I need some help with this one. This was a suggest I received via email and although it sounds like something I should be taking a look at, I'm not sure I can understand it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Eliminate the subforum concept. When i have to decide which group of discussions and then a specific forum for that group, and then a subforum, it's okay as your new, but often i have seen that my information desired or interest point is not able to be catagorized, or worse i think it should be one subforum and it actually is another and i have wasted time and energy. And please. anyone that has been on longterm sites such as _______ will tell you that the " search" option is just that because it often will produce 100s of off point threads. how else could you type heroin and get a thread on adderall that doesnt even have the word in it. Just my opinion, but i was irritated to have to open 3 links to see all the posts in one forum, wont do that when your 2 years in and have 5400 posts.

I've a feeling there's quite a bit of validity to this but I'm not getting it.....

Also, does anyone here use the Linear or Thread/Hyrbid modes to view messages?

I don't like how on the main page you can't see what the last post was replied to in all the subforums, just one (the one with the latest reply). I miss some posts because it takes a lot of time look through each subforum. That might sound confusing, I'm on a lot of methadone and absinthe lol.
Maybe you could make each forum it's own instead of having subforums, and merging the chemistry ones with the regular ones. Like morphine with morphine chemistry.
It's not a big complaint just a minor inconvenience. I love this board! I visit it probably more than any other site on the internet. You do a great job, that's just my 2 cents on the subforums.

Ok, that makes sense. Have you tried these two features? One is stock, the other I added myself.

Up above, on the navbar, if you click on 'New Posts' (http://forum.opiophile.org/search.php?do=getnew) it will automatically search for every new post that's been made since you've last logged in.

The one that I use the most (and my own creation,*pats on back*), is the 'Active Topics' drop-down. Right next to 'New Posts' and allows you to view all the posts made in the last 1, 2, 7, 14, or 30 days. I use this and view all posts from "today" which is really all the posts made in the last 24 hours.

Then, you can click on the 'last post' button (shown below) to head straight to the last post.

Does this help?

Also, don't forget you can Subscribe to a topic by using the 'Thread Tools' drop down when viewing a post or thread. This way you're emailed whenever a post is made to the forum. You can set this in your User Options to email whenever someone replies to one your own posts, if you'd like....

I think that at least merging the chemistry part with the regular opiate one would be a good idea, since half of them don't even have a post.

I think that at least merging the chemistry part with the regular opiate one would be a good idea, since half of them don't even have a post.i was thinking of removing a few of those and then adding some others. i'd like to expand on the chemistry portion, and i unfortunately have to keep them seperate. the chem posts are just too technical for the rest of the board....

any ideas for other forums, though?

Wouldn't it just do with three subforum's in chemistry, one each for natural and synthethics, and one for other drugs? I don't know where you would draw the line with semi synthethics though, if you should include diacetylmorphine in the first or second, or only place stuff like propoxyphene in the latter.

so you mean to expand the chemistry forums with what's currently in the 'opiate' discussion groups? or just to better organize the chemistry forums?

When I think of it it's probably best as you say to keep the chemistry section, but I think the forums should be kept down to a minimum. I guess some others input are needed.
