It's Not True That Corrupt Presidents-For-Life Are the Only People Who Don't Like Family Guy, But...
Tim Cavanaugh (http://www.reason.com/contrib/hitandrun/131.html) | September 29, 2009, 7:25pm
...it is true that Hugo Chavez doesn't like The Family Guy. Charlie Devereux reports (http://www.globalpost.com/notebook/venezuela/090922/stewie-griffin-promotes-drug-use-the-us-government-says-venezuela):
Venezuelan state TV today broadcast an excerpt from "Family Guy" as an example of how the U.S. promotes drug use. The clip features Stewie, the matricide-obsessed infant son of Peter and Lois Griffin, singing a song extolling the virtues of smoking weed.
"We can observe how [the U.S. government] promotes and incites the population to consume that drug there," said Tarek El Aissaimi, Venezuela's Interior Minister. "There's no subliminal message. It's an animated cartoon where you can observe perfectly how they promote consumption and moreover they foster the legalization of marijuana."
Since I don't know what the bracketed "the U.S. government" replaces, I can't be sure El Aissaimi is accusing the government of promoting pot, but I can see how an outside observer -- particularly one whose own understanding of the concept of independent media is not strong (http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,4700415,00.html) -- might get the impression that the broadcast networks take their orders directly from Uncle Sam. El Assaimi is reacting (http://en.mercopress.com/2009/07/22/venezuela-reacts-angrily-to-us-report-on-cocaine-smuggling-and-corruption) to a July 20 GAO report (http://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-09-806) accusing Venezuela of opposing the United States in the global war on some drugs.
Full piece, with a clip of the musical number, here (http://www.globalpost.com/notebook/venezuela/090922/stewie-griffin-promotes-drug-use-the-us-government-says-venezuela).
Update: Thanks to commenter Jonas for correcting my Fox pas of giving Family Guy an article.

Hugo Chavez isnt communist.
that quote is by his interior minister and not the president himself.
I agree that family guy can be fucking hilarious.
Bigtime kudos to Hugo Chavez for not conceding to the Bush regime on a plethora of political issues.

I dont think so.
the government of Venezuela is a social democracy.
Granted that a lot of his rhetoric is socialist and resembles communist ideologies, but the fact remains, the government is democratic.

^^Quite the leap. Chavez is a dictator (http://www.economist.com/displaystory.cfm?story_id=13145105) and a thug (http://worldpolicy.org/wordpress/2009/04/22/peter-wilson-chavezs-crackdown-makes-us-venezuelan-thaw-more-difficult/). Nothing more, nothing less.
But when you have that much oil, you can talk all sorts of shit. Just ask Ahmadinejad (http://money.cnn.com/2009/09/30/news/international/Iran_oil/?postversion=2009093007)

A year and 0.5 ago I had a trip to Russia (Moskva & Sanktpeterburg) and watching TV in the hotel room, there was a Russian politician condeming Family Guy: asking the Russian TV station(s) not to aire it.
I think it was because he was worried it would corrupt the youth of Russia with its lack of morality.
I've seen the english/american versions, and it is funny, but damn, some of the gags are just crude as anything I've ever seen/ heard of. Some literally took my breath away: I cannot fucking believe they went there!
" And now I play the waiting game...."
"I though if I shook him hard enough, he'd stop crying..., well, it kind of worked though."
How does shit like that get past US sensors?

thats what I cant understand nick.
Just because someone leans to the left and has socialist ideologies doesnt necessarily mean they're communist.
Chavez is a socialist, not a communist, and there is a difference between socialism and communism.

I think Bill Hicks said it best Shelley:
"It's just a handful of people that run everything, and that's provable.... I have this feeling that whoever's elected president, like Clinton was, no matter what promises you make on the campaign trail - blah, blah, blah - when you win, you go into this smoky room with the twelve industrialist, capitalist scumfucks that got you in there, and this little screen comes down... and it's a shot of the Kennedy assassination from an angle you've never seen before, which looks suspiciously off the grassy knoll.... And then the screen comes up, the lights come on, and they say to the new president, 'Any questions?'
"...Just what my agenda is."

Lenin used the term socialism to describe the transitional phase between capitalism and communism. it is essentially the road to communism. socialism doesn't work either, apparently we are damned to repeat the economic mistakes of the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany.

Yeah thats a fair point, but as long as the governement is democratically elected the full transition to communism wont occur.

actually the DPRK is "officially" a socialist republic. I don't think any country has been able to make the transition into real communism because socialism just doesn't work. even the Soviet Union was constitutionally socialist even though the "communist" party was in charge, kind of like how the communist party is in charge of China's mixed market socialist state. its funny to think that even the Chinese communists have a free market wing of the party now, hilarious! the Soviet Union went under because they ran out of money and went bankrupt, that is the road the US is currently taking, bankruptcy.
