Holy shit. I mean, most of the film was fairly predictable and what I expected.

But the early scenes of neglecting the baby in favor of gearing up freaked me out; since my son was born, the notion of even the slightest neglect or potential harm done to an innocent baby gets me right down in the pit of my gut, the bottom of my heart.....

But of course, for those who've seen the film, it only got worse. The baby ends up dying, although there's no indication that it was actually anyone's fault or that it had anything to do with their & the mother's junk use.....that really fucked me up.

I consider myself a very thick-skinned, tough person. I have a strong stomach and I've seen just about every horror the world has to offer; but there's just something about seeing a small helpless baby come to harm, or even simply be ignored/neglected/not given what they need.....something that really gets me. I still can't get that detox scene with the dead baby crawling along the ceiling out of my head.

That's some fucked up shit right there. :speechles :confused-

I have seen it many, many times it is a great film....the scene where he is WDing and the baby appears in the ceiling, that is burnt in my head..

"It's fer ya own good son. Ya gota get off the shite!"

The scene with the baby crawling on the ceiling is some creepy shit. I think it was implicated or assumed that the baby O.D.ed from breast feeding witch was H tainted. Had some very dark moments along with that ridicules: dirtiest toilet in Scotland scene.

I am so surprised that this was the 1st time you ever saw this movie EW, yeah the baby-scene is one very hard part to watch. Whenever I see that movie again, I always fast-forward thru that part. It is just too much to handle.

Bt that movies is an all time favorite of mine.......

I hear you man ive seen the movie...many years ago..and damn i must say i as well am partly traumatized from seeing that fucked up shit. When i think about trainspotting i think about the dude swimming in the toilet and the baby thing. But to be honest i try not to think about it...its just when i do...thats what comes to mind. I too am a father so that scene really gets me. I think someone who is a parent would find it just a little more disturbing than your average passerby. I mean i get rocked and i know people that get really fucked up but they also take good damn care of the young ones. THeres so many other good movies i dont really feel the need to watch shit like Requiem or Trainspotting...and i am a hard-core movie buff believe you me...me and the wife watch a movie every night. But hey alot of people like that movie so its fine by me...i dont personally care what anyone wants to do with their life/time. Dont worry EW the scene will leave your mind...but you sound like me, i bet whenever you think about that movie IT will come to mind...i dont think it is so for everyone...but being a father and the way you described all that sounds like my take on the whole thing.
Id really like to see a good movie...and i mean AWESOME movie that is Junk related...i know Drugstore Cowboy is good but its time for another good movie...one thats not judgemental just pure opiate excellency...it will come. Peace out.

It wasn't the crawling on the ceiling. It was the way the little cherub turn it's head around slowly and stared through those souless black eye sockets as if to say "you and your fucking mates did this me ye bastard."

I was in Scotland when the film came out travelling (my British Isle Drug Tour of '96)... when the scene about the American tourist that gets the shit kicked out of him in the bathroom came on, we all thought it was hilarious, laughing too loud, until we realized a few in the audience we eyeing us... we got real quiet, looking around; no one went to piss (they serve beer there too so that was difficult) and we kept together like a pack leaving that fucking place...

Those Highlander Scot fucking sheep-shaggers can be mean motherfuckers... we did end up in a pub fight, but that's a story for another day...

I sometimes turn away when that scene comes on, and when I do watch it, it always makes me feel a little ill. The sequel is appearently in the works, where a few end up in the porn industry (Welsh is running out of ideas. If he makes a third book/movie where Renton becomes a rockstar/astronaut, I will be disapointed, but not surprised). That's not to say I didn't enjoy the film though.

Yeah, heavy but realistic(I've seen that shit)part, but positive side is that it's making most say "not me"when it comes to such a scenerio. Not enough drug scenes in it but diving in the toilet has to be one of best scenes ever.Speaking of movies-any one seen an old late 70's european flick w/david bowie coming to a concert somewhere in europe, characters all heron addicts.Dark but interesting movie, just can't remember the title, also movie w/kris kristoferson as pot dealer early 70's-good movie.

