Wow, I'm not sure who to feel bad for in this situation.

The four gunmen shot and killed by Miami-Dade police officers in the Redland Thursday night believed they were staging a home invasion robbery targeting a “substantial amount” of marijuana, the department’s director said.
There was no marijuana. It was in fact a “controlled” operation staged by police with the help of a “cooperating defendant,” Miami-Dade Police Director James Loftus said Friday in an interview.
Miami-Dade’s heavily armed Special Response Team, which had surrounded the property to arrest the crew, ordered the men to put down their weapons and they refused, Loftus said. At least one gunman may have fired at officers, he said.
“Sometimes, this is a dangerous job and it’s dangerous for us, and this is a reminder that it’s dangerous for the bad guys,” Loftus said.
Miami-Dade robbery detectives had been tracking the crew for weeks. They believe the men — each with a lengthy criminal history — may be responsible for at least 15 violent home invasion robberies since last fall.
The cooperating defendant, recently released from federal prison, told his cohorts about the location of the supposed marijuana stash. His police handlers told him not to participate in the heist, but he did anyway — and he too was killed in the shooting, Loftus said.
The man was found armed with a pistol and detectives believe his cohorts may have forced him to participate, he said.
The shooting happened about 9 p.m. at a home in the area of Southwest 216th Street and 189th Avenue. The names of the slain men have not been released. The driver who brought the suspected armed robbers to the 3-acre property was not injured and has been taken into custody by police.
The shooting officers have been placed on temporary administrative duty, as is routine in police shootings.

Wow, so the cops killed the guy who handed the perps to him... Why didn't they just take cover and keep the gunfire going until the guys ran out of bullets, and then take them down with no loss of life? Was it in a residential neighboorhood or something? I don't really know what to say either... That sounds kinda like a bad way to catch criminals, to lead them and their informant into a gun battle, obviously knowing they would have to kill them... It's one thing to arrange a buy, and have a buncha cops catch the perp, but to set them up in a gun battle that they will obviously participate in, is straight cop style judge jury executioner entrapment IMO.

Yea this does not sound right. It sounds like the cops knew these guys would be ready to throw down and wanted some old school western shootout.

Have you seen the video of the "shootout" that happened on South Beach memorial day weekend? Apparently the police tried to stop some guy in a car and he took off and started shooting, with the cops giving chase and returning fire.. For some reason the guy stopped (maybe he was hit) and then the cops open fire on him.. here's the video from an apartment overlooking the scene:

i guess the cops figured if they killed them all, then there would be no one to waste money on taking to court?

seriously, is human life that freakin' spectacular that we have to protect it at all costs?
i see 2 type of post about human life here on opiophile:
the "omg i hate people they are the sucks i've lost my faith in humanity idiots sheeple hope everyone dies but me etc etc etc"
and the "human life is so precious how could govt murder someone who gunned down his whole family loss of life is tragedy etc etc etc"

for fucks sake

some people deserve to die
if you are responsible for 15 violent home invasions in MY CITY
fuck you, fuck your mother, fuck your kids, and i'm glad you DIED VIOLENTLY

Yep: it was sw39th Ave., if I remember right...right off calle ocho before it was calle ocho ;) My great uncle 'Click' used to box after the Great Depression, and was boxing in Cuba and met some beautiful Cuban lady and brought her back and married her, so he always had a lot of sympathy for them, and his boys were great. I did that last year of HS up at Coral Gables HS, but wished I hadn't: they were rich kids, I didn't have a friend one. Left for NIcaragua and then Vietnam...always had a soft spot in my heart for Miami...hard to describe that city. And my family by then lived in Nicaragua, and in those days--well, still--Miami was like the capital of Central America, if u know what I mean, always had all these different plots to overthrow different c.american gov'ts there, and Nicaragua, in those days, was still under one of the last of the banana repubic dictators, Somoza...old days...

I have 2 neighbors from Miami and they always tell stories of the cops shooting someone. It is never one cop, but a group that open fires.

Two Miami Beach police officers are in some serious trouble after an ATV accident. Apparently, they left the Clevelander on South Beach with a women and were going at a high speed on their ATV and ran over two people that were laying on the beach. One of the cops involved was also involved in the Memorial Day shooting and I think he was fired after the ATV thing.

When I was in high school, we used to chill on the beach and the cops would roll up on their ATVs with the lights out, hoping to catch us drinking underage or some other bullshit.

I don't have a tremendous amount of sympathy for this informant who was killed in the police raid, but the cops down here definitely have a checkered history, to put in mildly.
