling to go down. Put ice on as someone said and keep elevated to promote better circulation. I used my feet for many months and regret doing so. But when there is no other alternative, we do what we can. Those veins in the feet tend to blow easily and as someone suggested take great care when injecting. I too held the syringe study in one hand and used the other hand to gently push the plunger. You have to be gentle and steady and one move can blow that vein, even pulling back just slightly can blow a good vein.

Try warming the feet before injecting to get the blood flowing a bit better. This does help and will bring some veins to the surface. And those injections in the feet can hurt like hell. Push too fast and you blow the vein! That slow push and pain is like torture! But, ahh the rewards.....From what I remember anyway!

Just use caution and common sense! And remember to use clean techniques and a new needle is best!

Rob- One other thing. A 22 is way too big for your foot. If you really need to use feet veins, get some smaller needles, it will make it much easier and safer. A 22 is really a pretty big needle, I personally wouldn't go bigger than 25 and that is even a little bigger than needed.

Great point you made about needle gauge size!

and start takeing 4000mg vitamin C every day till it goes away

If you’re going to be taking that much vitamin C daily, make sure it’s compound C and not just ascorbic acid. Ascorbic acid is just one component of real vitamin C, and although it is helpful at lower doses, it’s unhealthy at higher doses when taken by itself. It has a tendency to cause diarrhea (which might not be such a bad thing if you’ve been shooting a lot of dope), most of it is just going to get flushed out of your system, and there’s a possibility that it can contribute to a host of health problems, including increasing your risk of cancer. You see, your body will leach other components of real vitamin C to complete the compound, including things you need and most people don’t get enough of as is, including organic copped. This can lead to other deficiencies.

I’m not saying that if all you have access to is ascorbic acid that you shouldn’t take it, it is still helpful, I just wouldn’t take 4 grams of it a day. Maybe take a gram, and drink a lot of orange juice, or something else which is high in natural vitamin C. Organic C pills might be more expensive, but your body will thank you.
