I've started watching this and I like it so far.

So many people are saying she's like a female nurse version of House, but I really don't see that. Jackie is only a bitch when it's called for ... House is ALWAYS and ass. Jackie cares about patients, house doesn't (for the most part). There are plenty of other differences. The comparison is only cropping up because they both have chronic pain and are both opioid addicts.

Jackie has more of a "fuck it, I'm using my opiates" attitude than House ... she seems to be a lot less in denial about loving the buzz than house.

I wish they'd do their pharmaceutical opioid research a little better (the mistakes are minor for the most part though ... although when she snorts time release balls without crushing them, it bugs the hell out of me).

I loved when she said "Percocet should not be chewed or crushed ... that is unless you want it to hit you like a rocket..." or something like that. And how she put her oxy in sweet and low packets to put in coffee to buzz all day (although a colleague accidentally took one thinking it was actually sweet and low and got really doped up .. was funny) ... pretty crafty way to use oxy right in front of everyone. She sleeps with a pharmacist in the hospital she works at and he in return gets her lots of oxycodone and hydrocodone.

Non drug wise... I LOVED it when she said "FUCK YOU" into the asshole patient's cut off ear and then flushed the ear ... and then her nurse in training found it later because it didn't fully flush :D

Good show ... I'm gonna give this one a chance. I'm really disenchanted with how House MD is being written with regards to opioid addiction at the moment ... and even besides that the show is getting stale. Nurse Jackie is refreshing. It's on immediately after Weeds, if anyone's interested.

When she didn't crush up the time release balls it bothered me too but I think they did that for the arty camera angle. I think the show has potential for sure. I really liked in the most recent episode (3 I think) when she dropped the pill she had stashed in the sink drain and she tried to use bubble gum and a pen to fish it out of the drain.

Isn't the theme song to that JACKIE BLUE -- BY THE OZARK MOUNTAIN DAREDEVIL'S? One of the best songs by one of the best bands ever.

"She sleeps with a pharmacist in the hospital she works at and he in return gets her lots of oxycodone and hydrocodone." She sounds like a whore! No other show can compare to House. I'm going to check this out, but it just sounds like a female rip off of House imo. Btw, please don't get defensive and argue with me, because House is my all time favorite tv show, everyone knows what it's like to be a fan of something, and I will get defensive! lol, jp. I'm going to check this out though. Also, it sounds like the whole point of your post was to point out how much more you like Nurse Jackie, than House. House would tell this bitch to her face "If you want to play doctor, you should have buckled down more in school!" lol.

Eh we know her use will spiral out of control and she'll hit "rock bottom" and then we can have the redemption arc  Dramatically its just too tempting for the writers.

That's so funny. I watch all three episodes last night and I thought the same thing. All them little balls would just be falling right back out if you snorted that way. I didn't really care for the first two episodes, but the third one made me think the show has potential.

I have never seen House, so I have no comparison

I haven't seen "Nurse Jackie" yet, but, I think that House doesn't take his Vics to get high. I think that with given the opportunity he would give up opiates to be pain free.

Or am I wrong? Please elaborate totally in the hypothetical sense.

Exactly. That's why I like House. I watched the 3 episodes of Nurse Jackie last night, and the bad back thing is just pretty lame. House had an infarcted leg, that puts him in constant pain. This lady wants to get high. It's kind of a fun show, but i'm not going to really follow it. House is KING!

One of the things I can appreciate about Nurse Jackie is the hospital setting has a genuine feeling about it....whereas with House.....No hospital, anywhere operates the way his does.....all the "instant" tests, drugs, procedures....it never takes more than 5 minutes for something to be ordered, and Voila! it's being done. In the real world, patients wait hours or even days for x-rays, cat scans, MRIs,, even to get IV antibiotics started.

But with Nurse Jackie, I especially liked the part in the first episode when she forged the brain dead guy's signature on the donor card.....

My wife brought this show to my attention. It's interesting to say the least. Carmella Soprano on percs, who'd-a-thunk-it??? I wonder if her and Christopher could shoot up together in a crossover episode! :D lol

Gotta disagree about House - lamest medical show ever - I've only watched a couple episodes but the false info drives me nuts and un-informed people watch this shit and believe it.. Haven't seen nurse jackie tho, it does sound pretty funny..

I've sat there with my mother (40 year RN with a masters) watching the House and discounting shit they say left and right, with her in full agreement..

