One of the websites I peruse has just offered this novel 'lil chem up for sale. I Nearly shit myself seeing it, Quaaludes were the one drug I've always had an interest in, but no way of evar evar getting close to acquiring.
Felt similarly when that "big news" of methyl-methaqualone hit the web, but the webs seemed to arrived at a general consensus that it sucked balls and would likely give you seizures in any highly abused amount-no go on that one-
-and now we have this new derivative, etaqualone.
Has anyone here tried it? How'd it go? Any seizures?
Yeah yeah,I should probably stop putting this drug on a pedestal like it's going to be some unique sedation, but the reports of the old sopors just sound so damned intriguing. Seems like a mixed bag of comments on bl, but that place is so huge and impersonal, I feel like I'd get better answers here.
I'd link the wiki, but all it says is it used to be in france in the 60's, used for insomnia. blurg.

Never tried it personally, but I've read a few experiences and a lot of the people say that even at higher doses they felt nothing. Then the few that said it was a good experience didn't really offer why.....
So sounds not so good, But if it is what it claims to be I can't understand how someone wouldn't get an effect from it. Maybe bunk vendors?
Good luck and if you do go through with it, let us in the know.

Maybe bunk vendors?
That's what I was thinking-sneaky sneaky chinese.
And between one guy saying it rocked and another stating no effect, it's hard to but a bill down just to gamble on some possible awesomeness, when there's legal benzos that are a gaurantee to provide some sedation/acting-a-fool-ness, at half the price.

Quaaludes were supposed to be the latest sleeping pill--along w/sopors--but hippy street lore got this myth going that they were "great," and that "girls loved them," and so we all kind of bought into it, and Rorer 714's became like gold...but just about everybody I knew, even way back then, who actually *did* them...fell right asleep...and when I started hitting drugstores, these were easily sold, but I never thought they were worth shit...Mexico, for a while had bunches of them, and people were bringing them back: mandrax or something like that...but like barbituates to me (Reds!), they were overrated...I think that idiots would have a couple beers, and eat a quaalude, and then get all excited, since they were fucked up, and the imagination is a powerful stimulant anyway....maybe the benzo crew would like them, and if you had been doing coke all night, I'm sure they were wonderful...but so is a glass of vodka....

Quaaludes hit the scene in 1971 when I went off to college. They were the latest greatest thing on my campus. I well remember Rorer 714's....INSTANT BLACKOUT IN A PILL. They were really fun for about 20-30 minutes when you were so fucked up you literally couldn't see straight. Then you slept for the rest of the night. They quickly devolved into a date rape drug, and I myself woke up in a strange bed or two back in the day.
They lost their popularity on my campus after a favorite stoner guy drove his VW bug into a lake under the influence and died. Shortly after that, I had an accidental OD on them (just chasing the high) and woke up intubated in the ER (imagine a garden hose in your trachea and another one in your stomach pumping the drug out). I was told I was very very lucky and to thank my friends for bringing me in the next time I saw them.
'Ludes lost their appeal after that.

Did LOTS of 714's. Arnar-Stone Sopors, Parest 400's, Mandrax, during the period when they were legit. (high school 71-75)...even had quacks writing scrips for them.
They never put me right to sleep, unless I wanted to. They DID, however, magically remove girls pants better than anything I saw before or since. THe only true orgies I ever attended, involved a candy dish full of Rorer or Lemmon 714's at the front door, along with and empty tray upon which one deposited one's car key....In my experience, they definitely worked for sex, big-time....
OTOH, I did lose several close friends to lude related car wrecks. People who otherwise survived many bad accidents died in wrecks on ludes. I think they were so wasted they had no time prep for impact.

ouch, glad you're okay poppy. Intubation is no joke, my voice is (seemingly) permanently altered after I had a series of od's benzos with opioids in '06.
Yeah df, benzoafficianados are certainly that, funny how I love me some benzos, but alcohol, nothanx. Just something in me that loves the specific ease of tension in the muscles, the lack of anxiety, the erasure of (over)inhibition....man.
Phenobarbital sucked-are all the barbs similar in intoxication (in your opinions)? Just sedation without relief of anxiety, zero euphoria. Even though it's a slow onset (pheno), even if it came on quickly, it'd still be a dull, anesthetic sedation.
 we all have our little things I guess.
per the 'horny inducing' effect-anything that removes inhibition gets coined as either a panty remover or a date rape drug, xanax, ghb, rorer's, and the only socially acceptable one, ALCOHOL. On that note, call me a skeptic, but I doubt there was any magic horny molecule in methaqualone, just plain ol disinhibition.
Thanks for the replies from you guys that were around during that time, us younguns can only speculate

Of all the barbiturates, phenobarbitol was the worst one as far as recreational potential. There were other barbs that had more euphoria and were more popular.
I too thought phenobarbital was about as fun as Benadryl. It sucked ass.

Etaqualone does work for a pal of mine.
Does zilch for me...
apparantly any downer tolerance, like a benzo will will have cross over tolerance. So you may build up tolerance to etaqualone's effects, but you won't for the toxic effects.
So if you need 3grams to get high, 'cos 2.5g wern't quite as strong as it was a few days ago, it might be enough to kill ya. Forget my source but'll dig it up later.

I think thats why phenobarbital is still around; it does not have the high abuse potential of alot of the other barbs; seconal, nembutal, tuinal etc. I ate 150mg of 30 year old seconals (reds) once and they were quite pleasant, euphoric boozy feeling. I could see how why people dug them.

Seconal is actually still manufacted and prescribed, much to my surprise. Found some pics with a current script on another forum-apparently they're orangey now rather than the characteristic red a generation ago knew them as.
Just saw your post and thought about it.

There was a guy on this forum awhile back, who is since opionomoed that claimed to have been prescribed seconal as well, for insomnia (of course). I wonder what a barb habit felt like? funny thing because there are probably very few barb heads around these days; probably alot like alcoholism and benzos. The ultimate habit would be like the Elvis diet; arise with 30-40 mg of dex/benz/meth amphetamine, redose till late afternoon, pop valium throughout the day, round dinnertime pound a pint of dilaudid cough syrup along with a few percodans, redose both till bedtime where you next gulp down 2-3 seconals, and maybe a tuinal, then perhaps a placidyl, wake up, repeat till you die on the toilet!

Qualudes put me right to sleep -- i was in college in early 1970's when they were popular. I never understood why anyone took them. They were euphoric for about 45 minutes before you passed out.

Seconal is still being made in the US, I happened across a couple earlier this year. They've re-formulated them so that they don't seem to go into solution very well for IV use which is what I really wanted to do with them but I had few resources and time and they weren't going in a rig. My tolerance for alky and benzos at the time meant that I didn't get much from them orally..
There were 'ludes around when I was in Art School in the early 90s in South Florida, and they were the real deal. My housemates used to call me "Captain Quaalude" cos I'd eat one and usually didn't make it through two cans of beer before I was either unconcious or in a full on blackout and about to be unconcious..
I read recently that Methaquolone use is a serious problem in South Africa where it's apparently readily available, article said they fucking SMOKE the shit on top of dirt weed - SMOKING quaaludes?? WTF??
