:oCould someone tell whats the differance, other than the time release coating..
between Oxycontin and Roxicodone. I take the 30 mg. Roxicodone
I had problems getting the Oxy's 40's on Medicaid; so supposedly they will
allow these Roxi's " A Generic Oxy" ! But I notice a differance, quite a bit .
Its a good thing that its used as a break thru pain med; & Dones primarily.
Thanks alot.

Contin is the brand name as in Oxycontin. The chemical name is Oxycodone. Oxycodone can be found in Perc's the Roxi's you speak of and many other pharmies.
Oxycodone is derived from Thebain I believe. Oh and the coating on Oxycontin has nothing to do with time-release. It's the pill itself that makes it do that. When it's crushed up, like so many people do, that is when you lose the time-release mechanism.
Contin = Brand name
Codone = Chemical name
Go top erowid.com and do a search on Oxycodone. You have alot to learn yet. Good Luck.

Also, the Contin means time release, the Roxi-codone are not. That is why docs give out the Roxi's for break thru pain, because there is no time-release in them, they hit you all at once.

Actually, there is no difference between Oxycontin and Roxicodone. They are basically the same drug. The generic name: Oxycodone Hydrochloride, Brand names: Endone,Oxycontin,Oxy IR, Roxicodone, Roxicodone Intensol, Seupedol
The difference between Oxycontin and Roxicodone is that Oxycontin is a slow release tab and Roxicodone is immediate release, which makes it good for break thru pain.
And there really should be no difference between the generic drug and the brand name drug. They are the same drug and the legally the only differences in the drugs can be the type of fillers or additives they use.
I don't believe there is a generic available for the controlled release tabs.
Oxycontin should not be used to treat break thru pain.

i always thought that the cocone contained APAP where as the contin just was straight oxycontin and then I did some reading on oxycodone and they said it was prescribed in place of oxycontin to lnown drug abusers and to prevent abuse.
I do find Oxycontin easy to shoot and Oxycodone nearly impossible to shoot also so maybe that might have just a lil truth in it.I'mnot sure I'm even close here as its not my DOC but just thought I'd try and help.

LOL, thats exactly what I said Candy - the Oxycontin is time release, the Roxicodone is instant release. Thats why they prescribe Roxi's for breakthru pain, and Oxycontin for day long pain.
edit - Oh wait, we probably hit the submit button both at the same time, I dont think you were trying to correct me, sorry Candy!

For some reason allot of docs and nurses think Oxycontin is more powerfull than say percocet or OxyIR. When you explain they have the same active ingriedients they usually give you a suprised look . lol
For me I can get Oxy IR which is plain oxycodone immediate release no problem but to get oxycontin is another story. Sadly medical doesent cover contin here only the immediate release forms.

:cool:Thanks renton for your reply and everyone else too.I am tending to
agree with you as it seems like sometimes the info is as hard to "get" as the
Drug itself. In this case Oxycontin. wish I could get ahold of a few dozen...
my DOC! instead of Dones and Roxi's for breakthru. But too bad i cant play
Dr. and prescibe myself.:plol

OxyContin is more powerful than Percocets or OxyIR's. If by powerful you mean by more of the drug.. 10,20,40, and 80's... Perc's come in as high as 10mg right? and is OxyIR's highest 30mg?

you are way off with this info oxycodone is the drug in oxycontin i dont see how prescribing oxycodone would prevent abuse
oxycontin is generally harder to prep for IV as it has microcrystaline cellulose that makes it gum up when you add water oxycodone does not

percs are oxycodone and its fuckin damn near impossible to shoot that shit, what he means is contin is shootable because it doesn't have APAP or ibuprofen... there are versions of contin that are shootable, but most oxycodones are not

All of these drugs contain the same active ingredient, which is Oxycodone.
OxyContin is Oxycodone in an extended release form, that is why the strengths are higher for these. They are meant to be slowly released over an 8-12hour period. OxyContin comes in 10, 20, 40, 80mg tablets usually taken 2 or 3 times a day. If you are on 40mg twice daily you total dose being 80mg, you are technically taking 3.33mg every hour for 24 hours.
Roxicodone is Oxycodone in an immediate release tablet. It is available in 5, 15, 30mg tablet. This form is generally used for breakthrough pain because of it's rapid onset of pain relief and short duration. Normal dosing is every 3-6 hours as needed. I have seen this mediaction used as a routine med given around the clock because or insurance reasons. For example someone's insurance may not cover the extended release version (OxyCotin) because of the high cost. So a doctor will write for Roxicodone or Oxy IR (same thing) to be taken routinely to provided pain relief throughout the day. this type of RX will say something like 1 tablet every 4 hours or 1 tablet 4 times a day. Take the 1 tablet 4 times a day that is equal to 120mg of Oxycodone, meaning a total does of 120mg, actually a higher dosee than the 40mg OxyContin 2 times a day.
Percocet is Oxycodone with Acetaminophen (APAP) in it. This is added for two reasons. One for the added benefit of pain relief, it's just Tylenol. The second reason which is obvious to all of us is to discourage abuse. Percocet is also an immediate release formulation, meaning it will provide 3-6 hours of pain relief with rapid onset. Percocet comes in alot of different strengths. The amounts of Oxycodone are low, 2.5mg, 5mg and 10mg(I have heard there is a 15mg version but I have yet to see it) with varying amounts of Tylenol, I have seen 325mg, 500mg, and 650mg.

OxyContin is oxycodone, meant to be released slowly, gradually over twelve hrs.
Roxicodone is *also* oxycodone; the diff. being that Roxi is released immediately after you take it as oposed to the "Contin." But both medicines contain the same active ingredient: oxycodone. The difference is how the oxy is released into the body (ie. immediately, or time released)
Everyone here basically said the same thing on this one, good question though. So many diff. names for the same thing can get quite confusing, i gotta say.

Your forgetting the days of the 160. Now that was a dose worth prescribing.
On another note and this has nothing to do with you Roxi. If its said once its not necessary to say the same thing 8 billion more times.
Bottom line is that pills have happy chemicals in them that make you feel like Tyson after he bit that dudes ear off.
