i'm with cloud9s shitty smell, being sick always had this trait scent to it......i could never really pin it to anything other than an old house who's wood is rotting....

if i wait to long to dose (methadone.....like this morning) it still creeps in - i really cannot stand it. leads to the great coffee chug with high fat food trying to make the dose kick in asap.

Shit. Well along with everything smelling badly, even good smells are just so damn strong. Like for instance I will smell the laudnry detergent in my clothes like I took a bath in it.

BTW hydrochris, I hate it as well. I always know when I'm getting ready to go into it when that shit happens.

ANOTHER THING..... I get SO, what's the word, sensitive? Idk if that hits it on the head or not, lets say this, things gets very clear for me and I feel like a loser and most of the time can't believe the shit that I've been doing.

But then, of course, I get some dope and we are good.

yes, I hate it..smell of chlorine in the shower. Always reek of BO, even when others don't notice it.

I had to switch brands of cigarettes because the cheap ones are way to nasty during w/d..

just like the taste of dope on back of the tongue after a good hit the smell of withdrawl is always there the moment i wake up in those sweaty sheets.

Oh for sure chipper. I lose like 10 lbs easy in wd because I won't consume ANYTHING. I'm a wimp in wd big time that's why I am such a classic junkie, if I'm sick I will do pretty much anything to not be and anything is on the table. Sick, huh?

Yeah that brings back memories of kicking in places like jail or detox that had strong disinfectant nasty chemical smells among other unpleasant scents. Thankfully that's all been a long time ago. Actually come to think of it now I guess it isn't an issue for me because I've nearly completely lost my sense of smell after a head injury.:(
nothing worse than the smell of chlorine/pine-sol for me...however my own body generates some nastiness that competes - in addition to the sweat/bo/etc. during the night my nose goes into overdrive producing the stickiest, foulest snot imaginable, for a few hours everything smells like rotten boogers :vomit:
sorry to hear about your injury - is the loss permanent or will/can you (even partly) regain any of the sense? i am assuming your taste is gone as well:( - - - my heart truly goes out to you.

metallic mouth.....i always found the taste thing in w/d nearly identical to taste on acid - lesser/lighter withdrawal in general, too much of it reminded me of acid.......just, instead of euphoric excitement, utter horror.

Yes I definetly have noticed it and thought it was just me. I could literally smell the air conditioner in my truck and it would drive me nuts. Everything seems so enhanced, I attributed it to the dope dulling all the senses.

Yeah Harry I'm with ya on that...EVERYTHING SMELLS and badly too. I always wondered if it was just me, guess not. But I agree with ya on the dope dulling your senses. I hate it though, it sucks. And idk if you exp this too but when I'm sick, for someone to touch my skin just makes it crawl....eeewww.

I'm glad to see a thread on this topic; I've definitely wondered if this effect is universal...Not only the corpse smell that you notice on yourself, but especially the whole ultra-sensitive sense of smell/taste thing. The "wd sneezes" that I often suffer from always lead to a unique, clarified taste in the back of my nose/throat that I don't think is achievable under any other circumstances...After a few of those explosive, spit-rocketing sneezes I get the weird taste/awareness back there. Its nice to be part of a community of commiserating sufferers isn't it? Too bad it doesn't do shit in our individual worlds til ya cop a cure! :D

I was gonna make this thread a while ago. I know you guys are talking about smelling external smells but for me, during withdrawal my body releases this super pungent oily substance. My face gets super oily and my skin feels really weird. The oil is on my face, so I smell it all day.....

Even 30 min after a shower I'm back to oily all over again. Another thing, for those that smoke oxy, you get a thin layer of oc resing completely around your tongue. Something that could gag a veteran porn star.

This is pretty strange.
When I wd I smell my old room in my house I grew up in, its not a bad smell by any means, but have countless memories of me kicking in there. Started with Oxys, Morphine, Vicodin ANY Pharmie I could get my hands on at 14, and moved on to dope when I was 15-16. 20 now, and living in a different house, but I always smell that room at some point when kicking.