I wonder how many time they say fuck in that movie....gotta be in the 100's....

on another note i wonder of all the drug movies, if in any actual drugs were used...prolly not, but would be interesting to know....like fear and loathing, you know johnny depp has had to have tried a few of those substances, or he really is a hell of an actor.....

According to pop legend, Oliver Stone, Woody Harrelson, and Juliet Lewis were tripping on mushrooms during the filming of Natural Born Killers... the whole desert scene with the snakes, and the medicine man, and all...

In fact, the story goes that the scene where they get pulled over by the state trooper while getting fucked up was actually scripted in after Stone and Harrelson actually did get pulled over while tripping... I always thought that was funny and fitting.

As for trainspotting, i'd highly recommend the book (of short stories), which really is totally different than the movie, for anyone inclined to read. I'd also recommend watching the european version of the movie, which is more sexually graphic (for example in the scene where Rent is having the, uhh... young, girl).

that's all i got.

yeah, since i watched the movie (the last 1/4 was cut off, sadly! incomplete download i guess; I'll have to finish the DL or find a copy of the ending) I've been reading up about it, and heard about the sequel. Could make a good movie, if the same actors were employed.

LOL.

How old are you ?

Johnny Depp used to own a little place called the Viper Room. He'd hang out there and play with his band, and that age group of actors he was with would hang out there. It was notorious drug den. I'd say he tried most everything but the adrenochrome. And maybe he tried out the adrenochrome the time he did $27k damage to a hotel room...

Also, Viper Room = River Phoenix OD'd in the bathroom and then died on the sidewalk outside...

I felt the same way 1st time I saw it, My a new-ish dada too he's 2-1/2, I find though whenever I'm going into for through WD that movie, calms me down. I love that line when he slips out the back of the pub after getting let go from the court, "Only two sickly sweety doses of methadone and I've already got a layer of sweat like frost on my back."

Love it.

There was another movie Dead Calm I think it was it where in the opening sence a 2-3 yr old goes out the front windsheild of the car after a crash, I still can't watch that. I saw that when I was in my roaring days, kids were NO where on my list, but still, anything involving babies, toddlers, little kids, I gets me blood going. Oh man leave me w/ some of these child rapers and the like just 5 min is all I ask, pick on someone a little bigger why don't you. fucking waste of flesh, they should be made into good use and parted out my cars, someone can get a set of eyes, a heart transplant, liver, kidney.....no use putting in a min. cell for 2 yrs so they can get out and then rape AND KILL the little 4 yr this time, let's be PROactive about it.

Well, porno, which is what he was referring to, has actually been out for a few years. Before that was Acid House, and then Ecstacy, and there's Filth, and Glue... there are others but to my knowledge these are the ones that reference some characters from the original trainspotting... I could be wrong about a few I've only read trainspotting, acid house, ecstacy, and porno...

If you like this guy, you MUST read George Saunders, A Civilwarland In Bad Decline... Its a novella then a bunch of short stories, and its very strange, suspension of disbelief etc etc. . . very post-post-post... meta... post-irony, if you will.

They will not make a movie sequel to Trainspotting because Ewan Magregor (Renton and Obi Won Kanobi) is pissed that he was not allowed to star in that godawful movie the Beach (Di Caprio got the nod) So, Sick Boy, Begbie and Spuds are willing to shoot the sequel but Rents has his actor's ego on full no. Too bad

Ah, I was not aware of McGregor's feud with Danny Boyle. That would explain why I haven't heard anything new about this project in some time. :(

you have to read the book exit to really apperrciate it; the dialog takes some getting use to. Porno is excellent too. the ending it priceless, Begby really has the star role in Porno

but the baby is a metaphor, just like the toilet scene

...Im cooking up...

Irvine Welsh is all about his charaterrs.... you think that baby scene is fucked, try getting ahold of the Acid House... HA... babies drinking, cursing, and masterbating

its all about innocense (and losing it)

Yeh, great film. The book was even better ... just awesome. And I even caught a Scottish play taken from the book which was quite good. Oh, and some of the Trainspotting charecters also turn up in Filth. Haven't read Porno yet .... but it's on my list.
