Not much info out on this one yet. It premieres April 18th on HBO and is billed as another installment of America Undercover.

From what I can tell, it deals with more of the 'jail and treatment' aspects of abuse (much of where 'Dope Sick Love' left off.)

From HBO.com: (http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/rehab/)
Camp Recovery, located in the coastal town of Santa Cruz, Cal., features a mix of new and long-term addicts, most of whom stay for 30 days (the maximum allowed by most insurance companies).

REHAB chronicles their experiences in the center and follows them out into the less-supervised, far more dangerous, "real" world, riding the emotional tidal waves that accompany incremental progress and devastating relapses. The film offers a rare insider's look at the ups and downs of each addict's journey to stay clean.

The stay at Camp Recovery begins with an eye-opening and prophetic welcoming speech from director Karla Leggett, a onetime addict who has been clean for ten years. "A year from now, two of you will be dead," she says. "Four of you will be clean. Eight of you will come back and forth a couple of times, maybe. Some of you will be homeless, some of you will be divorced, no jobs. For those people who made the choice to stay clean, your life one year from today will be magic."

REHAB's subjects include: Brannon, a 23-year-old heroin addict who has experimented with alcohol and drugs for more than a decade, whose alcoholic father died in the last year; Tiffani, a 21-year-old heroin addict who was once a Girl Scout; Anitra, a 20-year-old methamphetamine addict who says she was never able to meet her father's high expectations; Josh, a 20-year-old cocaine addict who has been warned that his next drug offense may land him in jail; and Ally, a 22-year-old who "met" heroin as an art student in San Francisco.

Though the habits of these addicts vary - from alcohol and cocaine to crystal meth and heroin - they share the difficult challenge of getting and staying clean at the rehab facility, despite a concerned and supportive staff that includes several former addicts. As Tiffani, who first tried heroin at 16, explains, "I'm afraid to be clean. I don't know how."

Captured in heartbreaking one-on-one and group sessions, all five try to beat the daunting odds cited by Leggett. The documentary follows the five on and off over the two years following their stints in rehab as they fight, and often lose, the battle for recovery. Though Leggett's gloomy forecast proves not far from the mark, at least one stays clean. Recovery will be a lifelong journey for all of them.
REHAB was produced and directed by Steven Okazaki; edited by Geof Bartz; associate producer/sound recordist, Marissa Aroy; original music by Simon Gentry. For HBO: senior producer, Lisa Heller; executive producer, Sheila Nevins.

I saw this film last night - pretty good. Just interesting as hell to see how much the same it is, no matter where you go. Anyone else catch it?

Is it curiosity of what someone else does in thier addiction that makes films like this so attractive or is it sympathy ? I liked the fact that there was alot of interaction between the subjects and the camera but it still seemed like" Heroin High School" to me.Granted most of them were just aroung twenty.Alot of it made me laugh .Scuttering around rehab "oh shit I'M KNOCKED UP!" and whatnot. It just reminded me of a facility I was a "member " of in Pennsylvania. It still had some of the harsh reality seasoning in it but I'll be hard pressed to say it comes close to dope sick love.

Funny, you don't really see heroin addicts over the age of around 27 (I wonder what that's all about?;))

I've had few friends myself that managed to keep it together much longer than a few years. They either die, wind up in prison, quit, or switch to something else. Seldom did I run into some older junky that had been going for more than 5 years straight. Once in awhile, I'd meet someone who had been going for 20 years, but I think that takes a certain kind of person, and one that's able to generate a junky income enough to both live and support their habit without having to do too much robbing and stealing.... T

There are a couple of long-timers on the board, and another on junkylife. I wonder what they have to say?

I never asked how he pulls it off.I cant help but wonder what the secret is.Its like lifeblood for those chosen few and I assume if they tried to stop, so would life for them. Having a habit such as this isnt a lifestyle anymore its just been itregrated like breakfast.I.E. the"junky lifestyle".You dont have to chase it all over town like some of us do.I soppose its like the prescription H trials in canada.Once your fix is set, you can focus on the things that are normal by societys standards and maintain a life of your own.Alot of the message rehabs that I have been to try to get across is the substitution of a healthier addiction for the previous one.It works for some people but I'm not about to be a N.A. junky or spiritual addict as I've seen.Just as I was viewing in another thread , you fall off the wagon and you end up hating yourself for it . The whole thing in my opinion is set up for failure and self-loathing.I'll try to find a way to ask my friend how he has managed to shoot dope for over twentty years and keep his shit not only all in one sock but stay ontop of it as well.

bi11i haha u funnie:p hey guys the reason you dont see too many old junkies/addict's like me in rehab's is cause we been there done that.and i refuse to be treated like some sub-human by those bastards not all are but you know what i mean some nurses are straight outta one flew over the cuckoos nest and a little history about myself and you'll see why i came back to edit this cause it started to burn me up thinkin about being what was said .
true you dont see too many old junkies and i dont consider myself a junkie but an functional addict i'm 45 yr's old been using since 1984 hmmmmm think cmon thats right 21 frickin yrs of self medication .now ive been to half a dozen in - patients ive cold turkeyed a couple a dozen times but it all comes down to the fact that i choose to use heroin,it's my drug of choice. i gave up most all other legal high's[alcohol] i hardly ever do blow smoke or sniff, now that'll keep you from gettin old speedballin wheeeewwwww hewwwwwwww. and smoke tree when ever i have some extra cash, now that shit is expensive bc budd hydro purplehaze hey ill tellya what that smoke will do more for ya then some bag's will.
oh so where was i oh yeah another reason u don't see to many older folk is cause we got the knowhow and the connection's so as not to have to cop off the street corner off some pitcher who's in love with your wallets, and we got the meth scrip's/sources so what can i say .we got good/better at it.practice makes perfect i don't know ... i'm tired i just shot my load on this rant and all ican say is wait and youll know whut i meen:mad: ;)
and one more thing, ive never stole from nor hurt anyone but myself i've lost some stuff but,i get up goto work everyday when there is work and try not to get into any trouble or sweat the small stuff !!!!!!!!!!!! peace:rolleyes:
