I noticed whenever I use opiates for an extended period of time, I never bother to take stool softeners. We all know the constipation that comes from our habbit, but the thing I ask is this...Does opiate constipation, or even constipation in general cause hemorrhoids? Usually after a few days of heavy use, I'll end up feeling a small, but still uncomfortable hemorrhoid forming. It usually lasts a few days and goes away on it's own.

damn thats a real pain in the ass. I guess you could have a roid rage due to trying to force a shit out making the veins pop out and shit but I don't know I have never heard of opiates directly causing it. but it could happen. It remindes me of a funny story totally outside of the topic but here it is. My sister is a nurse and a week after her working in the ER and that is what she wanted, I went out with her and her nurse friends. Well her co worker told me this storie of this 16 year old kid coming in for H wds well he was so constipated that the strongest laxitaves tha hospital had would not help him shit.. so her coworker had to pull little rock consistancy but bigger than rabbit turd balls of shit out of his ass. 2 days later this kids mom made him bring this chick flowers as a thank you.

Absolutely....Constipation can lead to hemorrhoids. With constipation we bear down harder than we normally would when we have a bowel movement and this will lead to hemorrhoids.

What most don't realize, unless you have seen the inside of your rectum/anus, is that most adults have internal hemorrhoids. Over time, especially with problems like constipation, those internal hemorrhoids become external. As this does sound gross, push them back in if they are small. While they may pop out after a bowel movement, they should be easy to push back in, which means you can push them back in and they stay in, until the next hard bowel movement with straining, where it may happen again. If they should start to cause you pain, bleed, become much larger, see your doctor. Preperation H is good if you want some relief if they do cause some pain or itching. But see your doc if they are bothersome.

I would take stool softeners daily. Colace(docusate sodium) 100 mg 1 to 3 a day is fine. You can even take a few more if you are really constipated to start with. Stay away from laxatives as they can cause the loss of motility in the bowel. Stool softeners work by softening the stool so it makes it easier to pass. Drink with a full glass of water and do try and increase your water intake anyway.

Stay away from fiber supplements such as Metamucil powder or any powdered fiber supplement. THese can lead to more problems. Without enough water daily with them, you can end up with an impaction instead and have a bigger problem to deal with. I recommend stool softeners and a good suggestion is to keep them by your bedside or somewhere you will see them and take them daily.

When you say "impacted", I cringe. Maybe kratom users you should drink lots of water....cause kratom leaf, if you swallow the grounds, seems to be pretty fiberous (the ground up stems I'm guessing).....

Thanks for the tip Candy. I'll keep that in mind next time I use kratom. I don't know EXACTLY what you mean by "impacted", and I don't wanna find out.

Well, Sunwheel, you don't want to get impacted. Impaction is when a mass of stool cannot be moved by colon contractions.

Anyone on opiates, especially those who take them daily, whether they be prescribed or obtained by other means should take stool softeners to prevent constipation. Constipation is the most common side-effect of opiate use and if not taken care of can lead to impaction.
Laxatives are not good to use and stool softeners do not cause the symptoms that laxatives do.

And if you do have hemorrhoids, you should take stool softeners to prevent dry hard stools that can cause your hemorrhoids to bleed or worsen.

If you do think you might have an impaction(not saying you do, this is for everyone), go to a doctor or ER for a diagnosis. Fecal impaction can lead to serious problems, not to mention it can hurt like hell!

So, now you know!

Well I know that there are hemorrhoids internally and outside the anus. Is it common when you are constipated to have a internal hemorrhoid bleed? I was very constipated for about a week and everytime I felt like I had to poop, I got very excited (LOL) but it was so hard to get anything out because of the opiate constipation. I was pushing hard and I think one of my internal hemmie's started bleeding. Is this normal or do I need to get it checked by a Dr.? I know it was an internal one because I have no pain or discomfort in that area. Please let me know what to do. Thanks in advance!
Sorry about being so blunt everyone....hope you weren't eating. ;)

Sounds like a barrell of monkeys...a really full barrell (sorry)...thanks, if I wasn't gonna keep that in mind next time I use, I won't be able to forget now! Always good to be on the safe side...

I'm so glad I don't have regular access to opiates (once a month I get 4 or 5 doses of various pharmas). I have a lot of kratom, but its not something you really have an easy time taking everday...or want to for that matter...drinking it is an accomplishment itself.

