Switching to Meth Pills from Heroin

I have been using 1-2 grams of heroin (brown powder or chunks, generally mediocre quality of late) daily for the last 16 month stretch. I just got on probation but they are not testing for methadone so i am trying to switch to meth which I can buy on the street easily. How long does it take to become addicted to meth rather than heroin? Any advice on DIY methadone taper withdrawel? I am a TOTAL wuss about w/d. I also have a BF who does not know I use drugs, let alone have a habit.

I have never used meth as a maintenance, I use buprenorphine. But from what I know is that methadone doesnt come up on a standard UA, they have to specifically search for it, so maybe its your best bet. Also meth is a tricky drug to taper with, if you dont like H w/d, then you will definitely not like meth w/d, its about twice as long as twice as hard, like I said, I have never maintained on it, but used it for like 2 weeks straight once and thought I was going to die after I stopped, A HELL OF A LOT WORSE THAN H W/D!!

If you are a wuss about WD I highly recommend that you stay away from methadone.. The methadone kick is probably one of the worst, and longest, WD you can imagine. Even a low dose (~30 mg) drop off will keep you in bad WD for a month to six weeks; whereas a H kick will only last about a week.

This might be the time to evaluate where you are in life and decide to take a break. Now, if you are not ready to (which I fully understand) and probation is an issue, maybe look into Suboxone (buperenorphine) since it's not in the standard five panel or litmus test either. -Just a thought. Not that that WD is much easier than meth, but it's a little easier to ween down your dose with bupe.

As for the original question, only you will be able to determine what is a good amount for you, but I would start (given your history) at about ~20 mg and work up over a few days till you are at a steady level; much as a clinic would. But, the higher you go before you stabalize, the worse and longer the inevitable WD will be. Remember too, meth takes a long time to reach CMax in your body, so don't take 20 mg and think you'll be ok in an hour. It takes up to 3-4 hours before you start to get releif from the meth; and it works better over time.

I don't IV anymore. I have old scars from using needles but no one seems to notice. I IM near my armpits (breasts and inner arms) or sometimes my thigh or ass and if anyone notices a bruise I balme a "rough client".

When I did IV, I used my hands and legs. Arms are too obvious, everyone knows that is where people shoot up. Hand injuries are easy to explain, so are bruised shins or knees. By the time I started working as an escort, I did not have many arm veins left anyway.

I've tried suboxone 3 times- twice by my own script, once buying it on the street. It didn't work well for me.

I did meth for 5 days once to get through the H w/d....it worked pretty well. I started at 3 wafers the first day, 2 the second, one the third and fourth day, then just a few crumbs (maybe 8 mg?) the fifth day. I had mild w/d for a few days after that but nothing aweful.

Right now, I did about 1/10 gram of H yesterday and 2 40 mg wafers. I took 2 wafers today. I have never kicked off the size of habit I have right now, I have kicked off 3 month stretchs before but this is like 16 months straight since I last kicked. Would the first 2 days still be the worst? If I don't get more meth, will I have avoided the worst of the H kick without having to kick meth too? I have a script for 30 vicodens too I could take some of those tomorrow to "taper". I also have access to clonapins and flexeril if they might help. Could probably get Xanex, valium, and I have over-the-counter codeine pills from Canada. I also have some dried pods, can I use those to kick "gently"?

sounds like you are all set. As to a meth taper, the way they used to do it, and maybe still do, is a 21 dayer. Not sure but I think dose goes up for a coupla days to 25 or 30 mg or so, stays the say same for a while, and then tapers off.

ANy longer than that is looking for trouble.

obviously the lower the better, maybe split the dose up into smaller doses so it will be easier to taper

wait until your nose starts to run, if that is the same thing as suboxone. do it too soon and you can get really really sick!
