I'm happy to announce that we've finally found a medical professional to help moderate the Harm Reduction forum.
Candy (http://forum.opiophile.org/member.php?u=461) is a registered nurse in the state of California. She was worked in Pediatrics, in the ER, and in GI (Gastro.) She is also certified to counsel those with HIV in the State of California. For the past 5 years, she has worked in promoting Harm Reduction throughout her Community and primarily with IV drug users.
Candy has considerable knowledge and experience in working with and treating those who have tested positive for both HIV and Hepatitis C. She also has experience in Harm Reduction education. She has spent some of her time in both working and volunteering at Los Angeles Needle Exchange Programs and has also assisted the CDC in researching a Peer Education Project in Hollywood by testing IV drug users for HIV/HCV. She is a firm believer that Harm Reduction does not promote drug use and feels that education at the source of the HIV/HCV issue is the best way to go in reducing risk.
Candy also has experience in treating addiction at a personal level, as she is clean, on Methadone, and has tested positive for Hepatitis C. She has undergone Interferon / Ribaviron treatment for the virus and is currently testing at undetectable levels.
