does anyone know of any research papers that describe dextromethorphan as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor? if it really is a dopamine reuptake inhibitor then it may not just be the NMDA antagonism that contributes to opiate potentiation. it is also a sigma opioid receptor agonist. this could contribute to increased analgesia. it's also a serotonin reuptake inhibitor and a nicotinic antagonist. this is very interesting. I've never really read much about it's effects at other sites besides the NMDA receptor. this should mean that DXM's dopamine reuptake inhibition may extend the effects of dopamine released from taking an opioid.

THere is a little tidbit about it here if you scroll down to 9.2.2.
I'll check it out. Have access to a large library of scientific literature.
One thing I can say from personal experience is that bupropion, which IS a dopamine reuptake inhibitor (and also promotes release, I think) definitely enhances the effects of buprenorphine. Most of the time, the bupe is without effects - that's a diff. story if I wait 12+ hours between doses - but the time is shortened when bupropion is in the picture.

Yup, I've learned something very important, the hard way, that may explain things... recently I took a few cold meds (with dextro of course), but then I just started kinda wigging out, which DXM has never done to me... I got used to it, finally, which was a good thing. Apparently while I was awake and feeling crazy for the next 24 HOURS I read that bupropion somehow slows metabolism of DXM in a BAD way...
So this is not a trip suggestion, its a warning.
Anyway if DXM is a seratonin RI then that would certainly explain the reaction I had... an overdose of the effect, I guess... Because I didn't really trip, I just felt crazy and wide awake for more the whole night, the next day, and pretty much that whole night too... prolly didn't take enough dxm to reach a level, thankfully, or I might have been really fucking sick.
Oh, well, lessons learned.
