Ok, I've got a few questions. First off, I just saw a doctor for the first time in months and because I don't have any insurance I had to pay out of pocket to see him. When I got there he pretty much just asked what I wanted -- and I was all prepared to tell him my life story. Anyways, I told him I had really bad insomnia and depression plus anxiety. I told him that I was done taking benzos (which I'm trying to get off with an anti-depressant and sleep-aid). So he prescribed me something but he wouldn't even tell me what it was! He was like what's your pharmacy, and I told him, and I was like, "So what are you giving me?" and he just said "It'll be ready for you to pick up; you'll find out then." Is that normal? Why would he do that? I can't figure it out.

So it turns out he prescribed me Cymbalta and Rozerem. Neither of which have a generic, so it would cost close to $200 for only a 1 month's supply! I was furious, what a waste of money this doctor was. So my question is:

Both websites for the drugs offer vouchers for trial versions. Should I go through down that road and hope my insurance comes through before I finish my couple week supply, or should I ask this shady doctor, who I've never seen before this, to re-prescribe something that has a generic? Keep in mind I can't afford another out-of-pocket visit. I'd have to call his office and ask if he could do that. Are they even allowed to re-prescribe and cancel old prescriptions?

What do the health professionals think? And a little insight into why he wouldn't tell me what he RX'd me would be nice because it's kind of bugging me that I can't figure out what his motive in that was. I'm thinking either he thought I was an addict and didn't want me arguing with him, or he just hadn't yet figured out what to give me and had other patients to see.

cymbalta =Generic Name: duloxetine
rozerem= "'""""""""""""; remelteon

never tried ether but the rozerem looks good
my guess why he did tell is because of past addiction. which doesnt make any of much sense anyway.bol

Well, those are the names of the chemicals. But there's no generic last time I checked (about 3 hours ago). Both are still under patent.

I didn't say anything about my past abuse, nor does he know because he's not my doctor, per say. He's just one of those doctors that accepts uninsured patients. Which means he's probably used to people just seeing him to get refills, or scripts
