Hey guys I went to doctors this week for blood test, he called and said everything was normal sugar, cholesteral 198. Anyhow my legs and feet swelled Thursday my right so bad it hurt. I drank four beers with ten roxi's and four soma's that day and ate alot of salt, chips an pretzels. It went down a little but again it occured this morning then went down a little just the right foot now. Mom thinks its the salt I wondered has it happened to anyone. Im 5-11 185lbs in good shape besides my cp in designated spots, knees, neck, lower back. Any ideas, I'd like to avoid it happening again, but hate to ask the doc and have my opi's taken away. Thanks ahead of time.

To the OP,

Look up edema.........

Morphine used to make my legs swell
when I took massive amounts...

Take care. If you push your heart to hard it will talk back to you!

Peace

Definately sounds like edema if I eat too much salt it happens to me aswell. To counter act the swelling my doc put me on diovan hct since I was already taking diocan for high blood pressure. Check out the drug HCTZ as it works wonders on edema.

Sorry Shadow that your having issue's with swelling, I can sympathize with you but unfortunately mines permanent.

Avoid Sodium when you can (like others have mentioned). Drink as much water as you can and try to avoid Soda for just a few days. If you are unable to avoid the soda try and cut back until some of the swelling subsides. Also some medication causes swelling like others have said morphine and I believe methadone also causes water retention.

Elevate your feet so you can start reducing some of the swelling. If your swelling continues then you need to let your doctor know and let them be the one to decide if they will prescribe a diuretic. If they do prescribe you a diuretic stay close to a bath room. Also weigh yourself now and when the swelling subsides weigh yourself again so you know approximately how much water retention you had.

And if your edema has formed in what is called pitting edema (you press your finger into the tissue on the leg and when you remove there is still an indentation) you should inform your doctor that it is pitting edema. I doubt yours is that serious but it is something to watch out for.

When you say your right leg hurt was it a deep pain? If it continues to hurt please don't try and wait for it to stop. If the pain is that bad and the swelling is still there then please get it checked out and they can preform an ultrasound on your leg and rule out any thrombosis. It is better to be safe then sorry when it comes to that but you are the only one that can judge if the swelling is that bad and it is accompanied by pain.

Hope you feel better soon.

Crap it is the pitting type and when I went to the docs my weight had skyrocketed from normaly 183-185 to 192 and it had gone down so I assumed the doc scale was off cause mines digital.

I never drink soda but am a water drinker as well as beer but no beer today and as I said its gone down. I read about the lungs but, breathing for the doctor he said it sounds good and my blood pressure was 122 over 74.

It said potassium would help the swelling so I'm gonna go get some sources, I do have dandelion outside, may make a salad thanks guys. Sorry for your condition WCP, THE PAIN WAS WHEN i STRETCHED MY FEET OUT, shit or bent them the other way.

I have noticed my breathing has become shallow so I'm gonna do an exercise where I blow out all my air and hold my breath a few times, it greatly increases my lung capacity. Thanks guys for the reading info and everything else, you guys really are lifesavers, truly.

Just checked weight its 197 I have never been that high.

I get swelling like this a lot also,
BUT how is your HEART - Did your Doctor every throughly check heart valves etc.
Reason is they call the bottom of legs , your "second heart" and can be showing signs a a early stage condition.

I used to get swelled up badly whenever I was partaking in the poppies lovely tea.

Sitting for prolonged periods of time was my cause. Back then I'd sit at the computer and be nodding off and on all night long. When I finally did sleep, I put a pillow under my feet to elevate and by morning the swelling would almost be completely gone. Had some major man-cankles at times tho... wtf.
