Does anyone remember the Numorphan (oxymorphone) pills they made in the good old days. The solution was the color of a Ming vase. The high was better than Dilaudid (which in those days had no enteric coating and went right into solution) and then , of course, they changed the scene (too much abuse) and it became available only in hospital (injectable) form.

if it means anything to you, Opana and Opana ER (oxymorphone in pill form) will soon by on the market, if not already.

wow, I'd like to think I've been around a "while" but shit, I never heard of oxymorphone pills! I never even used the injection solution, but damn did I want to. I used to work in an animal hospital (in addition to a real human pharmacy, but we didn't have no numorphan injection in there!), and they had a big multi-dose bottle of Numorphan solution. Although I did "acquire" a lot of different items from the stock of this animal hospital, I never got my grubby paws on that vial of numorphan!
If oxymorphone is to hydromorphone (diluadid) as oxycodone is to hydrocodone (and there's no reason to think it's not) then it must pretty allright.
Hey, speakiin' of stuff that's not on the market no more, how about placyidyls? Not an opie, but they were fuckin nice.

Oxymorphone is excellent. Notice previous post they have now rereleased the Numorphan pills(Opana) I had a friend in Arizona who would go to Doctors/complain of kidney pain, stick his finger with a pin and drop blood into the urine sample and get an Rx for Numorphan.
Don't know what the story would be for the new Opana Rx. Hang nail, headache, toe stub ?

It's always difficult to know what to present to the good doctor as far as "the story." The best story is sometimes none. I had a long standing deal with an osteopath(in my experience a lot more liberal than MD's) who would up my Rx or change opiates based on some weird logic. He initially gave me 42 Lorcets with 4 refills. Then, oxycontin. Then oxycontin and oxy IR (fior breakthrough pain) then Fentanyl patches (since they could not be abused (HaHa) i ACTUALLY BEGAN TO WORRY HE WAS TOO GOOD. Some kind of set up or insanity. Everyone in his office was there for one thing. One day he loudly announced he had given me the last triplicate he had and the whole office erupted in complaing. I exited stage right.

Here is the PDF from Endo Pharm on Opana / Opana ER. According to what I can determine here, it has a high liver-metabloism ratio, meaning that , much like morphine, it would have poor oral bio-availability. Good for IVers, bad for non-IVers such as myself. Anyone else care to try and interpret?

Yes. The question will be what enteric coating do the new pills have ? Do they go into solution easily or do you need a lab full of chemicals, retorts and time to extract something ? Anyhow, thanks for information. I'm so old I remember when Dilaudid look like sacchrine tablets and were so soluable in water you could pull out the plunger drop in 4 Dilly's, pull up some water and shake the syringe once. The Dilaudid immediately went into solution. Then they changed the formula and everyone bought hammers and worried about build up of sludge in their heart.

Would this be a good drug to convince my Doc to switch me to from Methadone? It really doesn't help anymore.

Sure but good luck convincing. But then I do not know your doctor. The down side is that methadone is long acting as in one dose every 24 hours and Numorphan (now Opana) is shorter in duration. Opana should be equivalent to Dilaudid in analgesia.

My Doc is the shit. She already gives me 90, 30mg morphine sulphate instant release for breakthru pain. I get 360, 10mg methadone a month.

Doctors are a funny bunch. My favorite osteopath would switch me to new interesting opiates without any pressure. His idea. But then his whole presentation was a little strange. He had me on Oxycontin 40 mg, 11 a day with Oxy IR for breakthrough pain and then switched me to Fentanyl patches AND oxycontin. After a while, the druggist would not fill the prescription saying I was taking more pain medication than anyone they could remember. Funny how many qualms people have about pain medication. And the drama. The osteopath knew the score. He would insert speeches about how the DEA wanted doctors to treat pain. And read me the rules-one doctor, one pharmacy, etc. Just when you think you have it wired, they change their minds.

You gotta be kidding? I want the name of your Dr. that's GREAT! What kind of medical condition do you have?

Severe back pain. One crushed vertebrae. Lot's of angst and ennui. The guy liked to manipulate backs and write scripts. I loved opiates. I would give you the name but after me he said he wasn't taking anymore chronic pain patients. Too many calls from drugstores (Do you know how many pills you gave this guy last month ?) Nice guy but very erratic and had to pay his lawyer big time for malpractice suits ( A few people took too many and checked out for ever. Relatives decided to get even. Noone actually won the suits but he would scare me with the stories. I never knew if he would be there on my next visit. 5 years of osteoprescription.

Ahem, your condition is pretty much like mine. Most days I can't get out of bed until noon, or have dosed up at least twice.

Not fun. The bad part is the depression i get from the chronic pain. Then the doctors just want to treat the depression. Those pills do nothing for me.

I know what you mean, most of the time, I feel like life is pointless. I get so fucking sick and tired of hurting all the time, dealing with Dr's, blah, blah, blah. If it weren't for my 3 yr old son, I'd probably say fuck it and do me a big one.

Three year old son is a lot of responsibility. Your brave. I just do not understand the whole cultural drag around opiates. In Iran after dinner (when the Shah was still in power) you would have an after dinner opium pipe. No big deal. Like an after dinner coffee. Here it's doctors, the police, prescriptions, etc. And those of us with physical (and psychic) pain are dealing with it all.
Actually, I posted a few weeks ago about Opana, and how my doc is wanting to try it out. We are waiting for it to be available via pharmacy and I'll let everyone know what its like.
It sure is taking a while for it to be released though.. I saw this some time ago and have been waiting since.

Sorry I did not see your post. Opana should be a dynamite pill, if it's anything like the old Blue Endo which was better than Dilaudid (I know hard to believe) The deal will be the enteric coating. Will the stuff turn to super glue if you cook it ?

We'll see.. But the reality is that they contain so much Oxymorphone that even a slight yeild will get you high as fuck. It will be an intersting experiement. ;)
