A former opiate lover who doesn't like benzos? What the fuck, right?

So I'm 25 years old, and have amassed 8 years of opiate addiction under my belt. Recently got clean, but after 8 years of heavy, steady opiate abuse, the PAWS was killing me.

I got my state funded medicaid, and although I never really believed in therapy/psychiatry, I decided it couldn't hurt, plus it was free. My psychiatrist prescribed me an SSRI, as well as 1mg Klonopins. Although I will admit the klonopin helps my horrid insomnia due to both obsessive thoughts and restless leg syndrome, other than that...I think I can say I don't like, maybe even hate, benzos.

I never understood why most opiate users loved mixing opiates with benzos. Me personally, I hated the nod. The reason I loved opiates so much, was the fact they lifted my spirits, made me social, gave me motivation and determination, not to mention I could work circles around everyone at any of my previous jobs while high. Opiates almost gave me an "upper" high to an extent. I'd still be relaxed as all hell, but if things needed to get done, they got done fast and efficiently. Not to mention it was nice to be able to have sex for as long as I wanted, or until I wore out the girl I was with. ^_^

Benzos always made me feel like I had the thrown off, wobbly equilibrium you get after a few brews, but without the happy, uplifted spirits that I get from alcohol. I never once thought of any benzo as being euphoric. I'd actually say I enjoy Diphenhydramine over benzos, but without opiates, they make me twitchy as hell.

Both my sister and brother were big into the opiate/benzo combo, and after seeing them fucked up so many times, why bother? They basically sleep through their high. I don't see how that's enjoyable in a recreational sense. Shit, my sister has technically been dead 5 times now from the opiate/benzo combo. (Funny little side not: Each time they revived her with the narcan shot, she immediately woke up and screamed "YOU'RE RUINING MY BUZZ!")

I know not everyone likes benzos, but from reading through opiophile, personal accounts from others, etc., it seems like I'm in the extreme minority here.

No real question I'm asking, just trying to start some conversation. Ever since getting clean, my life has been about just trying to kill time until the PAWS hopefully rids itself from me.

For a lot of people, it starts like that too, looking for that motivational boost....but over time, opiates drag a lot of people down, and motivation isn't really every weathered junkie's greatest ambition.

not a fan either. the only thing theyre good for to me is coming down off coke but i hardly do that anymore. i would never mix them with opiates, dont want them clouding up my high.

theyre also ok for selling to get money to buy real drugs

When I had surgery last year, my doctor instructed me to take a xanax the night before since I was a nervous trainwreck about it. I HATED the feeling. I felt just oddly disconnected and totally out of control. Needless to say, I'm not a fan at all. Tried taking it one more time because I stupidly expected a different result, but no, it still sucked.

Heh, that's what I was planning on doing, but then I remembered I lost contact with the few people I knew who actually liked benzos. Was gonna save up money and buy a guitar, since I pawned my 5 other guitars for dope 2 years ago. >_>

Spot on. I definitely stuck with the opiates for a while for that exact reasons. And, slowly but surely, that extra boost of motivation fades away, and you absolutely can't get SHIT done without a high dose of opiates. While in the middle of a habit, a normal size shot would just get me to the "normal position", and I wouldn't really be motivated anymore.....ya know?

-To the OP: Add another notch to the "benzo disliker" category. I use them to come off of IV coke, but that's about it. I have tried taking them (all different kinds) by themselves and with other drugs, and I give them a big thumbs down all around.

I have fairly severe anxiety. I've only ever taken two benzos, both prescribed; alprazolam and clonazepam. I've taken both on many occasions, at low and moderately high doses. I enjoy xanax, because it made me feel "normal," and dislike kpin because it does little at low doses and makes me hung over at anxiolytic doses. I don't understand how people get into "abusing" benzos. Well, I guess I do, but they're not fun for me.

Guys I didn't want to start a thread on this but I wanted people to know that their are definetly some fake Xanax bars out there.

They are made to look EXACTLY like Sandoz brand 2 mg xan. I got took on a trade. After guy left I put one in my mouth and it tasted like perfume. You could barely taste anything. It burned a little--like if ever left a penergen on your tongue for a minute. I took 2 mg to make sure and felt nothing. No head chage at all.