Essentially everything that is subdued while using is obviously amped up to incredible levels whilst experiencing withdrawals, including taste & smell - especially if you're a snorter; if that's the case, expect a big time taste & smell shift on quite a rapid scale (among many, many other things - of course).

Oh god yes, the smells! Everything just smells repugnantly... Including stuff you normally like, like food! Disgusting as hell. It might even be worse for me, since eh... This is kinda emberassing and not something I've shared with a lot of people, but I suffer from olfactory hallucinations sometimes. If I inagine a smell, sometimes I can smell it. It's weird shit and kinda hard to explain.

i would say both when you wake up after sleepin a bit and you realize you are out of dope and kicking and you are so sick all you want to do is go back to sleep but you cant . urgh. nasty:confused:

btw the smell is sometimes so intense it made me vomit. i'm very sensitive when it comes to smell in general. and at detox there were always some people who didnt shower at all and their wd sweat which smells way more disgusting than normal sweat was sometimes..unbearable to me.

oh and in wd my taste buds are very sensitive too. everytime i start to eat something my whole tongue cramps

Yeah I know, detox smell. Once I got shipped by my fam to florida (live in michigan) to a 30 day recovery center. I started goin thru wd's on the plane and once I got to the center, I was sick as hell, vomitting on my self, all that nastiness. Anyways my room mate smoked marlboro red's and a shit ton of them, like one right after the other. As soon as I walked into the room, I threw up everywhere and eventually had to change rooms. YUCK!

Thats why I try to smoke the more mild cigarettes, dono if it makes a huge diff..

The rehab center I went to didn't allow smoking, & i was thankful for this; chewed nicorette
waas fine, some people would sneak out ofcourse.. anyway they disallowed it to deal with
the smell which would be very difficult to control in a fairly crowded place

Last weekend I went thru some awful wd's. When this happens, I can smell EVERYTHING like never before. Why the hell is that? Is it just me?

Back when I sniffed I used to think it was my nose recovering and my sense of smell growing stronger but later after IV/IM I realized opiates must dull the sense of smell too.

Its sort of like a whole other world I normaly am not in that other people are, I can sometimes forget smell exists. Then in WD I am reminded of why people use deodorant when normally I am like what smells? I smell nahthin!

metallic mouth, I heard that.....I know people have heard this before, that one will; sweat out and smell like it at the same time. Im not sure why that is since one is constantly excreting it anyways, but I think its different. But when your detoxing your getting rid of shit in all different ways...sweating, coming out of your breath and I dont know about everyone else but I urinate a lot when im in withdrawal. So naturally your going to smell like shit unless your constantly in the shower which I think is hard when yur in wds. Unless your in a hot bath. Also, some people get a hightened sensetivity physical pain. And like you guys are talking about smelling shit.

Yeah, you lose heaps of water during the initial withdraw period because the opiates makes one retain water. That explains all the water in your eyes, dripping nose and sweat rolling down your back etc.

Simply proven to me when I drink 2-3 beers after recreational Methadone usage and never have to visit the Gents. All that's reversed in withdraw. Definitely the higher your dose the further you fall.

Constipation is obvious etc,, but I look as though got bad allergies/hungover after
a several day binge comes to an end & that morning it don't look right esp when
combined with 'runny face' & other early tells of on-route-to-w/d fix alt.neurochem NOW!

I had a chinese witch doctor who could tell state of my health through the colour
of my tongue, and the presence of nastyness on it (thrash i think its called)..

The gross coating would change colour/texture from time to time & was a map
he couild read in hisw own way.. i think much of this was d/r dry mouth & that buildup
I believe is dead bacteria & such.. unsure the direct parallel to opiate use though.

