I've been taking trams for a little over a year, I'm up to 1000mg a day or so (20 50's). I'm running low and need to cut down anyway, I've only taken two today so far. I feel a little strange, nothing major yet. I need to work tomorrow so my question is: If I end up feeling like total shit tonight and I take a few will they work fairly quick or am I screwed?

Holy moly, 1000mgs? I hope you aren't on any SSRI's or anything like that. That is total SeriSyndrom territory, dood.
THe most I max out on is 800...

Nope, no SSRI's, I've taken 1500mg's with no ill effects , not suggesting that to anyone, it doesn't seem to bother ME though.

High doses of Trams like that can be kind of dangerous to your health, if I'm not mistaken. Tramadol withdrawal can be extremely unpleasant. In order to limit withdrawal, you should not stop taking tramadol "cold turkey." Your healthcare provider can slowly decrease your dose at a rate that helps minimize withdrawal symptoms (most healthcare providers will be more than willing to help you stop taking tramadol). Remember, withdrawal from tramadol is not necessarily a symptom of abuse, and you should not be embarrassed to ask for help in this matter.
I suggest you find some REAL opiates and then you'll feel JUST GREAT! :)

Guys, I realize the dangers of the dose, it does not need to be repeated. Maybe I need to rephrase my question: Plain and simple, If I do start feeling nasty WD symptoms is it too late to pop a few to head them off? I need to taper, that I realize, but being I take varying amounts I want to see how many I NEED to take daily without going into WD's that will stop me from doing my job, that's the reason for the large reduction. I need to see where I'm at to plan a taper. There's no reason for me to start tapering at 20 a day when it's 7:30PM and I've only taken three so far. I took one about an hour ago, was not feeling too bad but I need to get some work done as we just moved.

It is a good idea. That's what I would do, mainly to work out what my maintenance dose would be in a 24 hour period. You may have to average out over a few days.
Tram's half life is approx 5-7 hours, so you could dose 4 times a day. Then titrate down at the rate that causes you minimal stress. I think that Trams. are a misunderstood detox tool, btw ...
I've only used Trams for pain or w/d managment but because they are an SSRI, as well, I would go very slowly.
No hurry, right?