The imprint is GG 249. This is a very good press somebodies using to make the pills. There is very little difference There are a few links (pharmer.org) where they talk about them. They say they are coming from Florida and Overseas and may contain Phenazepam but I felt like it was a more sedative type drug.Ok. Just a heads up if you do xan and you buying some Sandoz brand, taste one before you buy in bulk. I got lucky, I had some Klonopin coming so I only traded 2 and half. I don't wanna see anybody get taken. So watch out guys. They say these fake bars are spreading like a bad case of the clap.

I've been rx'd benzo's for 5+ years and just realized that I don't really like them either UNLESS i'm having real anxiety. They don't even put me to sleep anymore. The other night I took 4mg's of kpin then stared at the ceiling for 3-4 hours before remembering I had some Original formula Dramamine that makes you drowsy. I took one of those and was out in 30 minutes. I wish I could get some Promethazine to use for sleep to save my benzo's for when I really need them.


For legit anxiety though, nothing is better than benzo's. And I'll admit that i abused them back in the day when anxiety was ruining my life, but I was just happy to feel normal again. I eventually just kinda grew out of the anxiety and taking the benzo's. I never said "I'm quitting these things" and never had any WD's from benzo's except a little insomnia. I just quit taking them unless I needed them.

But benzo+MJ=good time for me. I really only enjoy them together, not by themselves. Weed can make me paranoid and anxious. Benzo's make me kinda emotionally numb/bored. But put them together and you'll have a great night no matter what you're doing, and you'll really enjoy your food

I'll burn thru girlfriends, take stupid risks, but I love instruments, selling them would've been a step too far for me.

Get yourself a new guitar, or two and let playing ease your PAWS. If you're like most players, you will get a nice feeling just from playing again!

Oh, about benzos,

I've used them to help me sleep a long time ago, but really don't like using them to augment an opi buzzz.

Likewise, I don't like using ANY other drug while on opies, I prefer a good clean opi buzz: benzos, alcohol, MJ etc..., just detract from the experience for me.

Like others, if I'm having trouble sleeping, a good short-acting benzo will help (after a coke-evening, or even after using opiates--which tend to keep me awake for days unless I hit the benzos).

Every once in a while I'll go to Guitar Center and just jam a bit in the acoustic room. After not playing regularly for 2 years, it's amazing how much rust I've built up. =P It sucks even worse, because I'm a lefty, and my Fender American Standard strat was my baby. Even my Mexican strat. Then if I was feelin funky, I'd break out my Lotus bass of Squire P bass special. Mellow mood...shitty Ibanex acoustic from eBay. Occasionally, Guitar Center won't even have a lefty acoustic, and I hate jamming on a big amp especially since I pretty much suck now. heh

I have to say, pawning over $4000 worth of gear for $320 is, and will probably be my biggest all time regret. I loved playing, creating, and enjoying music so much. Playing for an hour or 2 would always get me in a fantastic mood.

I dont like synthetic benzos. Fuck forgetting what your doing while your doing it. Although some of the recently released to the public plant derived benzodiazepines are very very nice. Tilia spp.(linden) and Erythrina spp.(mulungu) both come to mind :)

I've said it many times before, if only the US would allow OTC Codeine purchases like Canada does, people wouldn't be forced to do unfortunate crap to get their buzz on.

Yes, codeine is weak--esp. in the OTC prep, but fuck, that's what the cold water extraction is good for. I cannot speak for anyone but me, but when I have OTC codeine available to me, I don't give two shits about needles, or stronger opiates.

From over here, we would assume (Many Europeans would, I think) that if the US isn't capable or willing to ensure 100% healthcare for its people, that at the very fucking least, they would allow OTC opiates.

What the US is doing to you guys is completely fucked-up:
--Sorry you cannot see the doctor without insurance.
--Sorry, no codeine without a (legit) script.

I could go on, but doing so tends to make people feel bad about being trapped in the Great Puritanical "land of the free!!" (MF waves flags, yelling "Whoo hoo, I'm so free to do what you tell me!!")

I think for alot of people including me Opiate addiction makes you hate all other drugs, like I used to LOVE benzos and pot but when I started doing opiates my use of all other things kinda just stopped and whenever I try to smoke or take some benzos I regret doing it like I'll be sittin there hoping it goes away. I used to smoke weed like 15 times a day and I loved it now I get all paranoid and so stupidly stoned that I feel like when I talk to people I am embarrassing myself and I get really really uncomfortable I think its because I don't do either anymore so when I do I get super stoned or really barred.

i have heard of these going around as well. circulating in quite a few states but definitely originating in miami.