As i went on some detox meds & acupuncutre sessions with this duude the nasty
-ness slowley went away & i havent really noticed much of it since i relapsed..
maybe it was just the poor quality dope we got back then.. oddness

okay..does anyone ever suffer from this..
and its been happening quite often to me lately

say you've been rattling for like 3 or 4 days and you finally manage to scrape enough money together to score something
well as soon as i throw the bag on the spoon and start to cook-up i just get a whiff of the gear in the steam from the spoon and i retch immediately, and then as i start to push it in and get the (normally) most pleasurable taste/smell hit the back of my throat. well just lately as soon as i get the back of the throat taste i almost puke straight away.
its just the strength of the taste is SO over-powering i nearly projectile vomit.
and when you are only half-way through pushing it up your arm the last thing you need is your body going into a spasm trying to stop yourself being sick!

i wish i could stop my body having these stupid knee-jerk reactions and i think its because ive not been doing gear as much lately and i really do taste it if ive not had anything for 3 or 4 days
but it has turned what used to be the most pleasurable(when you are injecting and it hits the back of your throat) taste into a bit of a dread, hoping i aint gonna puke and ruin that lovely rush..

oh im sure the solution to my gag reflex is to just start hammering the smack again mate, full-bore. but i went thru 3 months of rehab a few months back and i have cut (and kept!) my habit down to 2 maybe 3 bags a week now which im well proud of.

i know exactly what you are on about though bro.
when i used to be a raver in the late 80's/early 90's i used to LOVE the taste of 'phet.
i did get myself a bit of an amphetamine habit for a couple of yrs and even though all my mates used to say i was insane for liking the taste of speed i loved it so much id nearly get a hard-on from just a sniff of it. lol.

now-a-days though i swear, just thinking about THAT chemically amphatamine taste physically turns my stomach and if i concentrate hard on remembering the foul taste/smell i could make myself sick on demand.

i used to experience the same type of thing sim.

when i was using i was a snorter, and if i was kicking for a few days & than was finally able to score just as i was rackin up a line of oxy or whatever to snort as soon as it went up the nose and i tasted the drip i had to fight the urge to puke, when normally i loved the taste of the drip...its the whole heightened senses and everything pyshical is x100 in w/d

this is why i am soo happy i got onto suboxone, i fuckin hated w/d and when i would get it i would still have to go to work and coach basketball & baseball and have some family function, my family is always gettin together so it was inevitable everytime i got sick i had a dinner to go to or a party or a vacation.

my life has become so much greater and filled with such purpose since i got on suboxone, i wake up every day with a smile on my face and the trust is back with my family and i have a shitload of money saved up because im not spending 500+ bucks a week on opies, and i have only been on subs since july 16th.

my parents asked me the other day how long do i see myself on subs, and i said as long as my life is going the way it has been going. than my dad said is there a point when i might think i can try and ween off and see if i can do without, and i said that its only been 4 months, im trying to take it 1 day at a time, but honestly i dont care if im on them for a long long time because i am DEATHLY AFRAID of the temptation coming back. shit i have done numerous cold turkey kicks before but the craving and temptation was too great and no matter how hard i fought it, i always gave in, well fuck that not anymore. the subs give my a energetic lift and dare i say a mild body buzz....when i take my sub i really do feel a mild opie buzz that lasts all day.

im telling u this was the best decision i have ever made.

For 3 or 4 days in WD, all I can smell is a faint burnt - rotted smell. Like being in a crawl space of something with a moldy smell.

I hate it.

i can't sleep......i've wonderful memories to add to all the talk of vomit -

cottons........yeah yeah we all know the dangers - but for those of us who did/do this......the smell of double boiled cottons (at least cig filters) heated in a spoon, when really sick - fucking hell.....it was a cross between the horrible way your mouth waters before you get sick, and something resembling drool begging for the possibility of a little relief.

then shooting that shit - the smell of them in the spoon, hits your throat in a horrible way like crappy sleeping pills that shouldn't be shot - that has actually made me puke.

there wasn't much i wouldn't do to try and keep from getting sick.

the feel of a hot syringe after you've been sick with nothing after few days - grabbing it in your fist or rolling it back and forth to cool it quicker - everytime i dose too late, and chivers start running up my spine, that's all i think of, still, after more than a half decade of not...

