Will a flame destroy all bacteria on a needle. And will a wet stone sharpen a needle.

DOnt put a flame to a needle. It will weaken it and make it brittle. Find a better way to sanatize it. I.E. Alcohol, bleach, then water.
Oh and a wet stone could sharpen a needle but its a good possibility you will end up putting a burr on it (trust me) which sucks .

When I was a teenager I used to know this older guy, my drug mentor, who used the striking strip from a book of matches and a magnifying glass to sharpen old dull needles. Back then it wasn't as easy to score new rigs as it is today.
This was back in the eye-dropper rig period of my life. This guy had been around a while and taught me quite a bit. He also gave me a glass syringe and a bunch of needles specifically for it. You had to boil (sterilize) and sharpen these if you wanted to use them.
All of this led me to join the army when I got out of high school because I wasn't going to live to see twenty at the rate I was going.
WARNING: It is not smart to try sharpening a needle. Heating it will not sterilize it. It will, however, cause it to become brittle as posted above. You're much better off buying new rigs. Your veins will thank you in the long run.

The best thing for sterilizing your needles, syrynges is good ol' bleach. The bleach kills everything from blood born pathogens to virus like HIV & Hep C. I always bleached my rigs when I was using around others & I never got sick. Forget sharpening the points, they can become weak & splinter in your arm.

Nor are rubbers 100 per cent effective against sexually transmitted disease...but mixing bleach w/about 10 parts water, is still the best "cleaner" there is...My needle xchange gives out little bottles of bleach and water...and when I asked them about this very thing, they told me that no study will ever be conclusive...but bleach is the way to bet: it...but yeah, a clean needle is even more effective, or hell: "Don't IV drugs!!!..." But, if you're like me, and go w/the odds: use bleach...we aren't known for much giving a shit, and a little bleach and water handy will really help yer odds...
This bleach does not kill hep c maybe untrue. There's a report out last week that claims bleach kills 99.9% of all blood borne viruses in syringes.

For god's sake don't treat this as gospel.Always remember better safe than sorry.

I know that their is now questions regarding if bleaching will kill the Hep C virus.
I would recommend that you use a new needle or your own needle and just stay away from sharing with anyone.
If you do not have access to a needle exchange or to new needles, then I would recommend finding another way to administer your drugs.
If bleaching you really need to make sure you know the proper proceedure for bleaching needles and as Duckfeet stated most needle exchanges now give out bleach and sterile water for cleaning needles and directions on how to effectively bleach your syringes.
I myself continue to really inform clients on getting new rigs and avoid sharing at all.
Better safe than sorry and no one is 100% sure that the new info out regarding bleach killing Hep C is 100% effective!

I wanted to add that it is best not to sterilize your needle with a flame as Uncle Wiggly stated.
If you are using your own rigs there is no real need to prep your works. Using a new needle and keeping your works clean and dry is the best bet.
As to the OP, are you using someone else's needles that you share or are you using your own? I am just not clear on what you are looking for in terms of prepping your works.
Maybe you could be more specific as to why you need to know this info.
I want to make sure you get the best info!

Swim found dad's old diabetes equipment. He is not active IV user, but did not want to throw it away. But I am going to recommend he thinks a little harder about what he was thinking about.

Bleach DOES NOT kill Hep C. !!!!
Please do yourself a favor and do not use old used syringes. As the others have mentioned in this thread there is no conculsive evidence on whethee bleach kills all viruses. And DO NOT USE A FLAME to try to sterilize your needles. And please don't sharpen them with a whetstone. If you do not have access to new clean syringes you should reconsider your ROA