Well, yes! When your constipated you can cause a tear inside the rectum that will cause bleeding. Constipation causes hard dry stools, which can cause irritation and small tears.
You can try adding mineral oil to your daily diet which will help lubricate the stool, if you can stand to take it. The best suggestion I can give is to take stool softeners daily. They are safe and if you take them daily can be effective. Increase the amount of water you drink and add fiber to your diet through the food you eat. Avoid those fiber supplement powders. Without drinking enough water with those, you end up with a hard sludge in your gut.

Opiates slow down the motility of the GI tract and this leads to constipation.
Buy some generic stool softeners, Docusate Sodium, which is as good as the brand name Colace. Keep them by your bed to remind yourself to take them every night. i just include them with other meds I take daily and it helps a great deal.

If your bleeding with every bowel movement, you may want to see a doctor to determine if it is indeed hemorrhoids causing the bleeding.

And remember, these are just suggestions. I am no doctor and cannot diagnose your problem. I can make suggestions, but this does not take the place of you seeing a physician to rule out other causes. Always consult a physician if you are on prescribed medication or have a medical condition that you are under the care of a doctor for.

I once got so constipated when I was double dosing methadone every day, that I had to dig it out with a pointy chop stick wearing latex gloves and using a douche bottle to keep the material "moving"....

good god, it was horrible...the pain for a day and a half leading up to the point there I "took matters into my own hands".

I at first thought the douche bottle would help things move...but the water sprayed out as the big hard cueball sized shit ball rolled around, pressing against my sphincter, but not about to be forced out a hole 1/10 its size.

that was bad, but I had a vision of me in the most humilating posture possible for a man, in stirrups, legs up, and ass open to a turd ball technician hard at work.

it didnt take long, it was immediately relieving, and it didnt cost me a "crap" load of money.

I worked at a sushi restaraunt with some other using freinds...they nicknamed me "hashi" after that, the japanese name for chopsticks.

I think the severity of the condition was due to me taking two doses of methadone a day instead of one....this lead to me not having many bowel movements.

I think that constipation is a definite cause of hems.

Yeah, the first time I ever took morphine, I didn't shit for 2 days. Then it happened...The most horrific pain I think I've ever felt. I was sitting on the jon for at least an hour, crying the whole time. Not just due to the incredible pain, but having to stick things in my ass to try and lubricate the situation. Not just enemas, either. Since the enemas didn't work, I had to literally pluck out about 25 slightly bigger than golf ball sized chunks of crap. I felt so dirty afterwards...Good thing I'm slightly lactose intolerant, so any time I eat any pills anymore, I just drink a glass of milk with my dose, and everything is all systems AOK. ^_^

Ha......this thread was good for a laugh....but for those of us who use regularly it really isn't funny is it...??

I thought I'd pose a serious qestion:

Have you noticed that some opiates create more of a constipating effect than others.....??

SWIM notices that hydrocodone (usually norcos) have very little constipating effect......whereas morphine is a whole other story......and dihydrocodeine......good fkn lord.....SWIM has a whole fkn baggie of those and he's scared to take 'em because one dose and he couldn't shite for a week....

So just for general information, which opiates cause the most constipation and which cause the least......???

absolutely, maybe you shouldnt push so hard...or be a MAN/WOMAN and take an exlax or a senicot. It works, and you owe it to your body. You will be much lighter afterwards and will float around with ease. It doesn't feel very good when the senicot kicks in, but as long as youre intestines are full it's not bad. Afterwards feels really good. Depending on how constipated you are, laxatives can actually give you more shits than you have, or force out a big impacted dookie that makes you sweat and slouch over. Point is, feels good later.

hemorrhoids must suck

I know exactly what you mean. DHC is the worst for me, serious constipation, rock hard stuff I'm talking and it makes peeing nearly impossible.....next is codeine for me - that was my first experience with the feeling of trying to push a glass coke bottle through my ass. I'm glad child birth isnt in my genes.

Dope doesnt constipate me that much unless I'm using a lot, but if I'm just using a couple pils a day I usually shit every morning, maybe 2x even, before I get my next fix.

Hydro and oxy barely constipate me.

Poppy seed tea and poppy tea really constipate me as well.

So it seems that the more natural the opiate the more constipation I get, minus DHC, thats semi synthetic right?

Oh and I've never had hemmoroids from opiate constipation, not that I can recall.
