I got surgery and I went in there in withdrawal because I couldn't get pain meds filled in time. During surgery they didn't give me shit, and apparently I had thrown up during my procedure and they couldn't understand why I was sweating and squirming and freaking out so much. Well at this point my procedure was four hours and I had to piss hours into the surgery but I figured it wasn't a big deal. I woke up, miserable, having to piss REALLY bad and in miserable withdrawal. Long story short one hour after waking up from surgery I got catheterized, no pain meds, three days in 300mg of oxycodone withdrawal and a bag or two of H. The hypersensitivity was awful. For the next three days I could take just enough opiates to keep me out of withdrawal because I didn't want to have to get recathertized from the combination of opiates and anesthesia wearing off. The pins, needles, and burning sensation everytime I pissed (15-20 times a day to avoid back up) was just as bad.

Worst fucking day of my life. It sadly wasn't that long ago. It took me a while to start peeing again in the toilet because I would get anxiety everytime I tried to pee standing up. Never again :(

Yikes! Sounds awful indeed.
I'm probably a freak, but I actually enjoyed my catheter. :o Granted, I wasn't in w/d, I'm not a guy, and I was having a c-section, but it was nice to just lay in bed and not have to get up to go pee, lol.

Why the inadequate management of your pain? Since they knew you were an opiate user?
Sorry if you've already explained but this is just plain out BULLSHIT for you to go through this.
Shit, it sounds awful. I'd never pee again. Sorry for your f'd-up experience.

Apparently them giving me 250mics of fentanyl every 15-20 minutes during surgery was plenty of pain control. When I came out of I was feeling a little better, but then I started detoxing the fentanyl which is more hell than any opiate there is imo. They gave me 5mg of IM valium after they took OUT the catheter.
It wasn't too bad being in, just going in and out and the pissing of needles and fire for days after. not to mention the anxiety that I was going to have to get cathed again because I was taking low doses of opiates to stay out of withdrawal because I feared if I took too many opiates with the meds still in my system I could get rebacked up.

I guess now I am suppose to ask to be cathetered and removed any time I get fully knocked out That's not a big deal at all, but what really sucks is the burning/pins/needles each piss. I also piss ten times a day because I am so paranoid I am going to get backed up because it hurts to pee (makes no sense), so I experience burn/itch/pins/didIsayburn 10 times a day UGH. The worst part is everytime I pee, I have to go in the bathtub because it's the only thing relaxing and soothing enough I guess.
Sorry for the repeated rant/rave. I am still coping with side effects from this entire miserable incident emotionally with a tad bit physical implications that still haunt me today.
Thanks for listening tome bitch and moan.

Dude I feel for you. I helped my uncle out after he had prostate surgery, and he had a really tough time with the catheter/pissing afterwards. By the way, what kind of surgery was it?

Are you saying you're still experiencing the burning? I don't know how it is for men, but for me, that and having to pee every 30 seconds, even if it is just a drop, means a urinary tract infection. That's nothing you want to let go, because it can soon travel on and become a bladder or kidney infection.
Having been catheterized, there's a great chance you may have one. My dad had to be cathed every day towards the end of him being mobile and UTIs were a constant for him, now matter how incredibly clean we tried to be.
If you're experiencing pain when peeing, buy an OTC med called Azo. It will turn your urine screaming fluorescent orange, so don't be alarmed. The tiniest drip of pee will also stain your underwear. Don't suppose you'd wear a panty liner like I do while on Azo, huh? ;) Anyway, the Azo takes away the intense stinging until you can get yourself some antibiotics. You NEED antibiotics if this is what you have. Pick yourself up a UTI self-test kit at the drugstore, too. That will give you a good idea of what is going on and you can tell a doctor the results. I believe the Azo makes the test unreadable, so do this first.
Hope your parts feel better!

It sounds to my nurse ear like you have a urinary tract infection, just like Flowergirl suggests. I would go to a doc in the box (urgent care) or an ER to get tested TODAY. They can start you on an antibiotic to help kill the infection. The Azo Flowergirl mentions will help the symptoms get better but you NEED ANTIBIOTICS to cure this infection before it heads to your kidneys.
Additionally, drink lots of cranberry juice alternating with water. The cranberry juice makes it hard for the bacteria to stick to the bladder walls and actually helps shorten the infection if done along with antibiotic treatment.
Go today, man. No need to be miserable one more day.

00f!! Sorry to hear of this terrible experience!
Catheters are no fun. I've had one. Took forever to piss again... when I did all the nurses started cheering.

Nah. I got an endoscopy/colonscopy and came out of surgery and started to go home and just couldn't piss. So I came back and they stuck me in me in the ER.
The nurse also used the "large" size catheter when I needed "standard".
edit: Just some irritation to my my weiner tube. I know the medical terms, I am going to medical school :P and explaining it so everyone follows the first read around.

I have been taking 200mg of that stuff since I got to the ER. I know how it is.

I had a catheter for my last surgery. When they took it out, I involuntarily pissed all over the nurse. Kind of when changing a baby boy's diaper and they do the whirley bird with piss flying everywhere.. She was not nearly as amused by it as I was in my Morphine haze.

OT but funny: I used to be the nurse in the operating room who took the newborn from the obstetrician during a c section. One time I was handed a baby boy who promptly peed me from my nose all the way down to my belly button in one steady well aimed stream! wish I'd a camera!

Also OT but:
My son came out of his c-section pooping meconium all over the nurse and floor! Can't really blame him as he'd been waiting weeks and weeks to go! lol

I know just how painfull/unpleasent it can be
And i had a catheter up me peehoole just a while ago when i was admitted to hospital
And came to with a tube up my manhood and for some reason a rather bulky cotton ball stuffed up my anus
just a simple move/turn on the bed was extremely uncofomrtable
but the WORST part, came when i asked them to remove the catheter - this lady nurse came over with a nedleless-syrynge and connected it to the catheter to pull on whatever fluid was still there - it actually felt like someone lit a stream of gasoline and sucked it through my bladder and out of pee-hole while she was pulling on the plunger
then the removal part - i knew right away this was going to be painful and i told her that
she told me it would be better if i relaxed "take a deep breath" and ah god damn that hurt going out
and the next day urinating - the very first time i had to pass it stung like hell...but it got easier every time after that, thankfully
Not a nice thing at all to endure
But i'm sure kidney stones and some other renal/urethral conditions are a hell of alot more painfull
but still -damn it hurt!
