Skimmed through this article after seeing posted on the watchdog MD site, it's called
An Ounce of Gold, Ounce of Cocaine, A Trillion Dollar Deficit, and A War in Vain
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/daniel-bruno-sanz/an-ounce-of-gold-and-ounc_b_176019.html
this is the last an excerpt from the last paragraph, a pro-legalization standpoint
Quote:
Government places heavy restrictions on alcohol and tobacco and raises billions of dollars through taxation of these drugs. Half of the price of a pack of cigarettes is state sales tax. Now, as we confront unprecedented budget crisis and must make choices, it is time for the Congress and the president to get smart about how to fight all addictions. The distinction between alcohol, cocaine, nicotine and marijuana is political. All of these drugs can be terribly destructive to soundness of mind and body. The Drug Wars compound the destruction with fiscal exhaustion, street violence and mass imprisonment. When we finally get over the War on Drugs, we as a society will have compassion for those who seek to fill an inner void with opiates. When the retail price of cocaine falls below that of gold and towards zero for lack of demand, we will know that we have, at long last, won the War on Drugs.
whether or not you believe drugs should be legalized, it's a pretty good read

"When the retail price of cocaine falls below that of gold and towards zero for lack of demand, we will know that we have, at long last, won the War on Drugs."
an ounce of cocaine already costs less than an ounce of gold...at least in some areas....and lack of demand for cocaine? that will be the day, cocaine will in the future be considered more and more, as a substance that is allowable in food and candies....just look at the plethora of cocaine containing products sold openly in south america.....they put the coca leaf in nearly every food product you could think of.
if you cannot erase coca or cocaine use in its parent countries...there is little chance of talking the rest of the world into giving it up as well.
its nice to dream though...

in my perfect world i would be able to go to wal-mart and pick up an ounce of OG kush, 10g of cocaine, a bundle of H and some MDMA for "rainy days".

In any world I SHOULD be able to put anything into my body I want.
zero demand for cocaine? I'll do my part to make sure we never see that day

Sounds like this author has an unrealistic utopian view of the future. Is he actually suggesting that one day all people will be happy, there will be no voids and therefore no one will desire drugs? Right. And I have a 36 inch cock.

Right? I mean, if coke cost say $200/oz or about, $25/ball...well shit, I'd just switch out my morning coffee for a morning 8-ball.
I'd be so productive in morning it'd be great! Until the afternoon, when i can't feel my face.

well, for those addicted to cocaine...there is a bit of an alternative in the USA.
there are a few companies selling coca leaf from inside the US now. they have been for a few years at least.
not that I advocate anyone get on coca leaf....but for the person at their bottom, with little other options...it might make things a bit easier.
I think in 100 years coca leaf tea will rival camellia sinensis tea as far as global consumption is concerned.
coca leaf will be used for its potent calcium content, antioxidant and mineral/vitamin load, and of course, for the general tonic stimulant action of cocaine...not to mention altitude sickness abatement.
I cant drink coca tea too much...I found it gives me a very strange headache...probably some of the other tropanes in the leaf building up or something. too bad for me.

Really? From within the US? That's surprising. I know of one in particular in Peru that sells kilos of coca leaf for VERY cheap, but if it get's caught at customs then you could end up getting a knock from the police. I know of at least 2 people who that happened to. Coca leaf is schedule II in the US...I'm surprised that anyone here is selling it unless it's decocanized. Then again, pods are sold in the US, but coca leaf is taken more seriously for some reason.
