Ok, I've got a few questions. First off, I just saw a doctor for the first time in months and because I don't have any insurance I had to pay out of pocket to see him. When I got there he pretty much just asked what I wanted -- and I was all prepared to tell him my life story. Anyways, I told him I had really bad insomnia and depression plus anxiety. I told him that I was done taking benzos (which I'm trying to get off with an anti-depressant and sleep-aid). So he prescribed me something but he wouldn't even tell me what it was! He was like what's your pharmacy, and I told him, and I was like, "So what are you giving me?" and he just said "It'll be ready for you to pick up; you'll find out then." Is that normal? Why would he do that? I can't figure it out.
So it turns out he prescribed me Cymbalta and Rozerem. Neither of which have a generic, so it would cost close to $200 for only a 1 month's supply! I was furious, what a waste of money this doctor was. So my question is:
Both websites for the drugs offer vouchers for trial versions. Should I go through down that road and hope my insurance comes through before I finish my couple week supply, or should I ask this shady doctor, who I've never seen before this, to re-prescribe something that has a generic? Keep in mind I can't afford another out-of-pocket visit. I'd have to call his office and ask if he could do that. Are they even allowed to re-prescribe and cancel old prescriptions?
What do the health professionals think? And a little insight into why he wouldn't tell me what he RX'd me would be nice because it's kind of bugging me that I can't figure out what his motive in that was. I'm thinking either he thought I was an addict and didn't want me arguing with him, or he just hadn't yet figured out what to give me and had other patients to see.
