i got these new sets from the philly needle exchange and they do the weirdest shit!
im a noob to IV use, but i still have never seen this before..
when the needle gets into the skin and i draw back the plunger, if i dont register is sucks back down... its like you have to pull the plunger and than hold it there until you register and than if it fills up quickly with blood it will stay there....
when i put it in water and pull the plunger back really fast to suck up water it does the same thing, so i have to hold it until it SLOWLY fills up with water....
i dont get why it does this, and is there any way to avoid this from happening?
in my limited expirence with syringes i've never seen or had this happen before/

it sucks back down cause there is no air in it. or, too little to keep pressure for the plunger to stay up. sort of like a suction cup. old needles - mostly just wear and tear makes them "sticky"...along with drug residue, bacteria, etc. etc.
to keep it from happening, when shooting, just use your fore and middle finger to keep it where you want it - when you pull back, don't let go.
same with filling it.
nasty shit to get into....i can count on one finger how many people i know of who could take it or leave it once getting that taste.....be safe.

I'm new to them myself and have the same thing happen if I don't register, it sucks back down. Just guessing, but I figured it was due to the small guage of the needle. Is this the smallest (well, highest number) guage you've used? 31g myself... can't even feel it going in, and it's a bitch to even suck up water with it.

these are 27 gauge ones... its kind of a pain...
and lotus your right... shits intense... i only sorta liked it until i did my first shot when i was sick
going from -100 to 300 in a matter of seconds can change a mans life....
im going to take subs for a couple days and let my arms heal a bit and to maybe lower my tolerence a tiddily bit....
it sucks my body is weird, i can NEVER hit the same place twice, i always have to rotate and let one spot heal for a little bit, even when i SWEAR i dont miss it even gets a little bit hard or bruised around the area....

i was a bad needle junky, and to this day i know fuk all about gauge size. whatever the clinic was handing out, or had to offer that's what i used....ask the exchange guys if they've got somthing a little bigger (or smaller?), they just might.
the injection site getting a little hard - that could be your body reacting to foreign invaders, sort of like a hive, it could be because just a little drug or blood is escaping thru the vein - some people pull back on the plunger 1/2 way thru to see if there's blood, and if not, adjust accordingly....bruises are only blood that's escaped a vein - do what the dr does, put pressure on the spot when you're done. for most that minimizes any obvious marks from forming.
not hitting the same place twice, if you're going to shoot, is the *ideal* way to go. it helps prevent scars, and keeps the vein healthier - which means it'll last a long time. hopefully.
in the beginning i was pretty faithful to rotating, then, for a million different reasons, i'd just go for the easy spots. stab 'em up, scar em up, run em down and ruin them.
the scarry thing about repeatedly hitting the same spot is as bad as it looks 'outside', it's just as bad 'inside'......all that clotted and clumped blood - i had three different (they "think") ?embolisms? because of it. i cannot recall the details, do not know the terminology (health mods?) - but, something along the lines of a hunk of that clot tearing off from shooting thru it, then they went thru my heart? or lungs?
whatever the deal is, it was bad. before i could even get the needle out i could feel the earth swallowing me up while ripping out from under me, with something sort of like pain, and the total loss of ability to breathe. two landed me in the e.r. hooked up to shit i never want to see again in my life.
i won't berate you because you're going to do what you're going to do....and outside of asking for the exact advice on drug amounts pertaining to the specifics of you, i don't think any question is too "stupid" when it comes to stuff like this. just be safe, and heed the warnings in so many of the fantastic threads on this site. people don't get on the case of new idu's to look good, they know what's waiting on the other side, and most wouldn't wish it on their worst enemy.
take care, as best you can~

I've gotten that before. It did seem like a hive - like an allergic reaction. Like a mosquito bite... or if you've ever had allergy testing, they prick your skin with a substance, and if you're allergic you may react with that sort of hive. It felt like the same sort of bump I had gotten on a test.
