Pretty good, down to earth story, like mine, except different country, and different ending...and up to date on one trial, in that country.

Good article.

Gives the sense that heroin maintenance is not the junky shangrila that some think it is. It is enough to maintain a life though. Especially for those who detoxing, methadone, bupe etc have failed repeatedly.

Oh wow!!! A heroin user that doesn't rob everyone he comes in contact with!!! Who the hell ever heard of such a preposterous thing?

Great read duckfeet...thanks man. That really helped to humanize the issue for me....before I was looking at it clinically, and now it's a lot easier to see it in a personal/social context as well.

A very good read about a COMMON SENSE approach to a medical problem.

I'm a yank, and always will be, but the mindset of many Americans--esp. politicians--just reaffirms the overall ignorance of my homeland.

I'm taking bets:

1- Year when OTC codeine will be available again in the US (any US State)-- MF's call: 2075.

2- Year when Heroin maintainence will be available in the US (any US State)--MF's call: 2175.

Prolly won't be around to collect, but it can be a gentlemen's bet, for the record.

Good artical, good story...wish it was longer. This reminds me of my Uncle who started doing Heroin (among other things, his friends called him "Iron Arm" and not because he liften weights) back in the early 70's in Detroit. He was a member of the Highwaymen MC and has some great stories, he's one of those guys you can sit around the garage with for 5 hours and just drink and smoke and listen to. He is currently in Prison in Florida, but maybe I can teach his old ass how to use a computer when he gets out. Har!

hey rifraf.....
that would be an interesting thing to hear more from some old schoolers...

he could post by sending you letters in which he talks about fictional scenarios that he is working on when he gets out and enters into creative writing for part of his vocational rehab....
and then you could enter the storys onto the website using your account.

Heh, "fictional scenarios". He's done his time for most of his crimes, he has never been much of a smooth man, so I don't think he would mind writing non-fiction from his past. But yea, sounds like a good idea. He is out in December so I'm writing him once more then he's coming to stay with me in March, we'll see what I can do.
