Here is a booklet called Smoking Brown: A Guide To Chasing Street Heroin, I guess it's akind of controversial thing but obviously aiming directly at harm reduction, I have to disagree with the technique of folding the foil though, I have never seen it done that way, everyone i know who toots gear just runs it from one end to the other til they have covered all the foil...anyway I though some people might be interested in seeing this, its from my local exchange in England...
Sorry for the shitty camera-phone quality...

Hah, wow that is pretty cool. I would never think anyone would need a guide on how to smoke, but I guess so. I've seen people fold it, but I don't get why.

Awesome, citricburn. I can imagine junkies and marketing goons sitting in the R&D room coming up with this pamphlet: "NO! NO!! YOU GOTTA FOLD IT THIS WAY!"
Yeah, this is part of a policy that encourages smoking as an alternative to the needle. In fact most works exchanges now offer clean foil as well as injecting equipment.
Edit,I'm all for the leaflets(which aren't badly written),but I'm not sure about dispensing clean foil, the sad fact is,harm reduction doesn't have a bottomless budget and I really don't think handing out clean foil is an effective policy.Especially when there are many other ways works exchange could be improved.

Dunno.... Seems at least POTENTIALLY debatable... (FOR EXCHANGES IN AMERICA, AT LEAST...) Not ALL folks visiting the NX are going to be "Hard Cases" with no possibility of changing their ways... Some people, in theory, at least, are going to be going in and be open to the suggestion of at least Trying once or twice to smoke it instead, if the suggestion is accompanied by an instruction booklet and a properly sized piece of foil....
Well..... Then again, I guess that WOULD be pretty pointless in the UK... Most folks probably already know how to smoke it..... but, plenty of americans I can think of might well ask "what? you can smoke this stuff? Thats great news!"
and others, such as myself, in fact, might* ask "I know that you can smoke it... In theory, at least, but... Is it really possible to smoke it without wasting 99% of the stuff/money? If y'all (the nx people) show me how, I'll give it a shot once or twice...." (*-- though, then again, opiophile HAS showed me how, and I still haven't gotten around to trying it.... sigh....)
Come to think of it... kind of a pointless post.... Anyway, Nick is the expert when it comes to needle exchanges and so on... Well... Later, all.... at&t
[edit: ps. oh.... and as far as the expense of handing out foil and whatever goes, I don't know...
I just can't see folks going to the NX for foil more than just the first or second time trying it...... So, the only reason to give out foil would be to encourage people to give it a shot, and then go get their own roll of aluminum foil from the local grocery store.... I guess it just depends on demographics... And whether or not it provides a harm-reduction "return on investment" with the particular users the nx serves... Never mind... sorry... ]

The theory of providing a less damaging roa than injecting is perfectly sound, but the problem comes in providing clean foil and the problem is cost.
I'm suggesting there are much more effective uses of limited funds than providing clean foil. The foil used at works exchanges is a LOT more expensive than buying a roll of kitchen foil.
I'd be interested to know how much smoking Citricburn and his crew are doing now.Any of you guys stopped shooting?
You might be holding a future relic of history, man, I'd hold on to that. Probably not too many of them printed, and if drugs ever get decrim/legalized, people are gonna look back on it just like they do with prohibition memorabilia, and it could be worth some money someday.
Very interesting, hard to read at times cause of the lighting/angle, but that's alright. I'm really glad you uploaded this. I hate to be such a nitpicker, but if you want to upload it somewhere you might want to try scanning it. It's not like I'm really desperate for you to scan it, but just letting you know if you want to preserve it digitally, scanning is a good way to do that.
you can also look up how to do scanner-like photos with a camera.

Future relic of history...........yeah,right.There are thousands of these and variations out there.So.I wouldn't stick it under my mattress and consider my pension sorted if I were you

Australian has quite a few harm reduction magazines put out by exchanges and other organizations.
WHACK magazine
http://www.vivaids.org.au/whack_back.htm
Tracks magazine (can read online)
http://www.quihn.org/MediaResource.html
Users News (can read online)
http://www.nuaa.org.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=4
All written in a nice relaxed fashion, give you the facts you need and not the lecture. Some of the users stories however are fkn heartbreaking and gets you thinking twice about alot of things.

the reason I stopped diggin as much is purely because my girlfreind hates it, she tolerates it occasionally but she really dislikes seeing me do it, smoking on the other hand we do together.....all day, thats just the way she is...

Man,that's as good as reason as any for stopping shooting.Somehow,I doubt the leaflets persuade many folks to put down the needle.Still,it's great the information is out there.
Shelley ££££££££-yes we have a pound key.If you wanna see a bizarre keyboard, the one I used in Vienna had some really weird symbols.
EDIT.CB(citircburn) checkout the lifeline website,if memory serves, under publications are copies of all their stuff.

im 22 nick, most of my mates are the same age, but a lot of the older junkies round here smoke too, usually cos they find it hard to hit veins and dont want to go in the Hallam FM, The first times i had gear I injected and had a near fatal over dose on Xmas day 2007 in a flat in Manor Top in sheffield, woke up in Northen General on boxing day, that was like 3 weeks into my using career, I had another over dose about a year later which was resolved by a house call, both times due being greedy/silly with doses, this is the main reason I have stopped injecting as a main ROA, I usually get tempted to have a dig if im either running low on gear, or have got some really nice stuff thats too good for the foil :)
POSTSCRIPT: I have another exchange pamphlet somewhere called UYB (Up your Bum) and it shows you how to cook up a shot in a syringe with no pin (barrel) and squirt it up your arse :) when i find that i'll do the same..

So if you really want people to change their ROA you gotta get the GFs in on it, eh?
