Can I Keep Filtered MSIR In Storage For Up To 48 Hours?

I have filtered 45mg of morphine sulfate instant release pills to be used for IV injection.

I have gone way out of my way to ensure sterile conditions are/were met, including the container I chose to store it.

What I was wondering was, will the morphine break down into something bad if I leave it stored like this? Or will it be fine as long as I keep it away from direct sunlight and heat?

48 hours wouldn't be enough time for it to breakdown unless you were under some extreme conditions. The biggest concern would be sterility over that time period. If you are saying you have it in a sterile, autoclaved (or equivalent) container that is airtight it will be okay. Technically, it should have been placed in the sterile container under a hood/biosafety cabinet - that's the only way you could guarantee sterility. MS also does ok in a refrig with no loss of activity.

IMO an autoclave is one tool that no amateur needs. Technically, a hood has no place in this thread either. We're all impressed that you know of these items, but they really have no place in a dope users life, unless that user is also a chemist.

Your technique should always be sterile, assuming this i wouldn't worry about storing it in the fridge for 48 hours, but i definately wouldn't store it @ room temperature.

I never store self prepared injection solutions at room temperature for more than 18 hours, and when i do it's because the pre-loaded shot(in syringe) just hasn't been used yet.

why did you cook so much that you can't use it in a day? cooking that much, eventually you're bound to forget to refridgerate or something, and you know what us addicts do when we run out....

when shooting i try and cook a day's supply each morning if i'll be out, otherwise i prep just a hit or 3 @ a time.

Well, I don't own a vertical airflow hood (they got one up at my college, but I don't think they'd let me prep shots in it) but I think you'd be suprised at some of the equipment that some members own. Anyways, if you think about it, it wouldn't be that hard to construct your own hood unit. All it would take is a blower, a few HEPA filters, a grate or screen, that clear plastic shit that they sell to put over windows that leak cold air, and some lumber and inguinity. I personally wouldn't go through the hassle just to prep shots, but it's not like it would be rocket science or anything.

The point is not what I have or what I know, the point is that you cannot say that prep is sterile. If you choose to inject something, you should have some idea of how safe it is. There is just no way to make a sterile solution outside of a hood. Knowing that, it makes sense to consider how you could sterilize it after this point and before going in your arm. With that said, you have to consider how you can best sterilize it with what you have available (assuming one cares about sterility and would like to avoid sepsis, endocarditis ect.).

Personally, I don't bother prepping shots in my hood, but I do start with sterile saline and filter at least to 0.22 microns. That level of sterility has worked for me and is what I choose. I'm not going to tell someone that something is safe if I can't say it absolutely, which is why I said what I did.

And chem is right, there are a lot of people that have some pretty heavy lab equip for personal use.

exactly my point. no amatuer should be building a fume hook and trying to produce sterile ampoules with the intent of storing them at room temperature for extended periods. it's just too damn easy to screw up and inject an ampoule that has been colonized by bacteria.
