promethazine??

I was prescribed promethazine for nausea yesterday. They said to take one 25mg tab every 6 hours as needed, this morning i took 2 because i didnt feel the first one (still ill) so i take the 2nd and am feeling super-strange... i know this med. causes these type of side effects.. but, am i going to be OK? Is 50mgs. too much promethazine? Please reply.

I wouldn't sweat it. I know nothing about it really... except that if medicines existed where 1 pill is fine, but 2 kills you... people are dumb, that medicine would be taken off the market sooooo fast. (I guess this isn't a very scientific argument... OC 80 compared with 2 OC 80s... but in general this is the case)

Just relax... and post in a few hours so we know you're fine... and have a glass of water + try not to sleep

50mgs of Promethazine is generally prescribed for sedation and that is what you may be feeling, it's sedative type of effects. I would suggest to wait until this evening to take another dose and if your stomach can tolerate it, some tea with caffeine may help you to wake up a bit.
I think you will be OK, but avoid taking another dose until this evening and the effects have worn off.
Are you able to keep food and liquids down without vomiting or is this just nausea?
I would also advise not to take any other meds that cause drowsiness, such as opiates, benzodiazepines, and or alcohol until these symptoms have gone away.
Stay with the dose of 25 mg and if it is not helping, call the doctor who prescribed the medication and let him know you are still experiencing nausea.
Just be careful about mixing meds....Promethazine is an antihistamine and taken with other meds it can cause respiratory depression, drop in blood pressure, and increased sedation.
Please let me know how you are doing later and as I said, be careful when taking other medications.

That may be true that few people die from an overdose of promethazine, but many of our members here take other medications that could lead to problems such as respiratory depression, altered consciousness, and a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
Mixing meds can be a dangerous problem.

The only med i am mixing it with is an antibiotic, and since they prescribed them together i feel that it is safe. The symptoms are wearing off a bit and im starting to feel better about it. Thanks for replying.

I was on this shit for months. A slight tolerance was built, but I still felt zombie-d.. The worse side effect was the "Shuffling Gait"..

i use promethazine all the time when taking pills i find it helps add to the nods your fine though i've done as much as 200 mg before and well im still here so im sure you will be alright

i use to eat promethazine all the time to before i had an opiate habit.promethazine,taken at the right doses will make you trip hard as fuck,like it gets dangerous your tripping so hard.the last time i did any was awhile back and i started off with eating about 10 of the 25 mg pills,after i started getting sleepy i drank the quarter bottle of liquid promethazine,i had fun for awhile until i decided it would be a good idea to walk down to my grandma's house for a bowl of cereal.i ate my cereal and my grandmother got up and apparently i was picking stuff up off the floor that wasn't really there and she thought i was od'ing.she called a few of my family members and got them to come over there around 3 in the morning.they also thought i was od'ing and dragged me outside,threw me in their truck and took me to the hospital.anyways i had fun until i got to the hospital(which is very scary while your tripping)and they proceeded to pump my stomach.IT WAS HORRIBLE!also,when i say it is dangerous i don't mean dangerous as in overdosing,i mean the "trip" part is so overwhelming and hard that normally you don't know where your at,what your doing or anything and it is highly possible you will hurt someone or yourself.it's not anything like acid or mescaline.nothing like that.it is a wierd trip.something funny though-apparently when i was at my grandma's house,i grabbed a bowl and asked her if that was blood coming out of it when there was really nothing there lol.sorry for such a long post i just thought yall would like to know this,and please be carefull if anyone uses promethazine recreationally as it can get out of control.

Promethazine can cause increased sedation and when taken in high doses can cause delirium, confusion, and in extreme high doses can lead to a coma.
If you or someone you know has taken too much promethazine, get them to the ER.
I myself never really liked the feeling from promethazine. In higher doses I would get that racing heart beat and hated that feeling that comes with it.

Basically I would just take one and take what ever little relief it offers.

It's actually an anti-psychotic medication (a phenothiazine like Chlorpromazine [the drug that replaced lobotomys]) that is not used as such but can actually cause psychosis, in rare cases.

Often used as a potentiator, it's also handy to mitigate some of the nastiness of withdrawal (like clonidine would, I imagine).

Promethazine is sold on the streets here in Baltimore, anywhere methadone clinic's are ( as boost both w/methadone & opiates) alotta methadone users take a cocktail of Benzos.,clonidine & phenergan(promethazine) wich has 'em walking 'round like the living dead! Very dangerous I would guess but I'm guilt of the occassional cocktail, but I'm now on suboxone instead of methadone. It's actually quite sad to see @ times cuz you'll catch 'em hunched over about to fall but neverseem too! my mom's seen me this way many times & I can admit I must have looked a mess (falling a sleep in my dinner, passing out on front porch w/ keys in hand but not ouite making it in etc. etc.) But they do come in 50 mg. so I would think you'll be o.k! you get the same effects from taking benadryl a kid i went to hs with took a shit load of benadryl he was off his face i mean i've watched my friend smoke dmt and trip and this seemed way worse because the kid was able to walk around and talk about what he was seein instead of just not moving and being awe struck

I guess it all depend's on tolerance/everyone's differ'nt, but I can/havetaken 150mg's of penergan along w/ my methadone and a few xanax bars an did not really do too much( I felt a'lil buzz, but no nodding etc,) I swear I was born w/ a toleranceto every drug I've tried, not to imply I have not been tore up @ time's but it took/take's alot more than the norm. But like I said 'round my way, downtown 25mg's go for 1$ & 50 mg's go for 2$ They boost opiate's of all kinds ( meth.,dope,oxy's,bupe's,etc.,etc.) Just be careful if ya not use to something, just take it slow. what were you prescribed them for,again?:)

promethazine is ok, it works alright as a potentiator but as an antinausea med its nothing special. promethazine, as well as other antihistamines like diphenhydramine (benadryl), dimenhydrinate (dramamine), hydroxyzine (atarax), etc. may not cut it for nausea. it works good for some people but a lot of other people find it works better in combination with other antinausea meds like cannabis, marinol, or ondansetron (zofran).

Thats funny!! :) But yeah my friend was over and i had taken 50 mgs. and drank a bit and we were having a conversation and i was like "wellll... arent you gonna get a JOB?" (she has 2 jobs!) i was pretty out of it, like forgot who i was talking to..
