I have recently been contacted by a company that is interested in working with opiophile.org for gathering anonymous information regarding opioid pharmaceuticals, use, abuse, that is used to supply data to both pharmaceutical companies, treatment facilitys, and consumer and student health advocates.
all I have to do is post the link to the anonymous 20 minute survey...
this would start in october, and run a month or two, until we host 500-600 individual surveys.
if we could influence that many people to take the survey somehow, then this company would give opiophile a generous donation.
this donation would pay for at least a year of opiophiles maintenance/software fees, allow for another t-shirt design, or stickers/patches to be made, and possibly be put to other use, not to mention help reimburse me for some time and energy, and also allow me to work towards possibly gaining a non profit status someday.
this company has donated money to websites like Erowid and Bluelight for hosting similiar surveys.
I am hoping that a majority of members would be willing to do this, and possibly work towards having some of their freinds and family to take the survey provided by a link through opiophile.
what this would mean, is that you could donate money essentially for no $$ down...but by spending 20-30 minutes to complete a somewhat detailed line of questions.
I think this would be a great way to both utilize funds that inevitably come from treatment centers and pharmaceutical companys, pay and support this website for a year or more, and help provide data to researchers interested in pharmaceutical opioids
500-600 surveys however is alot...its a number I think that we could reach...but it would mean that a majority of the members would need to be onboard, and we might possibly need to outsource people to complete the numbers of surveys that we need to fullfill to get the donation.
the program manager let me know that in past surveys, the number needed was usually met in one to two months.
I think it would be a great way for a majority of members that DONT donate, to be able to donate their time which in turn would be rewarded with hard cach.
and it would also take some of the heat off of the mods/admins/ and members that DO donate.
its a very small portion of members that actually pay the bills here...no more than 15% in my estimation actually support the website financially, and some of those members are donating 10% of the total amount donated in a year, BY THEMSELVES.
the only problem that I can see is people not trusting a survey, people not wanting to aid pharmaceutical companies with abuse deterrant relevant data, etc etc etc.
I think it speaks volumes that we were selected to help host this survey, and that the opiophile.org name comes up when concerning certian relevant research/data collection.
I will make more info avialable as things progress.
if it sounds like a portion of the members here would help to support this, then I will be stoked. we wont have to worry about donations or paying bills for a good time. I will be able to pay an entire year in one payment, and it makes our reliance on taking donations via electronic means, not so important.
its an interesting concept that money from pharmaceutical companies could trickle down to opiophile.
if this is an idea that is not well recieved by most members...then I think that we will need to take a real hard look at what will need to be implemented at opiophile to bring in enough money to survive/ or hopefully thrive.
right now opiophile donations have been cut dramatically since we cannot take _ay-_al payments anymore....we have 1 more month paid rent.
after that, its back to month to month survival, and we also have a looming 140 $ software fee that is coming soon...
there alone we need around 180-200$ just to see us through till sept. oct.
this survey doesnt evens start till oct. and the donation if we are successful wouldnt be paid till the survey was fullfilled....which could be as late as dec.
so we are going to need around 350$ just to keep the website going until dec. jan.
if we did meet the required amount of surveys...we wouldnt have to worry about month to month finances....
its possible that we might also be sought out for more survey options...this could become a yearly/semi yearly possibility maybe that would allow us to save opiophile donations for other projects.
we will of course still take opiophile donations via money order, and possibly some other electronic service providers, we still have plenty of t-shirts to give away with certian donations.
but even with an electronic charge service running, donations are still slow to come in....and once someone has a t-shirt...they might not want another one, until a new design is out. so far, t-shirt donations have not been enough to fund the printing of new shirts...only to help reprint in certian sizes that we have run out of.
if we can get a donation from a company like this, its possible that we could set up some harm minimization efforts of our own, and not spend all of our time just trying to pay bills...but actually have a bit of extra funds to actually get ahead.
anyway, let me know your thoughts about this, we could possibly find a way to fund opiophile in ways I never dreamed.
