cantrell won't be singing they have had a revolving door of candidates who have done sets with them, from Screaming Trees Mark Lanegan to the lead singer of Tool (can't think of his name) but somebody on another AIC board i was on said they went and saw the set in San Diego and they kicked ass, but that it was weird to hear it the singer (i'd have to dig round the net for his name, too lazy right now) was trying to sound like Layne and it was a bit creepy. as a HUGE fan i don't know what to think about it, but if i was in Europe i'd be at the concert. I always have thought Layne Staley was the coolest man on the fukking planet and although it seems wrong that they go on without him, what else are they gonna do?

Maynard's singing for Alice in Chains? Wow!
Tool is in europe touring right now too so that makes sense in a way.
From what I can see a guy named William Duvall is gonna be singing for them... Although I did find this.
One of the most influential bands to ever come out of the rock rich community of Seattle is Alice in Chains. And they’re coming to the Legendary Buffalo Chip on Friday, Aug. 11, 2006. Band members Jerry Cantrell on guitar, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney and singer William DuVall. “In many ways, Alice in Chains was the definitive heavy metal band of the early ‘90s,” according to the band’s VH-1 biography. Along with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and undgarden, Alice in Chains is one of the most successful bands from the Seattle grunge music scene.
Unlike many of their peers, Alice in Chains owed more to heavy metal than to punk or '70s rock, but the group became closely associated with grunge due to their Seattle roots, according to their Wikipedia biography. The band has been a hit-making machine starting with 1990's “Bleed the Freek” and including “Man in the Box”, “Would?”, “Rooster”, “Down in a Hole’, “Grind”, “Heaven Beside You”, “Get Born Again”, and “Fear the Voices.” MTV News and Rolling Stone have recently run stories suggesting the band’s US tour will include surprise celebritiy vocalists and performers. Rolling Stone Magazine has suggested the Velvet Revolver and Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan may appear. Guests at their 2005 Reunion concert for victims of the Tsunami Disaster included Maynard James Keenan, of Tool, Wes Scantlin of Puddle of Mudd and Ann Wilson of Heart. Alice in Chains joins a long list of rock, classic rock and country acts to play at this year’s 25th annual party at the Legendary Buffalo Chip, including Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alice Cooper, Montgomery Gentry, Gretchen Wilson, The James Gang with Joe Walsh, George Thorogood & the Delaware Destroyers and Blue Oyster Cult.
as a HUGE fan i don't know what to think about it?\

My thoughts exactly, I was awe-stricken when I first say the cover and their pics from their album.....dirt. I was literally blown away, there is nobody else like em and never will be.

i've been a fan of AiC since day one and have played most of their songs either just for practice because they are such great guitar songs.....or covered them with one of the many bands I've played with over the years.
it's frustrating what happened to layne and jerry. i'm not sure i'd go to a show....i have the music. the rest is immaterial to me.

Maynard is cool but it won't be the same without Layne Staley.
