the chinese medicinal plant known as "Cao Wu" which is the name in pin yin for the prepared product of the radix parts.
common names ..Tsao Wu....aconite...
scientific name... Aconiti Kusnezoffii radix.

this plant contains opioid agonists aconitine
mesaconitine
hypaconitine
the plant is used for a variety of reasons, for circulation, and as a pain reliever.
the information I read lead me to believe the alkaloids somehow induce the release of endorphin into the spine.
there is also some relative data regarding the alkaloids effect on morphine tolerance!
now I took a step back when I first saw this and realized that there may be something special here.

the alkaloid mesaconitine is described as being stronger than morphine. and it apperantly can help reduce morphine tolerance, and I suspect, certian aspects of opiate physical dependency.
perhaps this plant material in low doses for a non opiate habituated person would have a pain relieving, relaxing/sedating effect.
and perhaps in the opiate dependent, the material would both strengthen the effects of opiates, or lessen certian physical symptoms, or allow for increased ease of tapering dose.
this might also be a good candidate for replacement therapy.
who knows.
what I do know is the material is not common, and I cannot find a source for pure mesaconitine at my favorite organic compounds seller.
the plant radix parts are avialable though from one company, so I will place an order, read up on all the specifics, and cautiously approach the material.
apperantly boiling a decoction for an hour destroys most of the toxic compounds.

I dont think this plant is similiar to aconite exactly, so dont confuse the two, the only data I have read anything on is just this one specific species.

looks like a damn promising lead research project from someone.

take care!!

That's awesome.

Just think how many thousands of plants and herbs that have yet to be discovered that have similar potential to opiates, benzos, antibiotics, cancer drugs and the like.

If our healthcare system wasn't in bed with the rx manufacturers, they could actually do great things by looking to the PAST and what some cultures have been using for ailments for years. Although, that wouldn't pay the expenses for the 2 week getaways for the doc who pushes the most of their pills, now would it?
