So, with all the research I do before touching any substance somehow I didnt know tramadol can cause seizures untill about 5 min ago. My question is: how common are seizures with tramadol use and is conected with using high doses (more than the recomended 800mg max daily allowance)? I currently use tramadol almost every day for a couple weeks out of each month. I only use between 4 and 8 pills a day as I find that there is almost no tolorance. Am I at risk? Or am I "safe" as long I stay under the 800mg limit?

i dont really think one can really define your safety involving this. however i have little knowledge on trammys. Ive heard that tramadol can be pretty dangerous and it sounds like seizures occur more often than people think. but again, im not the mod for the tramadol forum lol . others will have more info for you buddy. Until then, be safe, then you can stop. LOL just kidding.

what's up man, i saw your thread and wanted to respond with my experiencs with the tram. i've been taking it for a couple of years now, haven't missed a day yet. i've not gone past 600 mg.
i normally take 300-400 mg per day. not once have i had a seizure. i mix with other things otc and otherwise with no real ill effects. i like it with pods, hydro, codiene.
some guys here will tell you to stop the trams immediately. i can't say one way or the other, but i've had a good experience with lower type dosages and i'm not going to quit anytime soon. they are also great for w/d from pods, i don't feel the slightest w/d symptoms even after a week strait of pods.

Tramadol can increase your risk of seizures by lowering the seizure threshold. The seizure threshold is a balance between the excitatory transmitters and inhibitory transmitters in the brain.
But what researchers had found is that patients taking Tramadol were at a higher risk with, 1)long term therapy at higher doses and 2) The use of other drugs taken with Tramadol; ie: antidepressants(SSRI,Tricyclics), or other drugs that lowered the seizure threshold 3) intentional increase in dosage or overdose that led to seizures, and last, 4) those who had other medical problems, especially those related to medical problems that would increase their risks for seizures; ie: epilepsy, history of strokes, history of head trauma, brain tumors, and a history of alcoholism.
The percentage of those had seizures only taking Tramadol was very low and the risk increased with the above information I mentioned.
If you have ever experienced seizures, then maybe the possibility for you is increased or if you are taking other drugs that lower the seizure threshold than you might be at a higher risk.
Tramadol is not an opiate but thought to bind to opiate receptors and is also thought to inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, both neurotransmitters!

yea, I've been very lucky I've been taking high doses of tramadol for 2 years. 25-30 pills a day (50 mgs) And I've yet to have a seizure but that doesn't mean i won't have one someday, i probably will have one. I'm also on Topomax for pain, but it's and anti-seizure med so it probably lowers my chances of seizures and i don't have any of the problems you listed above and I've never had a seizure in my whole life. But, I'm sure if i got stupid one night and decided to take to much tramadol I'd have a seizure so i try very hard not to be stupid lol. I try very hard to stick to 30 a day or lower. I think i went up to 40 pills a day for a few days once and still never had a seizure but i did feel strange like i might overdose so i knocked that 40 a day off and went back to 30 a day. The only strange thing that has ever happened to me on Trams is a quivering jaw. It's kinda hard to explain and it might be some kind of mild seizure like thing. My jaw kinda moves by it's self, quivering is the only way i can describe it, it's not like shivering, it's more like quivering, involuntary movement and it only last like 2 seconds. Actually that doesn't even happen anymore. That hasn't happened to me for a few months now, not sure why it stopped. I noticed it happened when i took my last dose of the day, meaning my last 8/9 pills for the day. But, now it never happens, so that's good.
I think i i jsut have the perfect body and body chestry for Tramadol, like someone said i'm a perfect walking advertisement for Tramadol with the exception that i got addicted lol.
Ok, i better cut this short because someone complained i write to much.