TV is truly the opiate of the masses..

bringing this thread back from the dead to let the interested know that season 3 of nurse jackie will be starting back up monday the 28th of this month.

i figured i would give it a chance and with verizon on demand they have season 2 up. so i watched the first episode of season two and loved it! i can sorta see how some could compare it to house, but this is more of a comedy. thats all i am going to say about house in this post.

i love the characters, they are all so interesting and make you want to keep watching. i love DR coop, he is the man lol. i lost a little respect when i found out he was team edwards dad from twilight, who is also a DR, but still. zoey is such a weirdo, but in a fun way. thor is awesome as well, a big tough gay man, that is addicted to cake! what else could make him anymore awesome? DR O'hara, though a bit tall is fine and i love her character, o yea, and her body and accent! jackie's husband is a pretty decent character that i feel bad for. her daughters are both funny in different ways. the one that has the problems is very interesting and i can't wait to see what happens with her in season 3. eddie is awesome in a creepy funny way. and i find it funny that jackie(MRS soprano) has a sexual relationship with eddie, who we all remember from the sopranos as the priest that had a think for her.... the administrator is so serious its funny. i can't remember his name but the male nurse that goes to NA/AA is also an interesting character because he knows a lot about jackie. last but not least...jackie! i love the character, smart, hard working, and doesn't take no shit. i have a problem with cheaters, but other then that i love her. i hope she doesn't quit her use of drugs, i think it would ruin the show.

now i agree with what was said above. everybody knows you cant snort the beads! one more thing that bothered me was the oc 80 script she was written. they thought it would be clever to have her write a 1 in front of the zero for refills, but in reality she can't get any refills on a schedule II. who are these medical advisors? they should be fired. also when she stole all them bags of so called "roxi's" from a drug dealer, they were big ass blue horse pills!

overall you just need to look past those small holes because every tv show or movie will have them. its a good comedy with drama and some action in it. my real problems are that the show is only 26-28 minutes(thats so 1990's) and they only give you 12 episodes a season. look at a show like house thats an hour(well 46 or so minutes without commercials) but they give you 21-22 episodes a year. so thats double the episode length and the season length!

either way i am looking forward to season 3. i just downloaded season 1 and watched half the season today, will finish tomorrow. i figured rather then make a new thread i would bring this one back, i am fully aware that its old! if the mods would like i would be willing to make a new thread, but see no reason to add clutter.

anyway, 28th of this month the new season starts, its a good show, i'd check it out if you have the show-time channel.

It's Showtime. Nurse Jackie is like my coke and heroin speedball! I've never done coke but anyway, I definately love the show. Yes, I must agree with everyone that snorting the time release balls is RETARDED! I thought the show was going to take a turn when she was cornered basically and while alone in the bathroom you hear "Hi I'm Jackie and I'm an addict" and the she blurts out "BLOW ME!" lol

I started into the first season a few months ago and got to about the fourth episode and didn't make it any further. It's not too bad, but then again its not good enough to waste my time on. There are just too many other good shows I'd rather watch. Really not bad though...

I never got into House MD very much because I always think of Hugh Laurie in his Bertie Wooster guise. I cannot help expecting the picture to cut onto Stephen Fry saying 'suuhhh' in that obsequious manner.

Panda: Thank you for bringing this up. Since I don't have cable right now, I had forgotten to keep an eye on when it started again. I'll be looking for the d/l's on the 29th.

haven't seen the show, but sounds to me like she's gonna end up on the good old opiophile with one of those " I've been lurking for a while and have learned alot from this site, however now I feel like more of an addict than a chipper so I'm wondering what kinda rigs would work best..." intros. Should be interesting.

i'd hope she would know how to use a needle and what kind, she is the head ER nurse  lol

house MD is like my favorite show, its up there i couldn't pick a #1. i watch entirely to much tv. we have at least 3 shows with new episodes every night. i am not that lazy i walk/jog 10 miles a day with my dog, but with the girl being sick we don't get out much.

and to add to my defense, i don't just watch BS. i watch history channel most the time, modern marvels can make an hour long tv show about dirt interesting, and they have!

Sort of a thread interruption, but I am still waiting for my favorite show to come back on (I think they said Sept): "Breaking Bad". Love it. Almost as much as I loved "The Sopranos".

nurse jacky is really entertaining, i like it... but yeah it is kind of annoying when she snorts the time release balls, but whatever... it "looks" cool.

and to the above post, Breaking Bad will be back with season 4 in july. i like that show. i was re-watching some episodes one time when i was like a week into a CT kick, and when the gf shoots Jesse up with a fat shot of H with a little tweak sprinkled in..... i started gagging.. it was weird. haha