The worst for me is having an ashtray on my bedside table. Makes me gag every time I smell it. As for the smell that you sweat out, other people can smell it too. My brother asked me about it one time when we were in his car and I was sick, and I have smelled it on others who were in wd.

It isn't just you. Opiates must do SOMETHING to dull the sense of smell. I used to think, back when I railed dope, that it was your nose finally saying "alright now that you haven't put all this shit in me for a while I can work again."

I really do not know scientifically what's going on but that's my best guess.

Reminds me of the smell of shooting up. When you shoot up, does anyone here get a strange smell, very strong, from inside the nose rather than outside (internally, as opposed to externally, if that makes any sense) as the rush comes on? The best I can describe it as is sort of really dank, dark smell, almost like coffee, but not quite. Anyone else experience this, especially with brown dope in the UK?

As for withdrawal, usually my sense of smell gets worse as my nose starts to run, and then block up, but certain smells really irritate me, such as perfume or deodorant, especially when I'm in bed kicking.

when I was sick with Hep B.....and living in an apartment that was abandoned by my other roommates...probably the lowest time in my life......
I had a constant smell and taste going that was just sickening.

the comments about jail/institution and kicking bring back some bad memorys.

man.

especially with heroin abuse....my step father noticed very strange smells about me.....the guy has a bloodhound nose....he could smell if I was using.....and he could smell if I was kicking...it took him a few years of us trying home kick cure treatments from time to time to realize what was going on.

Yeah, one of the worst parts for me is the hot n cold flashes. The cold I can deal with, but when I get hot and start sweating....UGH!!!!!!!

And aside from the smells being magnified....how about emotional feelings? Anyone else, like, myself, start to feel REALLY bad about shit while in withdrawal?

This thread is a great example of why this site is so damn
great... Where else could you exchange notes about such an
obscure but at the same time relevant topic?

This thread brings back come crazy memories from when I was
going to NA. This one group had about five ladies that almost made
a game out of busting newcomers that had a problem
with admiting when they had a relapse. I mean everyones sense of
smell would ramp up to the point that it was obvious when someone
was using. These women would not be really unkind about it, but they
could guess the type of drug or alcohol that the poor person fell off the
wagon with to a remarkable degree! If the whole NA thing was not so
damn serious, ( NA Nazis and such ) it can have a very funny aspect
to it!

To all 12 steppers I apoligize if these remarks are insensitive. Although
I myself do not adhere to all the tenents, I do know that for many folks
these 12 step groups are lifesavers.

the sinus draining (coupled with the mood drop) is like the first warning sign, plus these almost rock-hard pellets drop down into my mouth an i havent snorted shit in a loong time.

my little efficiency smells like a musty death trap when the sick starts creeping on, not to mention my own body but then water feels so DISGUSTING on your skin, ugh. i can remember the exact 'water pain' to a t, i hate it so much even if the heat helps the legs.

i only got the bloating/water retention when i was in high school, before i ever had a habit, dont understand that at all. once i got on fent/done proper everyday, i lost so much weight and any excess 'puff' round my face disappeared. i re-bloat and look and feel awful de-toxing, for real. my eyes go chinky and droop, everything's puffy, its a bad look.

As for the emotional side of wd, I will cry at the drop of a hat at tv shows or something I'm reading. Normally I'm nothing like this, I have seen some pretty horrible shit in my life that never effected me, maybe later, but not at the time. But in wd I'll cry at anything remotely sad.

I will cry and get chills at anything while in WD. But I've never interpreted them as bad, I always kind of revel in being able to actually feel shit so strongly (emotionally) that it causes a ridiculous physical response (crying, the deepest chills I've ever had, etc). It gives me hope that if I give it enough time I'm going to have the same strength of feelings towards positive things. Surely, right?

Oh and @ 22 days since my last dose I smell like fucking shit. lol. I don't know how I'm going to go sit in a class room and not just sweat my ass off and smell like shit. Eh, what can ya do? Maybe I can take just one suboxone.........ha, fuck that.
