Who gets cross eyed from opioids?

I'm sure this is a fairly common side effect, but do you guys get cross eyed? Do you have any remedies for it?

I find that if you roll your eyes (like you're working out your eye muscles) side to side, up and down, around and around, back and forth a bunch of times, it fixes the crossing for a few minutes.

Or forcefully crossing my eyes, hard, and holding the tension for a few seconds, then letting go, tends to fix it as well.

I wish I could create a poll with the question "do you get opiocrosseyed?" "Yes" "No" "I can solve it by rolling my eyes around"

Maybe a friendly moderator could help me with that?

That's called nodding, different from cross eyes.

nope, I can't say its a normal side effect with any of the people I know.

I have never come across it in years of using actually.

This is from IV dope, chewing OC or eating hydro won't do it, big shots of dope are what do it to me..

Yeah i do, if i do it higher doses it is certain that i will get it..
with stronger opiates is more aparent even when doing regular awake stuff, but on methadone MT for example its only when doing boredom tasks, i even asked some docs if this was ok, if it wasnt an indicator of possible eye problems and they said all no, opiates and depressants in generall will make you cross eyed.

Yeah, I kinda get what you're talkin about - almost like seeing double when you're drunk, except it only lasts for like a second or two.

Usually, if this happens while I'm driving, I'll shake my head back and forth - kinda like a dog drying himself - and it goes away... of course in a few minutes it returns... must be really funny to other drivers who see this - I know I'd laugh if I saw someone vigorously shaking his/her head back and forth while driving.

I can fight it to a degree though, like if I'm real fucked up around people who don't know I do drugs or don't approve of it, I can force myself to keep my eyes focused. Not sure exactly how well it works, but no one has ever said anything about it - and it happens kinda often when I'm around my friends, and if they noticed it, they'd fuck with me to no end.

I also have a major problem with my eyes getting super dry... I wear contacts and it totally sucks cause they seem to fold on my eyes when I blink, making it very hard to see, and it isn't just one side, so when I'm driving and it happens, it's really difficult to keep focused on the road. I've even had them pop completely out of my eye when blinking, which really isn't fun at all, especially when driving or playing video games.

Oh well, gotta take the good with the bad - and these inconveniences are worth it to me :).

when I used to do big shots of tar, usually mixed with xanax(oral) I would get it. I never really think my eyes crossed, but they fell out of focus and I couldn't keep them centered on anything. Or they might have been crossed. I dunno-it always happened when I was absolutely obliterated, usually when my tolerance was low.

I think it is similar to nodding, or drifting off towards sleep, one's eyes tend to "go out of focus" this can be the eyes drifting towards one another, or, alternatively, they tend to drift AWAY from one another, the opposite of crossed-eyes.

With concentration, or increased alertness (coffee, adderal) the problem goes away.

With relaxation & drifting in & out of consciousness, the eyes do their own thing.

I get it so bad, especially if I am (unfortunately) driving. Its like my eyes cannot focus on anything over 6 inches from my face. It gets bad. To make it worse, my right eyelid droops like a lazy eye, and thing is that I dont' have a lazy eye when I'm sober.

My remedy? I keep having to look at something close for a second, allowing my eyes to dart back and forth and refocus. I'm glad you made this thread, Spork, now I don't feel like such a freaK!

I get cross eyed if I'm on a high enough dose, especially when looking at a computer screen. The only way I've found to get rid of it is to look at something larger, like go watch tv or something that doesn't require your eyes to focus as much.

I don't get crossed eyed, but my eyes roll up and back into my head. That is when I take an optimal dose, which doesn't happen too much anymore since I am on suboxone and getting high involves like 1 week of planning for me......

Best TH song for me has one of the most easily identifiable opening bass lines of any song I know and starts like this: Cant seem to face up to the facts. I'm tense and nervous and I cant relax. Cant sleep cause my beds on fire, dont touch me I'm a real live wire.....

Always goes through my mind if I am tossing and turning in bed going through wicked WDs.

Oh and ps- yes they will make me cross eyed and WDs will also. They give me those brain zaps that make my eyeballs jump and I will see close up out of one eye and far away out of the other.

I just used google search to find this thread again (site search engine didn't work, big surprise there:rolleyes:) because i just remembered something.

back when i was on kratom for a while, when i started using a lot of it, i started to get cockeyed, or a lazy eye or something like that, and it really effected my sight. i think it was that one eye was focused on a different distance than the other, and mostly it really effected my depth perception. I liked kratom, but it was so weird because whenever i took a heavier dose it would do that, and it actually started to scare me because it started getting really hard to see very well and i was worried it might become permanent.

i stopped simply because it was too inconvenient ordering online all the time anyway, but i think i would have stopped after a while anyway just because i really didn't like that effect.

Never got cross eyed from the dope but SWIM gets them in cold turkey withdrawal in about the 3rd or 4th day. Its really weird, his eyes go cross eyed and they start to kinda shake on him when he reads - making reading virtually impossible. Anyone else heard of this? It also happens to this girl I know. It makes the withdrawal that much worse when you can't even read to get your mind somewhere else..

not for lack of dope in me bloodstream either

why that stopped i dont know.

yeh that seems to be the "cure". Covering up one eye. I kinda do what u were talking about with rolling the eyes in different directions, and I also shake my head which usually gets me two eyes open for like another minute tops.

Its just being really really high and staying awake.

Like Thanatos it happens usually to me when reading. And once it happens you spend the rest of the night fighting it and getting a headache from straining one eye.

This was my method for solving drunkenness.....it works like a charm no matter how drunk you are. You may not be able to walk or function properly still but it definitely stops the double/triple vision aspect. This helped prevent me from yakking, which usually prevents the hangover. Sorry for de-rail, I was just glad I wasn't the only one who did this

Same experience here. If i do a big shot of OC or snort a few 80s I will be cross-eyed as fuck and have to walk around with 1 eye closed.

If I don't catch a rush the first time and keep doing more to try get it, I will just get higher and higher without realizing it until I can't see straight at all and it's fucking obnoxious. I'm otherwise mentally able to function but I just can't see a god damned thing. :mad: Mostly happens from dope or Opana, not so much OC.

When i first started abusing them daily it was my sign to others that i was tottally fucked. I would get complete full cross eyed! I would get that when i used too much, and i used too much allmost all days!

Fuck, people at the time never saw that cross-eyed from any junkie, i was number one on cross eyes...

But that was like chopstix also said that was when i shot dope! Smoking allmost never does that!

Now that i am on methadone and almost never shoot dope i almost dont get any even if i smoke more than a gram of heroin.. And when i get it its so little compared to the crosseyes i would get when i was shooting 1.5gr of dope everyday!

nod and driving is not fun, i almost killed myself 2 times cause of that.
One time it was when i was clean for about more than a year and bought a 1/2 gram of dope, started using it in the car 100kms away from home, and i allmost killed myself that time..
Another time it was almost the same but i was in another country (Spain) trying to get back to mine (Portugal) and it was 300kms and i had gaven a ride to one dealer that handled to me 2gr for the ride.. I used to much and ended up having an accident in Spain and had to return to Portugal without the cops came by... i did managed to call my car insurance and never saw any cops... Luck...

But i've learned my lesson. I never nod and drive anymore... I mean i can drive under the influence of opiates and it doesn't affect me that much, but if i do way too much and start nodding, i just dont drive, i stop the car and enjoy the nod..
