The "Heroin Users Handbook", someone else mentioned in another forum they were looking for the book.
I like it myself, but there is also a great little book called, "Getting of Right," which covers other topics such as; Injecting safely
Care of Veins and injection sites
Overdose
Preparing your shot
And other areas of safe injecting.
It is great for someone new to injecting.
Not that I am promoting this lifestyle or drugs for that matter, but......If you should choose to use and injection is your choice in administration, this book may help you stay safe, and prevent any unwanted problems!
If anyone is interested, let me know and I will see about getting one to you or directing you to the right place.

Is that "Getting OFF Right", candy? If so, I completely agree. Great book for the injecting user.

The Heroin User's Handbook is a good book, got it from Amazon.
One of my favorite passages:
"How to Stay Unaddicted:
1. The number of consecutive days you use is always followed by twice that many days without using.
2. Never use more than three consecutive days.
3. Never use more than four times in a week.
4. Never use more than twelve times in a month.
Don't play games with days"

Hey Peripat,
Yeah, It is "Getting Off Right!" Ooops on my spelling.
It is a great book and we keep a few copies around at Needle Exchange.
I am pretty sure it can be ordered through the Harm Reduction Coalition in NY. It is where I got mine.
As much as I like the Heroin Users Handbook, I often wonder how much of it was meant to be taken as sarcasm. Take the above post on staying unaddicted. I don't know about anyone else, but I found it pretty hard to take some time off from using once I started.
And maybe that is the key, following a strict schedule!
Oh well, too late to start experimenting with a schedule. Not only would I need to start using again, I wouldn't make it past the first week and would be using every 4-6 hours and not on a as needed basis. I would find a needed time.

I seem to remember it floating around down here during my active harm-reduction days (back in the mid-1990s, at a publicly funded needle exchange in Brisbane, Australia). Great stuff, I agree. And to the people who used to tell me junkies wouldn't read, I'd say LIKE HECK they won't! (Nowadays, I'd just point to this website.)

Funnily enough, I've found Francis' schedule to work. Of course, I had to spend years getting f*cked up on H first, but these days (especially since I keep a distance of 30 miles between me and my suppliers, and I'm a bit of a lazy sod at heart, LOL) it seems to work for me. But the temptation is always there to have "just that one extra shot"... and that's when the schedule goes out the window, and next thing you know, you're hocking your wedding ring and all the rest of that sad slide into oblivion... :o
